GOOD VS EVIL BUT "GOOD" COMES THROUGH
I had the pleasure, as a regular IMDB contributor, to view this exciting, action packed movie on AMAZON PRIME and although slightly "far fetched" in parts, the chemistry between the two
co-stars, Sylvester Stalone(Joe), one of Hollywood's best, even at his current age and Javon Walton(Sam), himself a rising young star, is absolutely amazing. I must, however, single out JAVON whose performance was absolutely superb in this 2022 production. Stalone's credits speak for themselves but Javon has a long successful career ahead of him, albeit he has been cast in other movies. A must see movie for all.
Dragonfly Boy (2021)
The Struggle to Accept or Not To Accept A Lifestyle
I just had the pleasure of watching this EXCELLENT award-winning LGBTQ
movie whose rating(6.6/10) although appropriate, feel it deserved at least an 8/10. Kudos to the amazing cast, led by Ethan Rhoad("Graham").
Not surprised it was "award winning". The acting, writing & direction were superb. Ethan, the lead actor, carried this movie amazingly. Well. Although as viewers we sort of had an idea what his sexual orientation
was early on, it wasn't until close to the end, especially when he had feelings for and slept with "Connor", who was kicked out of his house and accused by his dad of being a disappointment & "no longer my son"
that "Graham" admitted to his close female friends that he was gay about which he struggled with all his life. In the end, the happiness he longed for was finally achieved. This movie is a MUST SEE especially for those of us, members of the LGBTQ community, who are gay about which I'm most proud.
I Am David (2003)
NOVEL ADAPTATION - A GEM WITH A TEAR JERKING ENDING
First, I totally agree with rating given but find it incomprehensible that those
reviewers - thankfully not many - who panned the movie, obviously didn't watch the same one I did. I was fortunate, as a member of PRIME VIDEO, to watch this movie tonight. This movie is a MUST SEE if for no other reason than
admiring the fine performance of UK Actor, BEN TIBBER(now 31ish) in the lead
role of David. Very few young actors can carry a movie as well as he did, evidenced by two main awards, BEST NEWCOMER, MONACO FILM FESTIVAL and MOST PROMISING ACTOR, San Diego Film Festival. Although the movie starts slowly, eventually building to a climax, the narrative/theme was crucial to understanding how important freedom is & learning to trust people given David's horrific/brutal treatment in a Bulgarian Concentration Camp and finally learning there are "good people" in the world. The performances of some of the supporting cast(i.e. Joan Plowright & Jim Caveziel) was very good. Paul Feig is to be congratulated for tackling such a serious/sensitive theme in his directorial debut. Kudos as well to those involved in the making of this movie! Although we finally learn why David was on a journey to Denmark to be re-united with his mother, from whom he was separated at the camp, the ending is very emotional so have the kleenex ready!
It's a Sin (2021)
Very Sad "Epidemic" Relived With Such Honesty & Humility - Don't Miss!
