Maiden Voyage (2004)
Sunk without trace
Having the In-Laws over for the weekend? Then this is the film to hasten their departure, failing that it will induce a catatonic state to bring a welcome relief from constant nagging.
The film is supposedly set on board a luxury cruise ship, which is more superannuated car ferry; the plot has more holes than the average colander and a cast dredged from the depths of the celebrity D list. An interesting piece of added amusement is playing "Spot the Villain" as passengers join the ship. You won't be wrong!!!! With a script that sinks faster than a brick, clichéd set pieces and copious amounts of raspberry jam doubling as blood this film attempts to encompass the genres of thriller, action movie and gore-fest and simultaneously fails to fulfil any of them.
A must watch film, if only to laugh at how bad it is.
The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (2002)
Dreadful Film
After being glued to the fellowship of the rings, I was looking forward to the DVD being released, yet I felt sadly disappointed. The film appeared to have no story at all and was just a sequence of fight scenes. Working on the principle that I have bought the DVD so I am going to watch it , I stuck with it to the end. As for the DVD, it is going to be a case of Ebay here you come!
Shrek 4-D (2003)
Great Ride
Shrek 4-D is a newly opened ride at Universal Studio's in Orlando Florida and I believe also Universal Hollywood.
You are taken into a room prior to entering the movie theatre and are given a brief overview of what happened in Shrek, the original movie. The attendant in the room continually threatens your with a flogging. This is fun the first time you see it, but by the third time, it is pretty tedious.
I do not normally like 3D, the effect makes me feel sick and I tend to have to keep taking my 3D glasses on and off, yet I eventually managed to sit through the whole of this ride with my glasses on. So where does 4D come into it? This is where you get squirted with water when donkey sneezes, your chair moves in time with the action and you get to feel lovely `spiders' running under your legs.
Shrek is an excellent ride, worthy of several attempts, regardless of age. However my favourite Universal ride is still MiB!
The Rock (1996)
Excellent Film
The film is about a high-ranking military officer, wishing to right injustices on behalf of his men, who takes over Alcatraz. Add in a few chemical weapons and you have the making of a good story. Nicolas Cage is then sent with Sean Connery to break into 'the Rock' & prevent the missiles being launched on an un-suspecting San Francisco. The film has moments of humour, the obligatory car chase and a happy ending. What more could you want!
