Strictly Background (2007)
Good Film !!!
Hollywood suits should be forced to see STRICTLY BACKGROUND to understand the honor, pathos and love of craft as evidenced by the background players featured in this film. The film has humor, desperation and hope. You will grow close to these individuals through their honesty and determination. In many ways the film mirrors life. You try to find something that fits you and you do your best. But your fate is in the hands of the movie gods. They hire and fire and if you're lucky they promote you. This film is for everyone. You do not have to be a movie fan to enjoy the stories the film unfolds. As someone who has been an extra, director and producer I highly recommend STRICTLY BACKGROUND.
Moby Dick (1956)
The Best Ahab
Actor Gregory Peck felt he was totally miscast at Captain Ahab. He felt his quiet personality was at odds with the mercurial temperament of the crazy sea captain. Peck felt that the persona of John Huston was much closer to the lead character. But a funding decision had much to do with the casting of Gregory Peck, who was bankable. (as they say) Moby Dick was not a great sea story. It was a great story of Ahab's megalomania. This is why so many great minds were drawn to the character. John Barrymore, Orson Wells and John Huston were all drawn to Ahab. "I'd strike the sun if it insulted me. All of life is but a pasteboard mask. Ahab, beware of Ahab ! These quotes from Herman's Melville's masterpiece show why the writing is held in such high regard today. Thats why- to my taste Melville's classical blank verse prose is best done in MOBY DICK (1978) staring Shakespearean trained Jack Aranson in the role of the crazy wily sea captain. "And the great shroud of the sea rolls on,- as it has for 2000 years." Final words of Herman Mellville's masterpiece MOBY DICK.
The Systech Story (1971)
Public relations-case studies
Explains to executives a successful manner of dealing with the public as demonstrated by the officials of the Systech Financial Story.
CINE for Library of Congress
The Systech Story is on a permanent library card in the Library of Congress. It was put there by CINE which is a quasi-governmental film recognition organization as an example of America in action. Many of the people associated with the landmark fast- cut film went on to successful producing careers. Russ Dodson went to produce KILL THE GOLDEN GOOSE. Fred Berney produced ONCE UPON A COFFEE HOUSE. Producer/director John Robert produced Jack Aranson's MOBY DICK. James Polofof produced MIDNIGHT AUTO SUPPLY. Carol Polokof produced several features.
Moby Dick (2000)
best version of Ahab
Orson Wells is a great actor. But for my money the best AHAB is Jack Aranson's MOBY DICK (1978). As someone trained in the Old Vic, he fully captures AHAB'S humanity and madness. When AHAB says "All of life is but a pasteboard mask" , we can fully identify. MOBY DICK ( 1978) is the closest version ever made to the words of America's greatest novelist Herman Melville. As we know, the novel is really not a sea story. Its a story of one man's obsession which turns into madness. Jung stated that Moby Dick was the 1st study of the sub-conscious. To quote AHAB again " I's strike the son if it insulted me." and "Who moves this hand, if not God, talk not to to me of blasphemy."
Kill the Golden Goose (1979)
Cult Classic
In his recent film Quentin Tarantino KILL BILL pays homage to the martial art films of Run Run Shaw . Well Ed Parker is the real thing. He is one of the founders of Karate in the United State. If you are a martial arts fan this is a film you must have for your collection. Veteran stunt man and martial arts expert Russ Dodson produced this film as a labor of love to the martial action films we all enjoy !!.This film also features the Korean champion Bong Soo Han. The film is more plot heavy than the average choppy socky thriller. So if you are a Quentin Tarantino fan this DVD should also be one you need to own. Congratulations to Producer Russ Dodson for making an honest adult martial arts film that stands the test of time.Bravo!!!
Moby Dick (1978)
Acting classic
Years from now acting classes and scholars will be studying this film for its power in bringing the immortal words of Herman Melville to life. As an example of this power, you can watch this production with your eyes closed and be very moved by the blank Shakespearean poetry written by Herman Melville. Jack Aranson's CAPTAIN AHAB may be the best ever filmed. This is a DVD to own and play more than once for the insights contained in the dialogue. If you are a Herman Melville fan this film is a must own. "If we hunt not MOBY DICK, God hunt us all. I'D strike the sun if it insulted me. Talk not to me of blasphemy . Who moves this arm if not God. I'm the fate's lieutenant under orders." CAPTAIN AHAB "Ahab, beware of Ahab." Starbuck "And the great shroud of the sea rolled on as it has for thousands of years" Ishmael
