I prefer slasher-horrors,
but other horrors are great too though.
Michael Myers is my favorite killer, from the Halloween-franchise,
followed by Freddy Krueger from the Nightmare On Elm Street (NOES)-franchise, followed by Jason Voorhees from the Friday the 13th-franchise.
I enjoy watching horror movies in the dark, in my room, on the PSP.

Ju-on: Origins (2020)
Atmospheric enough to keep your attention; different enough to keep watching but not scary or creepy enough to consider it a masterpiece.
I found out in May 2020 that there would be a Ju-on TV series and I couldn't have been any more excited, I patiently waited for July to come so I could finally watch this. And I'll have to say that I expected more something along the previous films. I didn't get what I want, but that's completely fine, because at least there was atmosphere which seems to be severely lacking in horror, whether it's movies or television shows. Some scenes that were described as "disturbing" actually made me facepalm. I'm sorry, but there's nothing scary nor creepy about a wailing fetus. It's just gross, and not the good kind of gross either. I see a lot of people are misinformed about this TV series. The ignorance of some of the viewers is truly laughable and even moreso than a wailing fetus. I'm only giving it ten stars to counteract all the undeserved one stars this has been getting. My actual rating would be a 7/10. This is definitely something I will be rewatching. I'm hoping there will be a second season but I'm not sure if it was meant for just one season or if there will be any more. They can explore so many things with what's been introduced here. Let's hope for the best!
Apartment 1303 (2007)
Obvious western influences bring this movie down, thanks to the western producers
What a shame, this could have been a very solid entry in the horror genre.
The story revolves around a woman whose younger sister commits suicide after having left her maternal household to live on her own with her boyfriend and their friends in her newly acquired high rise apartment.
Seemingly unaffected by the whole ordeal and coming across as cold, she decides to delve deeper into this mystery, after having spent the night at her deceased sister's former apartment to clear out her stuff, and supernatural things started happening, such as seeing her dead sister behind the cheap nylon curtains of the now-vacant apartment.
Now, the story in itself is not bad at all. It's actually a quite solid ghost story, but unfortunately this movie had to suffer the consequences of being influenced by western minds, as 4 out of 5 producers happen to be westerners.
You can clearly tell how this movie is influenced by them, as all producers push their will onto the director: the opening credits and end credits reminded me of a typical Goosebumps episode; the type of music used during the scarier scenes being the same music used in western horror movies, and jump scares to name a few of these western influences.
If the Japanese director was left his own devices, making his own personal choices, this movie would have improved greatly. Alas, westerners, learn a lesson from this: do not meddle with Asian horror stories, and let the native people to do the telling.
A little sidenote, there was a ghost during early on in the movie that they unfortunately didn't use as the movie's main antagonist, and served only as the backbone of a made up urban legend regarding the apartment building. The reason why that is unfortunate is because the ghost was actually original and pretty freaky.
Final rating: 6.5/10 - rounded up to a 7. Had the potential to be an 8/10.
22-nenme no kokuhaku: Watashi ga satsujinhan desu (2017)
Everything the original should have been
To call Memoirs of a Murderer a remake of the 2012 South Korean "Confession of Murder," simply doesn't do this motion picture justice. For clarification, Memoirs of a Murderer is the 2017 Japanese reimagining of the 2012 original. And boy, did they succeed.
After 22 years, in 2017, the statute of limitations of a serial killer has expired. The serial killer, now an author of his self-confessional book, in which he details his crimes, tries to make profit off of his 1995 crimes. I can't say more about the plot, it's best to watch this movie knowing as little as possible. But believe you me, this movie will effortlessly hold your attention.
This movie hits all the right notes. When I started watching this, I was hoping it wouldn't be a blatant shot-for-shot remake of the original, and my prayers were answered. What we have here is the same, but extended, thrilling story minus everything that genuinely ruined the original.
I remember watching the original movie thinking how insanely clever the entire plot was. And I still think that is the case, but the way they decided to execute it in the original movie's second half, really hurt the entire movie. I'm talking about the blasphemous Hollywood-esque car chase scene. Yes, it's just one scene, but if memory serves correctly, it was long drawn, and other reviewers criticized the movie for the very same thing.
