great story, great performances

Warning: Spoilers
I found this movie really interesting, it shows the life of three 12 year old kids with great sincerity, the three kids are great and Jeremy Renner performance is outstanding. I would say this movie could become a classic in the future. Hope to see more kids movies like this, although you don't find a great story and great acting usually together in this kind of movies. I highly recommend it. I would like to say something about the end: when the kid kills his brother's "killer", it was a big shock, I think the kid improvised everything, he wasn't planning it for a long time. I found this a really original part of the script.

great atmosphere, great actors
11 January 2007
In my opinion, the most amazing film of the year.

Del Toro proves to be a great storyteller, and you can see he is a comic book fan.

Sergi Lopez, Maribel Verdu and Ivana Baquero are amazing in their roles, and it's very interesting to see the approach of history that Del Toro has about the Maquis, the losers of the Spanish Civil War and that they never wanted to accept a horrible dictator such as Franco. It was a shame they were not successful, and we had to put up with Franco until 1975.

So, for me, the movie represents a great tribute of these heroes.

Thank you, Guillermo Del Toro.

great movie, great acting

Warning: Spoilers
I just saw the movie tonight at Club Coliseum in Barcelona, and it was fantastic to see how people resisted the dictatorship until the end of Franco's days.

If it wouldn't be for people like Salvador Puig Antich, we wouldn't have democracy until 10 years later, I think he was a real hero that fought for democracy.

The last scene of Salvador Puig dying in "El Garrote Vil" is very hard, I cant believe it happened in my country in 1974. Daniel Brühl is a great actor, like he demonstrated in Good Bye Lenin, I think that being trilingual helps him a lot.

Go and see this movie now.

better read the books
18 August 2006
I think this movie couldn't be better, but the problem with Bukowski is how to make a movie out of his life, that is, his books. It is very hard to make a good film out of a Bukowski story. I think the film was OK, Matt Dillon characterization is great, even though I had preferred an older actor (Chris Cooper, Robert Duvall). The rest of the actors were fine too. I think anyways that taking Bukowski to the screen is pointless, I think you can only enjoy him in his books. The only good thing about this movie is that maybe it will take some new readers to Bukowski. It was short (at least here in Europe, I don't know how it will be edit in the USA), and I think that was intelligent. It was a good recreation of Bukowski atmosphere, so I rate this movie with a 6, and I think I'm being too generous.