First, I had the fortunate opportunity, as a member of AMAZON PRIME, to watch this 5 part UK mini-series last night. OMG!! This is a must see production. Kudos to Channel 4 for having the courage to show it. I agree with the rating given though it should be 10. I well remember living through the AIDS epidemic which took the lives of so many people, mainly gays. Although I never lost any friends, the realistic portrayal presented, reminded me how lucky I am to be a live out gay member of the LGBTQ community here in Canada. Although graphic in nature & full of full frontal nudity, both relevant to the story arc, the series is an honest portrayal of loss, courage, humanity and tempered humour during the epidemic. The series is not only well written by Russell T Davies, as usual, but also well directed and acted. The performances of the supporting cast are commendable, especially the actress playing "Richie's" mother, Keeley Hawes. Absolutely "spot on". However, it is the performances of the 3 lead actors, especially OLLY ALEXANDER("Richie"), that must be singled out!! Outstanding is the best word I can use. The performance of OMARI DOUGLAS as the flamboyant prostitute, "Roscoe", is an absolute "tour da force" including many homorous scenes. CALLUM SCOTT HOWELLS" ("Colin") portrayal was phenominal. Congrats to Russell T Davies, the casting department, Director of Photography(DOP) and director for an amazing series and a job well done!! (robert23@shaw.ca)
Alabama Moon (2009)
Friendship and tear Jerker at its best and not to be missed
As a member of PRIME VIDEO this wonderful "hidden sleeper" was worth watching albeit with a few flaws which does not detract from the premise of the movie which has a 6.5 rating which I agree with. The writing & the acting, for the most part were quite good, except for Clint Howard(Ron's Brother) in the role of the Sheriff. Although the acting of the three main boys was good, I would be remiss if I did not single out the lead(Moon) played to perfection by Jimmy Bennett, now 23. His performance was outstanding and his ability to "carry" a movie was nothing short of perfection as he has gone on to a very successful TV/movie career since "Alabama Moon". Uriah Shelton(also a singer in his own right) in the role of KIT was very moving & sadly his death(on going medical issues) for which he was taking pills in the boy's home was very devastating for Moon ,who became his best friend while on the run in the wilderness, albeit Moon got him to a hospital in the end. The performance of Gabriel Basso(HAL) as the initial antagonist at the home was enjoyable. This
movie is a MUST SEE.
Over-the-Rhine (2020)
REDEMPTION & FORGIVENESS, EVEN IN DEATH
First, I totally disagree with the current rating of this "thoughtful & insightful" movie, which I saw on AMAZON PRIME. The writer, Mitch Teemley, is to be commended for a well written movie, including the unexpected "surprise" ending/twist. Given this is 2020, we all need to forgive, like the mother of the teen killed by an addicted driver. Her compassion toward the young 17yo driver ALEC,is the essence, to me, of the movie. As expressed so eloquently by the brother of the mother, a Pastor, God's role & faith are paramount. The performance of the lead actor(Rupert Spraul) in the role of ALEC was nothing short of phenomenal, which showed his outstanding acting skills. Hollywood casting directors, this actor is a keeper who I'm sure will have a great career.
No Letting Go (2015)
VERY PERSONAL TO ME
WOW!! OMG!! I just watched this amazing movie via AMAZON Prime. Although the movie, based on true events, was well acted, written & directed, the theme
of depression/bi polar was very personal. In 2017, at the age of 43, my gay partner(Kris), of 11 years, lost his fight with depression, anxiety & related medical issues. That being said, I agree with the overall rating achieved by the movie. Although the performances of the "younger aged" actors, were good, I would be remiss , unlike other reviewers, if I did not single out & commend the absolutely outstanding performances of Noah Silverman(Timothy at 17) and Jan Uczkowski(Kyle, older brother). As far as I'm concerned, both actors, especially Noah, were, in part, responsible for the success of this "hidden gem". I assume that in real life, the psychiatrist & special treatment home, portrayed in the movie, allowed the "real" Timothy to recover well along with the meds given
Lad: A Yorkshire Story (2013)
Have The Kleenex Ready!!
Every so often you come across a gem of a movie made outside of the USA!
Well, I sure did! I totally agree with the rating given this award winning movie. with its wonderful cinematography, outstanding performances and superb writing! Although the supporting cast, led by Alan Gibson(ranger Al), himself an award winner, is tremendous, it is the lead actor, young newcomer Bretten Lord(Tom), who carries the movie and his performance is absolutely commendable especially upon the death of his father, and his brother, Nick, joining the army. It's not surprising that Bretten won a 2013 Best Actor award at the Breckenridge Festival of Film. Sure would love to see him do more movies and British soaps! Coronation Street should be calling!!
Raw (2008)
Not To Be Missed if reruns Occur
Although this gay-themed Irish(Dublin) TV series ran for 5 seasons(2008-2013), IF..... it reappears in reruns in Canada, USA or Ireland.....don't miss it!
