Broken Path (2008)
one of the best action movies of the last 10 years
hello everyone it has been a while since i wrote about a movie, almost two years, i think, well i seen many many many many many movies, and many more, and many more, i think you get the point, well here is another review, broken path a movie, that you should know better ( i am guessing that you love kick a$% action movies), but i will bet 10.00 or more you don't know this movie called broken path, you might think my the title that it is a western or something like that. No this movie is one of the most enjoyable action movies i have seen in a long time, and i watch a a lot of films, too many but what the heck i love them all.
back to the movie broken path, ah yes broken path, a movie that was made in the year 2008 yeah 2008 why is it now just getting a real release on DVD about a week ago in 2012, why why!!!!!!!!! why on earth we have three transformers movies, (yeah i said three or wait they are making a fourth one holy &&&&) yeah but it took 4 years to get on DVD, wow, i will get the review soon, but i needed to get this off my chest, broken path starts with a abduction of a child and moves up 20 years or so, and so we start the movie with a family having a family gathering, with Johnny Yong Bosch and Pamela Walworth as a married couple throwing a picnic for the whole family, they have a daughter, and they live in a small farm, as the party draws to a close the daughter get sent off with the other family member, and the couple have a night alone together, we soon find out that they have moved many times in the last couple of years, but why.... all of sudden the couple is attacked buy four crazy mother *******$$* with masks and knives and what to kill johnny and his wife (lovely) wife pamela, and they have to fight FIGHT i say for there lives, well that is the whole movie.
it is one of the most entertaining movies yeah i said movies i have seen in a long time, in the 90 minutes we get action drama action drama action action action action gore action gore action gore action, i think you get the point, the performances are actually good , yeah i know a action movie with good performances, yeah crazy both johnny and pamela are good and believable as a couple, and to get to the point why and i am asking very nicely is Johnny Yong Bosch not a bigger star yeah i know he got his start with power rangers but so what, he could be one of the brightest action stars if given the right material, and this one is it baby, he fights like a son of *********, and lets not forget about Dan Southworth who turns up late in game and plays johnny "friend" who tries to help him, he puts in a great physical performance, and a good performance, why these two are not better know i sure as heck don't know.
koichi sakamoto is a famous action director who first got his star doing action stunts for many 90's movies staring Gary Daniels and jeff wincott, and then came his big break with action direction of guyber 2 and then drive the great action classic with Mark Dacascos , and then he started making action direction for power rangers, well this is his masterpiece, the direction is solid but the fight direction ( which is actually almost the whole movie is really solid hong kong style solid, heck better than most of hong kong stuff in the last 10 years or so solid yeah that good) is great. the fight scenes are long takes with hard falls i mean really hard falls and what seems like also full contact blows yeah wow all respects for everyone in the film, the fights are mixture of kung fu and kickboxing and other forms, look i am not a master of martial arts but i seen more movies than more then 90% of all humans so i know my stuff, everything is just excellent, know what puts the movie over for me at least is the violence the violence's is high through the whole film, i mean everyone gets there a77 kicked 5 ways to Sunday and keep going and keep going, and keep going, but like i said what puts the movie over the top fun for me is the gore almost nearly every kill is gore and maybe not George Romero in gore it is still gory with one moment, yeah you will know the moment near the end. A- for the film and A+ for action
Contour (2006)
Wow ....Wow .....Wow....!!! Excellent Kick A@@ Hong Kong Action
The first thing i should say is why is this movie have have a better rating than 6.5 really i mean i think Transformers 2 got that rating and there is no way that this movie should get a 6.5 rating. I know if you have read my other reviews you will see that i love action movies and hong kong action movies and this movie is one of the best American made martial art action movies ever made in America (did that make sense). If you know American action movies they may contain fights that are lame or some action scenes that my cousin who is 6 could do better fights. I mean really in recent years hong kong style action have gone down in Hollywood i mean don't you remember in the late 90's when a lot of hong kong guys like jackie chan and jet li or donnie yen came over to Hollywood and gave Hollywood a good boost in talent well that lasted for about a good 5 years or maybe 7 years know Hollywood has good to back to bad action movies or just bad movie making when it comes to action movies. Well in recent years a group of martial artist have formed a group based i believe out of San Franisco that are called Stunt people. If you watch there website or seen there shorts that they made than you are getting a taste for what is to come. Contour plot is simple it stars Eric Jacobs who plays a criminal who is really bad at stealing stuff but really good at kicking the stuff out of bad guys. Eric plays the main lead as his day job is to be a taxi cab person who drive people around town well he just happens to pick up a prince and his