I am happy to announce that the Japanese learned a lesson from this, and thus I would like to personally applaud the writers for doing some research prior to finalizing the script, and giving the story even more depth than it originally had. I even nearly cried.
To me, this is a masterpiece.
10/10 for the reimagining, 7.5/10 for the original
Fuk sau che ji sei (2010)
Brutal revenge flick
Flicks from Hong Kong sure can be gory, as Dream Home had proved to be true. This movie clearly confirms that statement. The movie opens up with a sequence in which two pregnant women and their husbands get attacked inside of their home.
The story is told in a non-chronological order, with each new chapter featuring a black tile and a quote written on it, similar to the Ju-on movies. As the title clearly states, the story is all about revenge. The story takes turns as it progresses, as shown by the opening sequence. At first one would expect that the one who seeks revenge would be somebody who avenges the four people hurt in the opening sequences. And then we are proved wrong.
Revolving around a tragic story, revealed through flashbacks, we come to realize that our antagonist is actually our dear protagonist. This movie is nothing short of brutally violent, but not merely for the sake of it. This is not a blatant exploitation flick. There is an underlying message that is revealed at the end, one that anyone who holds a grudge could learn a thing from.
Beware, this flick is definitely not for the squeamish. There's gore, there's gut-wrenching brutality, but there is also sadness. You feel pity. This movie does it jobs by reeling you in and rooting for the protagonist. While the gore isn't over-the-top, there is one scene that involves skin that made me grab my head. For somebody who has seen a lot of over-the-top gore movies; that shouldn't have happened. But I did simply because I could relate to it through bad habits. One that I fortunately got rid of.
Go see this movie, it's criminally underrated and it deserves more attention. If you like revenge-themed movies, this one is for you. I immediately thought of Sympathy For Mr. Vengeance and I Saw the Devil.
Ju-on: Za fainaru (2015)
Repetitive for old Ju-on fans, exciting for new fans
I watched this movie last night and I have finally seen the entire Ju-on franchise. It is without a doubt the scariest horror franchise there is. There are 11 movies in total, 8 Japanese ones and 3 American ones. A 12th movie in 4D, which is a cross-over with the famous Ringu franchise, is set to be released in July in Japan.
As far as the Ju-on storyline goes, this is the first sequel to the Ju-on reboot from 2014 and it is a quite a good effort, if you look past the repetitive nature of the movies. What is clear about this movie from the first few minutes of the movie, is that this movie has a lot of jump scares as opposed to its Japanese predecessors. It has almost completely abandoned its reliance on atmosphere, but it's still there to be found. However, it doesn't exploit these moments like Western cinema does, which is a good thing.
Due to the fact that there have been so many Ju-on movies, I didn't think this movie was as scary or frightening as the other movies were. There is something called over-exposure which leads to desensitization. The scares were pretty good in this but none of them got to me, unfortunately.
Definitely avoid the trailer if possible, as a part of it shows you the last seconds of the movie. Had this not happened, the ending would've been more terrifying.
Hopefully Kayako Vs Sadako will be filled with plenty of atmosphere like the previous Ju-on movies were instead of having to rely on jump scares.
Ju-on: Owari no hajimari (2014)
Good follow-up after the somewhat disappointing 2009 movies
I watched this movie last night right after I watched Ju-on: Black Ghost (2009), which was rather disappointing. I had seen its co-installment, Ju-On: White Ghost (2009) the night before, which was better in terms of scares and atmosphere as well as being more cohesive, still, Black Ghost wasn't a bad effort.
This movie felt like a huge improvement from the previous two installments, which weren't all too bad, but they could have been scarier. I did like that they were shorter than most movies, clocking in at only 60 minutes. This one picks up the pace again that is very similar to Ju-on: The Grudge (2002).