You will be very disappointed it you do. This series is one of the best I have ever had the pleasure to watch! Not only is the writing superb, but the acting is first rate, led by the two lead actors Aussie Damon Gameau(Geoff) and the #1 Czech actor Krystof Hadek(Pavel). The chemistry between the two is phenominal. Although their "gay" scenes are limited, they are tastefully done including the one of Pavel's full frontal nudity where they are ready to have sex. The restaurant ("RAW") subplots & the wonderful supporting cast led by Aisling O'Sullivan(owner Fiona) make this series top notch from Season 1 - 5. There are many sad & emotional episodes along the way. Congratulations to the actors & actresses, the writers, the directors and special kudos to the casting department. Damon & Krystof -What a treat to watch!!
My Brother Tom (2001)
A Wonderful Movie Not To Be Missed Because of Ben Whishaw
I completely disagree with the "negative reviews" but totally agree with the current rating. Although this movie was made 17 years' ago, I came across it
on a Gay Movies site and I'm glad I did. If it weren't for the outstanding performance of Ben Whishaw(Tom), this movie would not have succeeded as it
portrayed the sexual abuses experienced by young persons which continue to exist, sadly, today! The performance of the female lead was commendable, but it is Whishaw's performance that keeps you focused the entire time. Whishaw, with 8 wins, including Best Actor(MBT) from the 2001 Sochi(Russia) International Film Festival and Most Promising Newcomer (MBT) from the 2001 British Independent Film Award, and 15 nominations is worth watching in any movie he is in. He makes other actors better because of his performance. I have seen Whishaw in other movies and I'm glad I found him in this one. It's no wonder his career has taken off as evidenced by the filmography which includes current pre & post production.
Children are so vulnerable to sexual predators and parents & children should watch this movie!! Congrats Ben & Jenna!!
Lifted (2010)
Emotional Movie to Lift Up Spirits and Important Family Values
I completely agree with the current rating. Although this movie was made 15 years' ago, the themes presented are prevalent today. The young actor Uriah Shelton(Henry), one of the most talented actor/singers I have ever seen, is absolutely superb. His acting & singing were outstanding. Many scenes with
the dad brought tears to my eyes. The chemistry between Dash Mikok and
Uriah was amazing & a credit to the casting department. Although the performances of the supporting cast were commendable for the most part, it's the performance of Uriah Shelton(Henry) that makes this movie a must see!! Quite sure his career in Hollywood has been most successful & will no doubt continue for many years to come.

Durango (1999)
Irish eyes are definitely smiling in the end!
Even though this TV movie(1999) is predictable but very salient to the plot,
the cinematography which proudly expounds the beauty of the Irish countryside is well worth watching. The lead actor, himself "eye candy" and
gorgeous, Matt Keeslar(Mark), exhibits tremendous acting talent, a credit to
a well known casting director in Hollywood. The supporting cast, including
Dermot Martin(Jay) and Paul Ronan(Tom) & led by two of the finest experienced performers in Hollywood, Oscar winner Brenda Fricker(Best Supporting Actress, My Left Foot) as the aunt and George Hearn(Rector), who many will remember in his starring role with Angela Lansbury in Sweeney Todd, complimented Keeslar's outstanding performance including his determination to marry the love of his life, finally receiving the blessing he so desired from her father. Yes..... Irish eyes smiled in the end!!