bodyguard who are in town. That is really is all the plot you need as most of the most consist of humour and action. I know some people have talked about the humor not being funny well i beg to differ i laughed a lot well i also have a weird sense of humour but the humor is a mixture of good jokes bad jokes and a lot of slapstick humor. But really the best thing about the movie the only thing you need to know about the movie is Action. My friend this movie delivers the best action stuff that America has produced in many years i mean that. Transformers 2 or Gi joe or anything released this year or this decade has delivered anything this good. The only American action movie that i can thing that has been close in recent years are Undisputed 2 or Drive but they are not even close to this great fun movie. I know another thing about the movie that has been written is that the acting is not good ....really people acting in a American martial art movie. I mean the acting is suitable for this type of movie i mean people this movie is not trying to be Rageing Bull or Departed it is trying to be a kick the stuff out people in how many ways there is. The action is this movie is so good that it even beats a lot of hong kong movies in years to. I mean really hong kong action movies have gone down in years heck it really has not been good since 1995 but why carp. I mean the only good action left in hong kong is Donnie yen or or ....well that is about it because jackie and jet have been taking it easy in the last couple of years so the only great thing left in hong kong is donnie yen. There is also Tony Jaa i have yet to see ong bak 2 but i have heard mixed things so i will see that is and i mean really Tony does it take 5 years or so to make a movie. But back to the Contour the movie mixed different martial arts which makes the fights even more exciting there is tradition kung fu and many other types of martial arts and the way the fights are filmed are excellent. I believe Hollywood should call these guy to see if they are willing to work for them. The stunt these guys pull off here are excellent i mean the people are really getting hit and they are really taking hard fall , mad props to these guy because i know those so called Hollywood stars would not be taking falls like this. In the end this movies deserves a higher score and should have a bigger fan base heck i bought my disc at Fry's so i don't know why more people are not talking about this movie. It is a straight fun low budget action fun( i mean low budget i believe someone said the movie cost less than $5000 which if that is the case this movie deserves even more attention). Contour is the real deal my friend . Contour gets a A- (A- =A+ for action)
Riot (1996)
Low budget action fun!! Heck Yeah!!!
Hello my fellow reviewer's i am back with another fun review, Riot is one of the best low budget action movie released in the 90's back when the video market was full of movies that were sent straight to VHS (does anyone remember VHS). low budget action movies might sound crude but should not be because when it comes to kick the crap out of people and blow the stuff out of extras and stunt doubles i would say that these films deliver more action and fun than those so called Hollywood action movies. The big action studio that delivered most of the best straight to video movies were pm studio's. This studio were the king of these action movies that delivered the best action outside of the great hong kong action movies but hey who can compare to them. Not everyone one there movies were great or good but Riot is one of their best movies and one of Gary Daniels best movie's. I know if you are a gary daniels fan ( if you are not then what the heck are you waiting for jump on this band wagon) he has done some good action movies and i know in recent years he has been doing a lot horrible films. Gary Daniles stars as a ex British agent who get brought into a war zone, as a bunch of dudes kidnap his girlfriend and bring her into a city that has a riot going on. That is all the plot really is i mean who really needs more of a plot when really all we need is gary to kick the stuff out people and to shoot as many people as he can. I mean the first 20 minutes or so are for setting up the plot and to introduce us to Sugar Ray Leonard who plays Gary friend and who helps Gary on his mission. I know Sugar Ray Leonard but before you start saying REALLY watch the movie as Sugar is good in the film and there is a great scene that has Sugar Ray and Gary beating the crap out a bunch of dudes in a bar. When you really thing about it this scene did not really need to be in the movie but who am i to say no to good violence. But after this fight scene the movies is just straight a heat action which is good but wait a lot of movies have action in them, it really depends how well the action is delivered. The fights are good as you can see every move and Gary really is a true life fighter and he does deliver the goods and why the heck he never became a bigger action hero is beyond me. I mean he has the martial art skills and his acting is better than Van damme and Segal both put together and his movies are altogether are more better than both those guy's so called action movies. Another plus is that near the end of the movie we are introduced to the main villain who is no other than Sandman from Van Damme's Death Warrent who really good as being a evil dude the only thing i wished is that he had a bigger fight scene with Gary.In th end the films delivers all you wish in a action movie a lot of action both fights and shoot outs and a fair plot and just pure fun energy. Riot gets a B (for low budget action kick A@@ fun!! Heck Yeah!!!!)
Undisputed II: Last Man Standing (2006)
Why did this movie not make it to the theatres?? No really why??
