August Underground's Mordum (2003)
What did you expect?
If the box said "An intelligent and groundbreaking masterpiece. A psychological thriller that will leave you deep in thought for hours" then I'd understand some of the comments on this film. The director set out to make one of the most demented, sick and hard to watch films ever and unlike many who've attempted the same thing and failed miserably, he succeeded. Hollywood glamorises serial killers. They're not interesting. They're not cool. They don't leave a trail of cryptic clues leading to a final showdown with a handsome renegade cop like in Se7en. They're sick-minded, sadistic, immature, sub-human scum like they're portrayed in this movie. People saying this film is "ameteurish", "sick for the sake of being sick" and "a bunch of idiots with a video camera killing people in the sickest possible ways"- Sorry guys, it's called realism. If you tell a group of sociopathic serial killers to record a sick killing spree on video and I can't imagine it would be much different. The characters have no redeeming features at all, do you think real life serial killers have? Would you go for a pint with Jack the ripper or the Boston strangler and discuss their work? If so you'd be disappointed.
This is primarily a film which most people watch as a dare and then dare other people to watch. It isn't trying or pretending to be anything else. It genuinely pulls NO punches. If you don't like the sound of it then don't watch it or it'll make you feel ill. Most people I know had enough before the sickness even really started and neither did most of the people who've wrote negative reviews about this film on this site.
This film is not "nice" or "entertaining". It's brutal and demented but above all it's an experience. Watch it if you think you can handle it, if only to say you have. If you were sickened by "Pink Flamingoes", "Clockwork Orange", "Sweet Movie", "In A Glass Cage", "Men Behind The Sun", "Salo" etc. You'll be sickened by this more.
In Order Not to Be Here (2002)
Not even worth 1 out of 10.
This is the most talentless piece of "film" I've ever had the misfortune/stupidity to watch. For those in the UK it's basically a few minutes of helicopter footage from "police camera action" with some footage of a gas station and other various shops and streets. It's nothing. There are no redeeming features of this whatsoever. The positive reviews are stupid. The IMDb rating is stupid. If you like this you're stupid. Watching paint dry is better than this. Nothing happens, there's not even any interlectual property because nothing is original content and the footage selected is not worth watching anyway. Save yourself 45 minutes of your life and don't watch this pretentious, stupid, pointless piece of crap and watch something better like... anything apart from this.