Now, this is not a sequel to Ju-on: The Grudge 2 (2003), so there are certain reviewers incorrectly referring to this movie as Ju-on 3. This is a reboot... an American one is in the works as well. I, for one, really like the non-linear storyline and I never get bored of it. And this is coming from someone who has seen 5 Ju-on movies this week alone (sixth one will be Ju-on: The Final Curse (2015)).
The scares, or the story in general now, has been used in different variations overtime, so it has gotten pretty repetitive now up to the point where I wasn't scared but rather impressed by the changes they made in this movie (talking about the last few scenes here). The very ending was funny and pretty disturbing at the same time.
All in all, I'd recommend this movie to everyone who loves the Ju-on series, it will not be disappointing. Let's see what the sequel, Ju-on: The Final Curse has in store for us.
Ringu (1998)
I wish I saw Ringu before The Ring
I am one of those people who wished they had seen the original version before seeing the remake. I made this mistake twice now. Not anymore. Last year, around the same time, I started watching Japanese horror movies.
I watched The Grudge trilogy (2004, 2006 & 2009) before watching the 2000 movies, Ju-On: The Curse and its sequel; which I both had mistaken for the movies that was remade as The Grudge, despite the fact that certain elements were taken from The Curse; such as the jaw scene. However, luckily enough, I have a chance to make this right when I plan on watching Dark Water soon. I also watched Kairo (2001) before watching its American remake: Pulse (2006), and I'm glad I did. If you haven't seen it yet, I strongly urge you to do so.
Ringu is a quite minimalistic horror movie as a whole, which is definitely not a bad thing. In fact, it's even better. Overall, I prefer The Ring over Ringu, but there are certain elements that Ringu has that its American remake, The Ring, doesn't have. Ringu doesn't rely on jump scares as much as The Ring does. Like most Japanese horror movies that came after Ringu, it relies on its atmosphere. While the feeling of dread is surely not missed in The Ring, the combination with its cheap scare tactics is what ultimately weakens the atmosphere in comparison.
As a result of watching The Ring before Ringu, I was quite underwhelmed by the last scene of the movie. I did not feel frightened by the scene because I knew what was coming. If I hadn't seen the remake first, and thus hadn't known what would happen, this movie surely would've scared the living hell out of me. In the end, The Ring blew Ringu right out of the water. But for reasons very obvious: a bigger budget and improved technology, it is clearly the superior movie.
A 6/10 for Ringu, and an 8/10 for The Ring.
Back in the Day (2014)
Great, hilarious movie!
Believe me when I say that I am not much of a reviewer. To be honest, I have never written a review about anything... EVER. Not even for my all- time favorite records. This may get a little long-winded, but bear with me, for the sake of entertainment given to you by the one and only Michael Rosenbaum!
Let me start off by saying that it might be just a little odd to see Michael Rosenbaum with a full head of hair, especially if you were just watching another Smallville episode today, where he is still tight with a certain superhuman trying to fit in with the rest of the crowd, Clark Kent.
While I was watching the movie, I got some sort of flashback. This movie reminded me of something.. Another movie. American Pie: the Reunion, to be precisely. But do not let this stop you from watching this movie. Just because this has been done before, doesn't mean it's automatically bad.
The jokes are great, sometimes even subtle but they're good enough to let you laugh out loud, like I did. I'm not going to tell you what was funny, because I don't need to be added to the blacklist of reviewers, especially since, like I first mentioned, this is my first review here on IMDb.
It may just be a little early to call this movie "my favorite movie from 2014", but it really is. I just know it. I have a soft spot for these kind of movies.
I must be boring you out now, but let me say that the movie is at least 100 times more fun than this review.
Despite the fact that something like this has already been done (think of American Pie: the Reunion, and Grown Ups) this movie is not a cliché movie, not at all. It's a great movie that you can watch with your friends. I'd say you could watch it with your parents, but do you really want to sit uncomfortable next to them when you see some nudity on the screen? (Don't worry, it's not a lot... but just enough to not look directly into your mother's eye for at least another 30 minutes.)
I seriously recommend this movie to anyone out there. If you haven't seen it already, go check it out right now and see for yourself, that this movie truly is a great, hilarious movie!
