The Mandalorian (2019)
Not great, but it isn't garbage.
Sadly I think the Mandalorian is overrated. The plot of the show is, yes I'll say it, simply weak. Why would a bounty hunter care for this "child"-creature anyway? Or help out other people in need. Bounty hunters kill for a living, his motivation never is explained.
Yes, it looks good, yes it sounds VERY good, it's not garbage like the last three disney-crap-movies and it's fun to watch. But it isn't great . There are great shows out there, like Breaking Bad, Mr. Robot or Game Of Thrones, but The Mandalorian is nowhere close to those shows that set up the bar.
Honestly, if the show wasn't using the Star Wars universe, no one would care for it, because it isn't good enough on its own.
It still is the second best attempt to bring life into the the Star Wars-universe by Disney, the very best was Rogue One.
I rate The Mandalorian 7 stars, because the music is great and the show is, besides its weak plot, still fun to watch.
The Night Comes for Us (2018)
Disappointing and silly
I was really looking forward to this movie since I loved The Raid, Ong Bak and John Wick. Sadly I have to say that this movie was a big let down and I'll try to explain why:
1. I was hoping to see great choreographed fight scenes and cool action moves. The movie delievers nothing special in that category. And that hurt.
2. I don't think you need a great story to make a movie enjoyable. Most action movies have a simple plot and it's working fine. But THE NIGHT COMES FOR US goes too far and replaces storytelling with a big pile of sh*t. Can't call it something else. It's pathetic.
3. Too many actors are simply bad. Can't call it something else.
4. The characters are absolute trash. Lets take that "Bike-Lady" with no name. We don't know what she wants, why she does what she does nor who she freaking is. She is just there. For no reason. Like everybody else. What the hack?
4. The gore would have been a funny aspect if this movie wouldn't take itself seriously, like every other splatterfilm. But instead we have a movie that wants to be taken seriously and that is just not working. Gore can be a nice tool, but in this piece of trash it is just used like the director was thinking: "yo lets do it even more extreme! M.O.R.E!". Teenagers might find this "cool" to watch, but its not enough to entertain me and its not enough to carry a movie.
There were also some good parts - technicaly the film is done very well and also the camera work was decent! But the bad aspects weight too heavy and made this movie unenjoyable for me.
A Nightmare on Elm Street: The Dream Child (1989)
Way better than I thought
I'll be honest with this review: I bought the complete box and watch the movies one by one. I loved the first one, I still enjoyed the second movie, the third wasn't great but watchable, the fourth was also okay, but not a "great" movie -
I thought "number five - well, it cant be a good movie, but lets see how bad it gets". And suprise - in my eyes, this was the best sequel (so far, I haven't seen part 6 and 7 yet). To be honest, I don't understand why people hate this one so much. The deaths are cruel, the effect are b.e.a.u.t.i.f.u.l. and the jokes made me smile. If you want to see a slasher-movie with great and creative kills, some cheesy oneliners and creepy scenes - dont miss it out. Give it a try. At least those points are what I was hoping to see and I dont regret one minute watching this.
Shu dan long wei (1995)
How to put this .... !
After I've seen this movie, I think some things have to be said. Lets start with the bad things:
-Franks character is horrible. I mean horrible. Every word he says is annoying, every time he is on the screen you want to rip out your eyes and feed them to your eyeless cat. This character was worse than Jar Jar Binks. And I hate Jar Jar Binks. Hearing the jokes of this character really made my brain bleed. I wanted him to die from the first minute. And this joke of a character was meant to be a reference to Jacky Chan?!?! Treating this legend who has done so much for the action-movies with that little amount of respect is frustrating and made me angry. I am still angry about this. What the hell?
-The dialogs are awful. Not just bad. They are the worst crap you have ever heard. For real.
-The loss of Jet Lis family at the beginning of the movie is just not of any interest for the character at any point of the film. That is ... weird?
-Almost all fight scenes were speeded up. It makes the action look bad sometimes, which is a pain in the ass, because the choreography was done very well and the performance is great! Sad decision though ...
Now the good things:
-Some kills just look amazing. Very nice gore-effects were used.
-The stunts are g-r-e-a-t!
-Maybe the best woman-kill-scene I've ever seen.
-DEFINITIVELY the best helicopter-scene that was ever shot by any human being. Damned, why they don't do stuff like that anymore?
-One of the most enjoyable fights in the movie was the last fight by the character Frank (who I still hate). It was absolutely not fitting to the role he was picturing, but done amazingly! Cool ideas, again an awesome performance (this time not by Jet Li) shot in a brilliant way.
I gave 6 of 10 because I LOVE action movies and I LOVE martial arts, stunts, explosions, flying bullets and dying people. Why not more? Because of Frank. THIS CHARACTER WILL HUNT ME IN MY NIGHTMARES! It seems like I'm overreacting but I am for real when I say that my ears puked into my skull. I wanted him to die so badly, I still do ...
