An American Terror (2014)
An American Flop
I really wanted to like this movie. Based on the initial stars (7.4 at the time) I was expecting a throw-back to the vintage slasher films. What I got was a mess of choppy sequences followed by a few minutes of actual dialogue, then some weird angle nonsense. It seems like they used every scene transition from every horror movie they could get there hands on and just couldn't decide on one.
I also could have done without whatever filter they used to film this...some sort of a greenish hue was cast over everything.
One review refers to Friday the 13th, Halloween, etc... as a benchmark for this movie. This is nothing like those movies. The 'lunatic' reminds me of one of the Spy vs Spy birds from the Mad Magazine.
I'm convinced that the good reviews were given by people affiliated with the creation of this film.
The acting is not horrible, but there is no character development so you don't really care what happens to any of them. I didn't even remember which character was which..though the Mohawk fellow seemed to be the best actor of the bunch.
I've watched a lot of B horror movies and have seen quite a few decent ones and some I recommend to watch as a time waster...This does not fall into either of those categories.
I gave it two stars because I have seen worse, but not by much. Also, there was mention of awards being won for this film in another review...I don't know how true that is, but I would hate to see the other movies this was up against if that is the case.
Come Back to Me (2014)
Nope
I'm actually finishing up watching this movies as I type this. It's just not good, but I feel too vested in it to quit watching. It's already wasted an hour of my life...I might as well tough it out until the end. It really isn't as bad as some of the junk I've watched. The acting wasn't as bad as most low budget films, though the lead character tends to overact frequently and sometimes it is cringe-worthy. It is probably not worth watching, but if you do start it, it may hold your interest enough to finish. A lot of plot holes, but that's expected I guess.
Bottom line: Give it a pass.
7E (2013)
Not sure why the high rating
This was just an odd movie. There was really no established storyline. I kept hoping it would get better but it just kept getting more confusing. Everything about this film just seemed off - the plot, the cinematography, lighting, etc... It's as if they asked the crazy fellow who talks to himself on the park bench to write a story, then they made a film.
There really is no character development, nor do they explain why some of the characters fall into the story. The main character is an over-actor to say the least and reacts to situations with immediate rage...there is no build up...just anger right out of the gate.
Overall, the acting isn't horrible...it's just the story. There is no substance to this movie. I have seen worse, but this definitely ranks on the high end of that category.
I would suggest skipping this one.
Crowsnest (2012)
Switch out some characters and it could have gotten a 6
This will contain spoilers.
The characters, for the most part, are daunting. The worst character, and thankfully dies early on, is Amanda. Especially in the RV seen.
Several things just didn't make sense.
The RV just rammed them...they lost them...then decide it's a good idea to stop their vehicle so someone can puke.
She finds a signal on her phone - then immediately moves from that spot.
Shhhh...do you hear that? Let's wait until we see something before we hide.
This movie was less than creative. The acting was not terrible, in fact, it was decent...just overdone most of the time.
The ending...well, it just doesn't work.
Remnants (2013)
Trailer is better than the movie
I'm not sure what happened to my first review. So, I will write another.
I was looking forward to the release of this film and maybe I hyped myself up too much. I will start with the acting...for the most part, it was solid. In fact, I believe some of the 'newer' actors were better than the veterans.
I could have done without the parallel storyline of what the government was doing to solve this crisis. It seemed shoehorned in and I feel the only reason it was approved was that Sizemore showed an interest in the film.
The film would have been much better if they had just focused on the community and the struggles of coming together. I understand there is an original version that does not include the government storyline. I would like to see that version.
SPOILERS BELOW: I could have overlooked the inconsistencies with the uniform - but to have a 4 Star General not holding a firearm properly is unforgivable. I understand that some people will overlook these as they are not experienced as a prepper or ex-military. But, that does not make it right...the producers just need to do a small amount of research to get things right. That is what makes a good movie.
Then we have the prepper, who is a Special Forces veteran. He has been preparing for something like this for years, stockpiling food, weapons, ammunition, generator, etc... But, for some reason, establishing a perimeter and organizing guard duty are not anywhere near the top of his priority list. I can't get past this...being a prepper, these scenarios play through your mind on a daily basis and security is in the top five.
END SPOILERS Overall, I say this is a good 'eye-opening' movie. Our society has become accustomed to the many conveniences of technology and has lost the ability to function without. I would recommend this movie for this reason alone. This movie does a good job of showing that the government will not be there to help you. YOU need to prepare for the unexpected.

Old School + New School = Awesome
Not too sure why there is in depth reviews about this film. It's a Slasher Film!! And an awesome one at that. It brings back the 80's genre of horror. It's is not meant to be picked apart by over-thinkers.
If you liked ANY of the other F13's - then you will love this movie.
I'm not 100% how I feel about the running - but he did run around a bit in part 3.
My only worry with this film is they would lose the comedy - but they came through.
When was the last time you heard cheers and clapping at a movie? I heard that at least ten times.
Go now - stop reading this - move along.
Why are you still here - go get a ticket.
