1923: Nothing Left to Lose (2023)
1883 is a masterpiece but 1923 is a soapy mess
The expectations were high for 1923 after the brilliant 1883.
1923 started out decently enough only to devolve into a mediocre soap opera.
The finale was underwhelming as well- what the hell happened?
Sheridan needs to focus, bring the story back to the ranch, jettison the melodramatic soap opera between Spencer and Alex, and fix Teonna's story so that it's coherent. Oh, and for the love of God, lose the kinky Whitfield plotline!.
1923 has a huge budget, big name stars, international locations for what??-it was awful.
Thank God for 1883, that's what I'll continue to watch!. 1923-Ugh, ugh!
1923: The Rule of Five Hundred (2023)
What did I just watch?...
1923 had big shoes to fill following as a sequel to the masterpiece 1883.
Unfortunately, 1923 has not been able to live up to it's predecessor. 1923 began to decline rapidly, in quality as soon as the "Alex" character made her unfortunate appearance.
The actress is simply terrible and so is the writing for her character.
The other problem is the Native American storyline which is largely incoherent, egregiously violent and meandering.
The anti-Christian bias is so over the top and vicious that it is repellent.
1923 is so bad, it's unwatchable-I'll just continue watching 1883.
1883>1923..
1923: One Ocean Closer to Destiny (2023)
1883 is filet mignon and 1923 is a Big Mac
The dime-store level romance novel that is 1923 is more or less all this show is going to be. The latest episode cemented that fact.
1883 is gritty, authentic and beautiful-everything from the production, to the writing, acting, the musical score-EVERYTHING about 1883 is so much more emotionally satisfying.
Now, with 1923, we get romantic cliches, over the top bad acting (especially from the Alex character and awful British accent) and long dragged out scenes.
A lot happens and not a damn thing moves the story along-move the story along faster folks, I'm rolling my eyes with each week!-Ugh!
1923: Ghost of Zebrina (2023)
Too much going on without anything really happening
A decent episode-good but not great. I love Elsa's narration, Mirren's performance and Brandon Sklenar as Spencer.
However, the scenes where Spencer and Alex were traveling together dragged.
Watching them walk, talk to traveling agents (lol) and look stern?-ugh. My mind wandered and I thought I miss Elsa, James, Margaret and everyone else from 1883.
I also wonder how the Spencer/Alex storyline will work after they arrive in Montana?-no time for "intense love" when there's work to be done and a ranch to save?.
Also, no time to mourn for Emma?...really?. Poor Teonna...brutal.
1883>1923, guys.
1923 (2022)
Fix these 2 Key Issues in the show, please Part I.
I think 1923 is good but not great. It is definitely not as great as 1883. Two reasons why stand out for me: Spencer and Alex and the young woman in the Catholic school.
Spencer and Alex are just not believable as a couple at all. I say this as someone who loves a traditional love stories between a man and a woman. I love a great traditional love story!-however, it works best when it feels earned!. The audience had barely gotten to know Spencer the character before he ran off with Alex (whom we don't know at all! Lol).
We NEED to get to know them first, please and thank you.
The second reason: Tianna Rainwater.
1923: War and the Turquoise Tide (2023)
Nope, 1923 is still nowhere as great as 1883...
1923 is good but, still not great. 1883 remains the superior show and curiously enough, it has to do with the ROMANCE NOVEL silliness of Spencer and Alex. It's not believable because it feels so forced-YOU MUST LOVE THIS COUPLE!!-SEE THEIR CHEMISTRY??!!. It's way too forced...like something out of an afternoon soap opera.
1883 has the perils of the Oregan trail and all the different interpersonal relationships going for it. I watch 1923 and I start missing James, Margaret, Elsa and Shea-As well as Thomas, Wade and Ennis, Sam. I watch 1923 and chuckle through the corny soap opera romance between Spencer and Alex-Who have no chemistry which is why it's being oversold.
1923: The War Has Come Home (2022)
Ok but the Africa storyline was unintentionally hilariousl lol...
1923 is a good show...not great but, it is good. However, the whole Africa storyline is something out of a romance novel. In fact, it's even more over the top, cliched filled than it should be. Hell, Danielle Steele's romance novels were grittier, lol.
I like the Spencer character but does he need to fall head over heels with the English woman HE JUST MET 48 HOURS AGO?!.
1883 is the superior show. Superior to Yellowstone and 1923 because it was gritty and I cared so much about the characters. I love Sheridan's work and watch all three Dutton dramas but would rank them as such: 1883...then Yellowstone, then 1923.
Outer Range: The Void (2022)
Awful...
Incoherent nonsense...it plays like a very long X-Files episode without the awesome Mulder/Scully duo. I can only imagine the pitch: Let's make an artsy/fartsy Yellowstone because we can't just copy Yellowstone because we don't have the talent.
So, Outer Range is what you get...
1883: Lightning Yellow Hair (2022)
Quite possibly, the best show on television!.
I love this show, look forward to it every Sunday. The acting, writing, direction, music are all top notch. Elsa and Wade (and hopefully Sam becomes a regular!) are my favorite characters in a show where ALL the characters are so well written and acted. Love Mama Bear Dutton as well!. Finally, after such a long time not liking anything on TV, Taylor Sheridan gifts us with Yellowstone and now1883!!.
1883: Boring the Devil (2022)
1883 continues to impress!
Another excellent episode... love the scenes between Shea and Elsa. So wonderful to have an actual authentic Western series back on television!. I also very much love the narration from Elsa in the series as well as the music-beautiful score!. The whole series has a Terrence Malick feel to it which I love!.