Something Like Summer (2017)
True Gay Relationships Can Be Complicated and Emotional But Must be Treasured
Although I agree with the current overall rating, I highly disagree with most
of the reviews. I wonder what movie they watched?? True gay relationships
don't just happen overnight but take lots of hard work, understanding and
patience and sometimes your first love, as in this movie, is the best. Although the supporting cast was acceptable and not the focus of the plot, I would be remiss if I did not congratulate the casting directors for their choices for the lead actors(Grant Davis as Ben and Davi Santos as Tim). Both
performances, especially that of Davis, were outstanding given the limitations of the script. Davis has a beautiful voice and it was a joy to hear him sing as well as the actress playing Allison. Both the lead actors are gorgeous and the director deserves credit for the way the gay scenes were presented including ones with the main supporting actor Ben Baur(Jace), himself a 2017 Best Supporting Actor winner at FilmOut San Diego, and Davis. In the gay community, jealousy does exist such as was the case with Tristan Decker in the role of Bryce. His performance was integral to the final successful, though sad emotional conclusion bringing true lovers together in the end. Often our first loves are the ones that matter and are important.
Stalked at 17 (2012)
Bad Movie Saved by Experienced Lead Male Actor
For the first time, I agree with the current rating of which I gave a 7 mainly
because of the lead actor(Chuck Hittinger) in the role of Chad. I felt despite
the poor casting of Jamie Luner & Linda Purl, two of the finest actresses in Hollywood, Hittinger's performance "saved" what otherwise is weak writing and casting, especially Taylor Spreitler. Hittinger, one of the best young actors, as with "Bad Tutor", again was worth watching. His acting skills shine through and was well cast in the role, the type of which he's best suited. I always enjoy watching his movies, most of which tend to be full of suspense and thrilling! He is very capable of "carrying" any movie as a lead!!
Closet Monster (2015)
Be Proud of Who You Are Artistically and Being Gay
Finally, I agree wholeheartedly with the rating given this absolutely wonderful,
Canadian made and multi-award winning "Indie"(Independent) film including two of its actors(Jack Fulton, young Oscar and Connor Jessop, Oscar @ 18)!
With 10 wins and 7 nominations, it's no wonder, to me, this movie is one of the best movies of its genre. Though gay themed, the gay scenes, especially between Oscar and "Wilder"( admirably portrayed by Sneider) were very well done as well as the private "party" scene between Oscar and Andrew(ably portrayed by James Hawksley), a credit to the director. Often times, movies with young leads, don't always succeed. Not so in this movie! Connor Jessop who played Oscar(18) throughout most of the movie, was himself a 2016 FilmOut San Diego winner for outstanding emerging talent.
Kudos to the casting department, writer & director for such an outstanding movie. Although it is important to recognize the acting talents of the supporting cast, Jessop's superb acting skills, in large part to carry a movie like this, must not go unrecognized! This movie is a must see for LGBT youth who struggle every day with either sexual orientation(intimacy) or identification(who you are or desire to become)! This is 2018 & there are lots of support groups and more understanding & acceptance more than ever before! To parents reading this review, love your child no matter what!
The Twin (2017)
Right Wins Out in the End in This Must See Thriller
The current overall rating for this movie is absolutely an insult. Yes, the
ending is predictable but the movie itself was a joy to watch. Although
the performances of the actresses playing the mother & daughter & the actor playing the next door neighbour were commendable, it is the superb performance of Timothy Granaderos playing the twins, especially Derek the evil one and Tyler, that makes this movie a must see! Although a former model, it is his acting skills that shine through! I look forward to watching more performances by Timothy. Kudos to the casting department. Another of Hollywood's up & coming talent!!
The Lost Valentine (2011)
Tear Jerker & Emotional Roller Coaster Showing the True Meaning of Valentine's Day
WOW!! Although this wonderful TV Movie has a sad WWII basis, the themes
of unconditional love, enduring love and marital devotion permeate throughout. The dramatic performance of Betty White, a major departure from her previous comedic roles, primarily Rose("Golden Girls" and "Hot in
Cleveland") is absolutely superb! Like her character, Caroline, Betty in real life
never remarried after her husband passed away. Betty, who is in her late 90's continues to shine! The casting of Jennifer Love-Hewett(Susan), who most will remember from "Party of Five"(Fox), and Sean Faris(Lucas), is a credit to the casting department. The chemistry between the two shines through in every scene!! The writing and direction is first class. The final scene when Neil's casket is brought home to the station where Neil - so wonderfully portrayed/acted by Billy Magnussen thoughout - & Caroline said goodbye and where she returned every Valentine's Day - was so emotional, tears were running down my face as I'm sure happened for the cast. This movie is a must see one for anyone who is truly in love, on Valentine's Day.
