High Resolution (2018)
Don't waste time here
This movie follows a young girl with no apparent ambition or job and her relationships, smoking and drugs. Supposed to be based on a book that I have not read. After the movie I wouldn't read it but I hope it is better than the movie. Would not recommend wasting time viewing since there are lots of really good movies out there.
Saturday Night Live: 40th Anniversary Special (2015)
Good but not great
Overall a good show, with some expected goofs for a live show. Kudos to Lorne Michaels for keeping SNL alive for 40 years and for Don Roy King for directing this show - with few exceptions. The highlights were seeing many of the former SNL greats and former hosts back for short skits. Steve Martin, Billy Crystal, Chris Rock, and many others did a good job. I'm not crazy about Miley Cyrus but her performance of Paul Simon's "50 Ways to Leave Your Lover" was great. I expected more from Eddie Murphy and Kanye West should have been replaced by a recorded skit or two from the past or the Blues Brothers since his performance wasn't worth seeing and seemed out of place for this special. Other that that bummer, the show was better than average and highly viewed but I can only rate it 7/10 compared to other specials I've seen.
The Scenesters (2009)
Don't waste your time
Very few people have reviewed this movie probably because it's not very good (no offense to those who liked it). I saw the movie on one of the premium TV channels and almost stopped after the first 15 minutes. I decided to keep watching to see if it could possibly get better, but unfortunately I wasted my time. I won't try to describe the movie, look at other reviews for that, but essentially, this looks like an attempt by film class students at making a movie. Most of it is shot with the appearance of amateur home movies. It's rated R because of language, adult content and some violence. The IMDb has placed it in the following Genre: Comedy, Crime, Mystery, and I agree. It is humorous at times, but really is more a pathetic attempt at humor most of the time. I really tried to give it the benefit of the doubt so I watched the entire film. In the end I was debating whether to give it a rating of 2, 3, or 4 on a scale of 10. I decided to be generous and give it a 3/10. It isn't the worst film I've ever seen but is certainly in the bottom 5% of the thousands of films I've seen. I would not recommend it and if you are interested in an in offbeat film to pass the time, I'd suggest the movie "11:14" which is 100 times better.
Speed 2: Cruise Control (1997)
Speed 2: Cruisin' for a Bruisin'
Speed 2 is an action film that kept my interest and wasn't nearly as bad as some reviewers have described. Sandra Bullock stars so that alone lead me to watch this move, and while this clearly isn't her best work she does a good job. I would have liked to have seen a little more humor in her role, although the early scenes with Tim Conway were funny. She and her boyfriend, an LA SWAT team member, are taking a cruise to get away from it all. In this sequel she once again picks a doomed vehicle to travel in. Willem Dafoe is a disgruntled former cruise line employee determined for revenge with his golf clubs and balls hiding bomb materials, something I've not seen before. There is plenty of action and some fine special effects. My wife and I both thought this move was well worth viewing if you like Sandra Bullock and you like action films without all the cursing that seems to come along with the newer films. All in all it is an interesting movie with a spectacular special effects finish. I rate it above average.
