Certain Women (2016)
2 hours you can't get back.
When I saw high reviews for this, my wife & I settled in to be entertained. So we waited, and waited...being from a small town I thought perhaps I could relate. Not many people will "get this" movie. Follow 3 small town people around for a day or two. Exciting? Not at all. Something's gotta happen soon!.....end credits. Pretty much every day life for some of us, nothing exciting, as much drama as watching the neighbor let the dog out...and sometimes that's more interesting than this film was.
Apparently this is one of the director's best works. I'll dust off the cobwebs, and skip those other movies as this was a complete aimless bore. Just one opinion from a speechless movie fan that was waiting to be entertained and would have had more fun watching paint dry. The only people that will find this compelling & entertaining (you have to be pretty damn desperate) is someone who has never lived in a small town, or the Mid-West, and then you probably won't understand it. To think money was spent producing such an empty plate, is beyond me.
The Intern (2015)
HAllmark Family movie, too unrealistic
2 stars for snagging Robert De Niro for the movie. And that is ALL. His performance was flawless as always, but this candy coated, unbelievable movie ends with no realistic resolve or point and my wife & I were felt it was a complete waste of time. Life just isn't like this, and there was potential for this to be so much more. Can a movie simply be "too sweet"? Yep, this was it. "You're just never home, so I cheated on you. But forgive me and we'll make it work". Downright silly, and quite a bit of the dialogue here was sickeningly sweet.
The perfect movie for a Disney princess who wants & gets it all...I never thought I'd give a De Niro movie thumbs down.
The Ridiculous 6 (2015)
Not near as bad as the reviews indicate
I am confused why someone would state "I don't like Adam Sandler films" then expect to enjoy this! This wasn't made to be an award winning flick and is for those who like a goofy comedy (like Happy Gilmore) and I was hesitant after the various negative reviews. I didn't find anything wrong with this at all. I thought it moved well (for a 2 hr movie), and was a fun flick. I said "FUN" people...not supposed to be deep, thoughtful or life changing. If you enjoyed Happy Gilmore, this is very much the same humor and unfortunately many folks are just not "quick enough" to catch the implied innuendos. I didn't find it to be childish humor as many supposed blockbusters out there are. Could it have been better? I am not sure how...great cast, great sets, some story twists. Sure there is some eye-roll humor, and not overly heavy on belly laughs, but maybe all the negative viewers should move on to something a bit more dark and depressing to match their mood. Save the bad reviews for "Punch Drunk Love" or a Kevin James movie. I for one welcome Adam Sandler's next 3 movies for Netflix.