The Bachelors (2017)
Wow! A Must See Movie But Have the Kleenex Ready at the Wonderful Ending!
Although the movie portrays the pain, anxiety & frustration when dealing with depression, there are many scenes of caring, empathy & domestic love, especially between the dad(so superbly played by J.K. Simmons, an Oscar and Golden Globe winner best known as the character Vern in the HBO prison drama OZ, the psychiatrist in Law & Order & of course as the spokesman for Farmers Insurance TV ads) and one of the best young actors today in Hollywood, Josh Wiggins in the role of Wes. Not only are the performances of these two leads absolutely outstanding but the on screen chemistry made this movie a delight to watch. I will always watch any movie that Simmons is in as well as
Josh Wiggins whom I've had the pleasure to watch previously. J.K. Simmons makes other actors with whom he performs that much better. Casting, directing & writing kudos especially with two of the main supporting cast, Jean Kelly(French teacher) & Kevin Dunn, a Hollywood character actor mainstay, as the Headmaster. I'm sure, as with others watching this movie, I can personally relate to those close to me suffering from depression. Sadly, my "partner" of 11 years, Kris, eventually lost his battle and passed away on October 13, 2017, age 43. He, like many others left behind, as depicted in this movie, would want us all to be strong, cherish happy memories & carry on with life. Yes, it's tragic when we lose the one(s) we love, such as the mother in this movie, but what's important is to "Celebrate their Life", no matter what form it takes and not dwell on their passing. Congratulations on a heartfelt movie and outstanding performances.

Jamesy Boy (2014)
True Life "Roller Coaster" With a Successful Ending. A must See for Today's Troubled Youth!
Although I disagree with most of the reviews, the movie's rating is spot on!.
Yes, licence has been taken when telling a true life story as it should be and
I'm sure that the real "Jamesy Boy"(James Burns, one of the producers), would
be proud of the "final cut" as was I. Yes... some of the "gang" scenes were drawn out but they were important to show how a young boy gets sucked in for the money and lifestyle. This is NOT a true "prison movie" such as the Shawshank Redemption. The flashbacks to "Jamesy's" incarceration and eventual redemption are vital to the plot development. The performance of the lead actor, Spencer Lofranco(Jamesy) was outstanding. Yes, another Canadian like me! Yeah! True, his so called love scenes, albeit limited by the writing, were not the strongest but they were NOT the essence of this wonderful movie! Fortunately, Spencer was surrounded by a great supporting cast led by James Wood's superb performance as the warden, Ben Rosenfield(Jamesy's inmate friend), Michael Trotter(Roco) and of course, one of the finest African-American actors, Ving Rhames.

The Ultimate Legacy (2016)
Family Support & Love Are Important but Be Prepared to Shed Tears!
I would be remiss if I did not highly disagree with the current rating(5.9) given
to this movie, an absolute joy to watch. Although the ending is a success
based on the premise outlined at the beginning, it is the acting led by one of
the best young actors of the day, Myko Olivier, in the role of Joey. He brings the same excellent performance as he did in the role of Erik in the TV movie:
"Menendez: Blood Brothers". The supporting cast, led by 4 experienced and phenomenal performers - Raquel Welsh, a 1975 Golden Globe winner and a superb international star, Brian Dennehy one of the finest actors in Hollywood and best known for West Wing, Law & Order: SVU and of course his role as Willy Loman in the 2000 TV movie, "Death of a Salesman", Lee Meriwether, Miss America 1955 & perhaps best known for her role in Barnaby Jones with the late Buddy Ebsen. Rounding out the supporting cast is one of the finest African American actors, Bill Cobbs. It goes without saying that this movie is not to be missed especially with all the star power
assembled. Kudos to the casting department. Hats off to the director and writers. Finally, listening to Beau Davison(Max) sing a beautiful song - which I assume he wrote as an established song writer- was well worth the wait.

