Fight Club (1999)
10/10
Most unexpected 10 stars.

I did not go into watching this movie thinking it would be one of my new favourite movies of all time. Considering my friend gave me a DVD rip version of it and I watched it on my laptop whilst mindlessly stalking people on Facebook. After the first five minutes, I knew it was like nothing I'd seen before. Firstly I had turned off Facebook and decided to actually pay attention instead of just watching enough of it so I could tell my friend the main plot points and Brad Pitt's best moments.

It's not what you think it's about. If you think you're about to watch a movie similar to 'Never Back Down' (2008), then you're in for some trouble. 'Fight Club' had me thinking days after it had finished and it might even be better watching it the second, third, fourth, or fiftieth time though.

To give you a quick run down it is about a character who is left unnamed (Edward Norton) and how his life is drastically changed once he meets Tyler Durdan (Brad Pitt). I would be giving away too much if I said much more, but if you enjoy the likes of David Fincher's other work or savour a psychological thriller like 'Black Swan' or 'American Psycho' definitely give 'Fight Club' a chance because I guarantee you this is better.

So it's not everyday that you watch the greatest movie of your lifetime.

I will always remember the night I watched this movie for the first time. I was 16-years-old and my dad and I were pretty bored late on a school night. So naturally I say to my father, "Dad, I think it's time to watch Shawshank". I almost regret watching it. It is that good. It's like nothing I ever see in my lifetime can ever compare to the emotional roller coaster that 'The Shawshank Redemption' takes you on.

First question I usually ask people when discussing films is, "So have you seen Shawshank?". No matter what their reply is I am happy with the outcome because if they say no, then they are yet to see the greatest movie of all time. If they say yes, I have something to talk to them about for the next 27 minutes.

You probably still won't believe me when I tell you that this is the greatest film you will ever see. It's that good that I actually told one of my friends not to watch it until she was on her deathbed. Then she will see this movie without ever having to compare anything else to it. Now when I see a movie all I think is, I've already seen the best.

Now actually getting onto maybe even reviewing this masterpiece (not that any summary of the plot could ever do it justice). So all I will say is this, I have never heard anyone give this movie a bad review. Do yourself a favour and don't even bother to finish reading this. Just go and watch it.

I wouldn't waste your money on this one.

I'm not sure if I am a bad person to review this movie because horror films never really seem to scare me but this one really didn't do it for me.

The plot lacked during the whole movie and I felt like it was trying to be "The Exorcist" for the duration of the film. The ending was also extremely abrupt and it wasn't that good kind of 'what the hell just happened?'.

In saying that, a group of girls ran out of the cinema because they were terrified so maybe it's not as bad as originally thought.

I'm glad I got to see this one for free, not the best thing I've seen in terms of the horror/thriller persuasion.

Best Comedy so far of 2012
18 March 2012
So if you like Jonah Hill and comedies with really great cameo appearances, I think you would definitely like this film.

I must admit I expected this to be at the same standard as maybe The Change-Up or The Hangover Part II which weren't terrible movies, but they weren't the funniest movies I have seen either. This movie is more on par with The Hangover (the first installment), Superbad and Anchorman.

The chemistry between Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum is brilliant, and it's nice to see Tatum in something other than his standard rom-com or "rom" setting. I was already laughing from the first scene, which is generally hard to do and the humour was the correct balance of wit and slapstick. There were actually a lot more clever jokes than I expected and there were some scenes were I couldn't even control my laughter in a full cinema.

All in all, I'm not saying this movie is for everyone but the way I would tell you to see it is if you like Jonah Hill's ridiculous dialogue with sometimes unnecessary swears and you have no expectations of it being anything like the original TV show, I would definitely recommend this one! Best comedy film I've seen at the cinema in 2012.
