The Green Hornet (2011)
Not a super hero movie, (that's a good thing)
This is not batman, superman, or anything of that ilk. This is Seth Rogen's Green Hornet. It's an action comedy. I watched it late last night and normally when I would have fallen asleep, I found myself wide awake and laughing. Like with most movies it is important to have the right expectations. Maybe the movie was over hyped (myth busters) but if you are familiar with Seth Rogen's previous movies, I think you will have a good time with this film. Roger Ebert can suck a d***, cuz this movie was great. The relationship between Kato and Britt was as good as any buddy comedy and all the gadgets were cool.. There are a few scenes that made the movie for me. I guess those that didn't like this movie didn't have the right expectations going in. Probably one of the more enjoyably movies of Rogen's.
Limitless (2011)
Great Ending
I found the movie a nice mix. It did have some plot holes that aren't obvious enough to be distracting. It stays pretty light and doesn't delve deep into theme but at the same time touches on them enough to make you aware.
This movie could have easily turned into a dark story about drug abuse or power and human limits, but instead takes a lighter approach I found refreshing.
The ending I thought was great. Here comes this big time successful business man who has schemed to enslave Eddie and then when Eddie completely dominates him you realize this is the obvious conclusion of the film. After all if you were really that smart, no one would be a threat.
The Expendables (2010)
Blood, Blood, Guts
I like action movies, but man this reminded me more of a horror movie. What kind of entertainment is it to watch people being shredded by bullets, graphically decapitated and dismemberment? I used to love these types of movies and I know I shouldn't take it seriously but it is kind of disturbing that this how we choose to be entertained. I felt dirty like I was peaking at photos on the internet of a suicide or fatal accident. My morbid curiosity will be satisfied for a while.
I have to admit that I did enjoy it for the most part, but it was just way too much. It wasn't even campy, just grotesque. I wish the marketing would have mention that it was extremely gory.
And how is it no one died? I get the feeling the ego of the actors had something to do with it. Maybe they didn't want to miss out on a sequel.
At least Rambo had some heart. I really didn't care if any of them died or not. Another movie made for the least common denominator.
The Informers (2008)
More Shallow than the 80's
I don't know how this movie got made, it is not even a story. I kept waiting for it to start. No arc, no character development. I watch lots of movies and usually find something redeeming. Nothing here except some decent acting and cinematography. I am so surprised at some of the actors in this film that they would decided to waste their talent on a project like this. If someone could explain this film I would love to understand what it was trying to say. Maybe a warning to the youth of today that are starting to behave like those of the eighties? Or possibly it is just an exercise in acting and cinematography? I haven't seen a movie this bad since JCVD's "the quest" and that was actually better. People seriously, watching this movie is worse than being one of the character in it.