A Time to Dance (2016)
True Love Must Be Unconditional and Forever!
Jenny Garth, one of the best actresses in Hollywood today, was superb in her
role. From the days of Beverly Hills 90210 until now, she continues to make
those around her better. Her acting generosity, again, shines in this movie.
The chemistry between her character(Abby) and Dan Payne(adult John) is a casting tour de force. Their scenes together, especially on the dock, make this movie worth watching. The rest of the supporting cast, especially Corbin Bernson(L.A. Law) as Abby's father, was very good. Although the ending was predictable, this movie is not to be missed. Congratulations to the casting department, director and writers!

A Bramble House Christmas (2017)
A Movie Not To be Missed!!
Once again, the casting department of the Hall Mark Channel comes though in flying colours. Their talent & expertise in casting young talented actors is proof in this movie. Liam Hughes, though cute, is so talented beyond his young years. His performance and especially the scenes with the character Fin(David Hayden-Jones) is outstanding. The chemistry between those two is what makes this movie not to be missed. The actress playing the mother is definitely believable but the predictable ending to the movie brings tears to ones eyes. What a wonderful Christmas movie! Well done, Hall Mark. Liam needs to be in more Hall Mark movies. He has a great career ahead of him and I look forward to seeing him in more movies.

12 Days of Giving (2017)
The True Meaning of Christmas
I just had the pleasure of watching this amazing movie which everyone should see to understand the true meaning of Christmas and making sure happiness comes with unconditional love and caring. Despite the fact that some parts of the movie are predictable, the performance by one of the newest & best child actors, Jax Connolly is superb. He is a rising star and definitely has a tremendous career ahead of him.He brought tears to my eyes and the on-screen chemistry among the three lead characters is wonderful. Every parent would love to have a son like him. The acting, writing and directing makes this movie a must watch one especially at this time of year!!

Deep Dark Canyon (2013)
Thriller and Suspenseful Action By Youngins!
After watching this wonderful movie & totally disagreeing with the current rating of 5.0, it was incumbent upon me to write this review. Yes, family matters and in the end it truly did. The father's love for his boys, two brothers, shone through from beginning to end. However, I would be remiss if I did not single out the superb acting of the two lead young actors, Nicker Eversman(Skyler) and Spencer Treat Clark(Nate), both of whom, obviously have been cast in other movies, primarily due to their performance in this movie. The viewer can't help but be riveted by their acting but their gorgeous looks & bodies, especially the one scene in the back of a truck where a shirtless young boy emerged!! Their thrilling "escape journey" along with the cinematography made this movie a treat to watch. You have NOT seen the last of Nicker & Spencer, both of whom have done some TV work. Congrats guys!!
The Wrong Child (2016)
Surprise Ending But Worth Watching
Although this movie was, for the most part predictable about half way in, but had an ending that went in a direction that made it worth watching, I want to congratulate the casting department for casting Robbie Davidson("introducing") in the role of Andrew/Owen. His performance, the best among the leads, was absolutely outstanding and worth watching. He made the role though evil & vindictive & revengeful, an acting pleasure. Though not his first acting performance, Robbie is definitely headed for a wonderful career and no doubt will have producers, directors and casting directors calling in the future. He is, without a doubt, one of the best "newcomers" in Hollywood. He is definitely on "my radar" as I look forward to watching him in more movies. Vivica A. Fox, herself a wonderful actress in her own right, was definitely miscast and I agree with previous reviewers, not the rating given, that the actor playing the father was terrible but the performance of the actress playing his stepdaughter was o.k.