Undisputed 2 could be one of the best action movies that you never seen. I mean really people if you never saw the first undisputed would you really even know what the heck undisputed 2 was about. Undisputed 2 never made it to theatres and the reason is beyond me (really why on earth did this movie never make it to theatres,I mean really how many saw films and other horrible movies do we need out there) maybe because there is no big actors and the director is not really well known and so the movie was sent to Direct to Video and what a shame. Let's talk about what I just said I mean Micheal J White is not really a well known actor but he did come in a lot of movies I mean he in Universal Soldiger 2 and he was in Exit Wounds and he also was in Spawn but I don't think Hollywood ever really known what to do with him. Micheal is a excellent martial artist and he is a OK actor, I mean he sure is a best action star than those Van Damme and Segal guys and he should be better known. The other actor is the really unknown actor is Scott Adkins, who really should be better known. I mean a lot of kung fu movie fans will know you this guy is I mean he was in Unleashed with Jet Li in a bit part and he was also in Medallion with Jackie Chan I mean he was also in a lot of other action movies. Scott Adkins is really a excellent fighter and he does have the look and the acting chops to be the next big thing, I mean really there is not really a big action star out there in the USA, I mean Jackie and Jet are getting older and Van Damme and Segal are other there making some movies somewhere and there is Jason Statham who other making some action movies. But Scott Adkins needs to noticed and some producer needs to get him some work. The plot deals with Micheal J White character plays George Chambers a ex champion boxer( George Chambers was played by Ving Rhames in the original) who is in other country down on his luck making cheap commercials and going know where in his life and gets convicted of a crime and goes to jail( wow what a day). In jail he see's that there is a underground figting ring and soon enough he has to do battle with Scott Adkins. Scott Adkins plays Yuri Boyka a Russian mix martial artist fighter who is the champion of the underground fighting ring and soon enough George and Yuri will have to do battle. But first George has to learn how to fight because he is a boxer and he has to learn mix martial arts so he gets fight lesson from Crot ( Played nicely by Eli Danker) who teaches him the way to fight. I mean that is all about the plot, I mean really when the movie is called Undisupted 2 do really need the plot to be air tight no but what makes the movie different than your usual direct to video action movies is that the plot try's to have a plot with a little bit of heart and little bit of emotion which actually make's the movie above the norm. But the biggest selling point of a action movie is of course the ACTION and boy my friend do we get the action and action and did i say there was action. Isaac Florentine makes sure the action is shot well and we see all the fights in all their glory and the movie mixes good martial arts and boxing and just good direction (the fight choreographer is J.J. 'Loco' Perry who really delivers the goods so much that it compares to some hong kong movies which you know it means it must be good) and the fights are kinda short but boy do they deliver the goods. On my last point why is this director Issac Florentine not better known, I mean i know this director and i know that all his films are lower budget than Hollywood movies are and maybe they suffer from some acting problems and some other issues but they deliver the good with great martial arts and gun battles and Issac is one of the only director in Hollywood that knows how to shoot action ( no camera just jumping around YOU HEAR THAT Micheal BAY). I hope his next movie which looks freaking awesome will be great and it also stars Scott Adkins which should if all things go right could be his big break through. On final point go watch Undisputed 2 because it is one of the best diect to video movies ever and really this movie should have been in theatres and not that so called movie which is called i think Transformers 2 (i mean really the make up budget for Megan Fox on Transformers 2 probably costed more money than the whole budget of Undisputed 2) Undisputed 2 get a B+ or A- So there Thank You
Double Team (1997)
Van Damme +Tsui Hark +Dennis Rodman=What ?? Really??
Look before i start my review lets be honest about this movie, the movie is dumb and really does not make sense really a movie with Van Damme and Dennis Rodman really what do you expect. But lets also be clear this movie could be a lot of fun viewed in the right light and could almost be considered a really fun piece of garbage. Van Damme starts as a agent who is after Mickey Rourke (really Mickey really) while after Mickey, Mickey wife and child gets killed and now Mickey is really bad and spends the whole film trying to kill Van Damme. Van Damme needs help and so he enlist the help of Dennis Rodman(what did the Chicago Bulls cut him from the roster) who is a gun dealer. Well that is all the plot you really need, I mean what i just described could be action gold, not really i mean there is a lot of plot holes and a lot of scenes that just don't make sense. And now i come to the great director Tsui Hark ( i know if you just seen this film and his other movie starting Van Damme Knock Off you could be asking yourself "great director my ---") the director who gave us Once upon a time in china 1,2,3,4,5 and Pecking Opera Blues and other great hong kong movies. But this movie is not even in the same area code to these great movies but he does direct the film for all he's worth and does keep the movie flowing at a great pace and does give us a lot of action and Tsui at least make Van Damme look good as he enlist the great Sammo Hung to do the fights(lets be clear that the stuntman does most of the action for Van Damme) and Tsui Hark even got the great Peter Pau to shoot the film. Yes Peter Pau who went on to win a Oscar a couple years later for shooting Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. In the end all i could say is that you could find worse movies starting Van Damme (there is too many to count) and you could find better like Hard Target,Timecop,or maybe Sudden Death. Double Team get a C+. So there Thank You.
Halloween II (2009)
Halloween was a masterpiece, wait we are not talking about John Carpenter's Halloween are we?
My friend told me(don't know if it is true)before i watched the movie, that Rob Zombie did not want to make a sequel and that he made it to satisfy the studio and get paid. Well i hope the money was good because he can give me a few dollars for what i just saw. Lets be clear i was never the biggest fan of the remake i know that some people loved it and some thought it was garbage. I was in the middle, i mean we did not need a remake but at least it was trying to bring something new and at least it was midley entertaining. I was looking forward to see what could Rob Zombie bring to the table for the sequel and see he is directing was improving, because lets be real house of a 1000 courpes was garbage and devil's regect was surprising good (acutally it was darn good) and the remake of Halloween was so-so, but what in the world happened here. Where should i start with the screenplay or with the filming of the action or where i could not see what the heck was going on. First the screenplay was no good, i mean really did we need Rob Zombie wife to come back into the movie again at Micheal mother really i mean i know she needs a paycheck but really did rob zombie feel the need to write here a part for her to get paid. Oh yeah that comes to the other part of the script what in the world is all the flashbacks or hallcunations of Micheal, i mean i know rob zombie was trying to give Micheal some meaning to the killings and try to get into Micheal's head and i guess to give him some emotion. Rob zombie script also has more F bombs than a Quentin Tarantino movie, i mean really does a f word need to be said every second. ( i am not against language in a movie). The acting was another problem ( i know it is a horror movie i am not expecting no Oscar work here) really what in the all that is holy is Malcolm McDowell doing in this movie and what acting class did he go to because i want to sign up. I mean i like Malcolm McDowell in other roles and yes he does have a tendency to go over the top but really i mean i seen better acting in a Segal flick. Speaking about Segal flicks who the heck shot this movie, i mean i have seen better photograph in a sci fi channel movie. I mean even the day time scenes seemed dark and don't even get me talking about the murder scenes i could not even tell what the heck was going on (people that know me know that i hate camera shaking, i mean if you ain't filming a war movie don't shake the darn camera). And the ending oh the ending i won't give anything away but really, really mr rob zombie what the......Look people i am a horror movie fan i love all good slasher movies and heck i own a lot of bad slasher movies ( come to think about it i own more slasher movies than action movies, what happen to my taste in movies) that are fun heck one of my favorite bad slasher movies is jason x. Yes i said jason x it was total garbage but it was sure fun garbage, sadly Halloween 2 does even get to that level, which means you know it's bad, and i thought summer movies could not get more worse than Transformers 2 ( lets be clear transformers 2 is the worse movie of the year). Halloween 2 get's a F. Thank You
Hard Target (1993)
Hard Target could be the best action movie of the 90's
Look i know people have said that John Woo's first American movie is a little uneven it has also been called a "B" movie it has also been called a Van Damme movie. Lets get one thing out of the way this is a John Woo movie OK. I know it is not Bullet in the Head or Hard Boiled or the Killer i think you get the point. The thing that makes hard target so awesome is that it is truly is a john woo movie ( i hope that you seen the unrated movie). Johh woo directs this movie as if it is one of his hong kong movies, yes i know Van Damme is the star but let's give Van Damme some credit this is his best movie that he has done, no Street Fighter and Universal Soldier 2 or Derailed or... i think i made my point. Van Damme is good in the role and yes he does wear what is maybe one of the worst haircuts in action movie history but he does at least try to act i think that he is trying to do. Yes the movie is a B film but then hey is not Darkman is not True Lies,(really a great action movie but really what in the world is up with that plot) John Woo turns the B story into the film's favor almost giving it a Sergio Leone like feel to it and directing each scene like if it is one of his hong kong movies. The Camera is always on the move the action scene's are directed with care (no Micheal Bay shaking camera work here thank you very much) and the movie is a little slow after the start but really kicks high gear in the movie last hour which is wall to wall violence and bloodshed( which really is not a bad thing). Oh yeah another great thing or not really is the Yancy Butler who really adds nothing to movie but look sad or upset or what ever she trying to do but hey john woo has never truly been a great women director just like sam Peckinpah never was, this is a guy movie and on that note it must be said that Lance Henriksen and Arnold Vosloo who turn such awesome performance's that they are clearly having fun and it seems that they knew that they were filming a john woo movie not a van damme movie.I know that john woo had a budget of around 15 million dollars and woo makes the full use of it. On final note i did say that hard target is or could be the best action movie on the 90's before you people say what the, i know woo directed hard boiled about a year before and that he did face off about 4 years later, but common Hard Boiled is one of the greatest action movies of all time and Face Off is a great movie not just a action movie.Hard Target B+. So there Thank You.
