The Constant Gardener (2005)
constant gardener
boring...boring...boring.
liked both leads. finnes and weiczs did a good job.
i found the story tedious and difficult to follow. the flashbacks alternating with the present were confusing. it should have been filmed from when they met to the discovery of her death. it would have been easier to follow.too much emphasis on big business and corruption made it hard to keep focused.
i think ralph finnes did do an excellent job. but the movie was less than interesting.
some were confused about the title 'constant gardener'. it stated in the movie that he was called 'the constant gardener' because that's what he did when he wanted to think. the title is not the problem.
i was very disappointed in the result.
The Lion in Winter (2003)
WHAT A WASTE OF Viewing TIME
B*O*R*I*N*G*!!!! this is an incredibly awful representation of the wonderful play and tremendous portrayals of the 1968 film. the acting is dull. stewart and hepburn cannot touch o'toole and hepburn. the role of richard was played as a major wimp, john's portrayal was disastrous, and phillip a joke. only the geoffrey character was interesting, though it does not compare the brilliance of john castle. the script was almost word-for-word, but the deliverance was dull and w/out any passion or inspiration. i cannot say enough bad things about this version...it was entirely a disappointment. stick w/the original, the performances near perfect, and one of the best if not best of the 20th century films. don't waste your time or money on this TV version. see the original, you'll be glad you did.
Brian's Song (1971)
this movie broke my heart....
I read the book this movie was based on 'I Am Third' by Gale Sayers before there even was a movie. I was inspired by the friendship of the two players. The book lightly touched on the death of Brian Piccolo. When the TV movie came on I told my sisters about him and we sat down in my room to watch the movie. By the end of the movie,we were all crying. My younger brother went running out to the living room to tell my mom someone must have died because we were all crying.
Well, the next time it was on I sat w/my mom to watch it. She had the same reaction.
If that wasn't enough sadness, I bought the book 'A Short Season' by Brian Piccolo and another author. I read it most of the day. I was gettiing ready for a date and I was early. I decided to read the end of the book. If you thought the movie was sad, the book broke my heart!! I cried so hard there was black mascara all over my face. I was still sobbing when my date came to the door. Naturally, I had to redo my makeup.
James Caan (who did not resemble Brian at all) did a wonderful job of capturing his spirit. Billy Dee Williams was wonderful as Gale Sayers. The portrayed the guys friendship so well.
It's too bad we all can't know a friend like these two had!
Watch the original movie!
Holiday (1938)
One of the best
One of the funniest, yet moving comedies of the 30's thanks to wonderful performances by Cary Grant and Katherine Hepburn (as usual), Edward Everett Horton, and Lew Ayers! Loved every minute of it. That's entertainment!
When is it coming to DVD? I'll be right there at the door when it does!
The Awful Truth (1937)
Very funny film from the 30's...
Most of my favorite comedies are from the 30's and 40's. This one is no exception. What a laugh riot! Cary Grant and Irene Dunn should have played more movies together (like Flynn/DeHavilland), they play so well off of each other! These two are fit for the looney bin in this wonderfully funny movie! The dog does a great job, too (eat your heart out Asta!).
I've been waiting for it on DVD forever. Now I have it!!!!!
Magnum, P.I. (1980)
The best performance by a guest star....
I have watched from the day it started, to the day it went off the air. Many episodes affected me deeply (Lily, death of Michelle, killing the corrupt officer, etc.), but the episode that touched me the most was the one in which Frank Sinatra guest stars as Mike Doheney who is looking for the killer of his lovely grandaughter. I cried my eyes out as he stood at her grave in the end of the movie. It was very moving. I felt Frank Sinatra once again pulled off an excellent performance. He was excellent!
Just thought I'd pass it along.

China Beach (1988)
DANA DELANEY IS CHINA BEACH !!!!!
This closest thing to a perfect show is my favorite series of all time. The actors were always excellent (w/the exception of Robert Picardo and Megan Gallagher....I don't know, but I just didn't like them very much). The show could not have been made w/out Dana Delaney. If it had it wouldn't be half as good. She is Colleen McMurphy...McMurphy is China Beach...Dana Delaney is the key. Her performance both comic and drmatic are so true to life. Her emotions of the war are so real it scares you into thinking that this is too real. She has such a wonderful gift. I hope we see more of her real soon.
WHY IS THIS SERIES NOT ON DVD?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? I find this a serieous omission. If anyone hears about it coming to DVD, please let me know by email! Thanks!
Hush...Hush, Sweet Charlotte (1964)
One of the Best.......!!!!!!!!!!1
WHEN IS THIS WONDERFULLY ACTED, PERFECTLY CREEPY FILM GOING TO DVD?!?!?! Does anybody know? If you know anything about it, please email me. I have been checking for years, but have yet to find any information.
Best scary parts? Bruce Dern's head and hand going chop-chop and Joseph Cotten standing at the top of the stairs, all wet and slimy!!!!
Every person in this movie went above and beyond. Mary Astor as the infrequently shown Jewel Mayhew even has her fine moments.
The film belongs to Bette Davis (although overacted it is certainly understandable here), and to the GLORIOUS Olivia DeHavilland. What a role!
I watch this film every time I find it on TV. It's always a thrill.
Ocean's Eleven (2001)
B O R I N G !!!
I don't mind at all that the movie is nothing like the plot of the original. What I do mind is the fact that this movie has no plot at all. The all-star cast is well and fine, but the story line just sat there. I had totally no interest in the characters, or the scam. The only redeeming factor was when George Clooney left the money for 'the girl'. He was man enough to admit it, and walk away from the loot. Otherwise, it stunk.
American Beauty (1999)
Incredibily overrated and stupid movie.
Although Kevin Spacey and Annette Benning are terrific in their roles I can't help but think what a mish-mash of sorts this movie is. I felt I was passed around from character to character each with another dippy problem that had no relationship to the rest of the movie. Disappointing.
Plan 9 from Outer Space (1957)
World's worst movie? I don't think so!
Although this movie actually is pretty awful, it's what it has become today as a cult classic is what is really important! There's Boris Karloff, there he isn't. Where did this new guy come from? But the best part to me, which is practically genius, is when the white paper plates fly across the screen to resemble flying saucers (with no special effects I might add). I wet my pants every time I see that scene, and I just can't eat off one to this day. It's a must see for every classic movie lover.
Will & Grace (1998)
Best Comedy Around
Since I Love Lucy and Laverne and Shirley I have not seen such great comedy! This is just the best show on TV today. Their lines are great, they deliver them perfectly, they're excellent actors, and they never bore me. I even watch the reruns, and I'll definetly buy the dvd's if they come out. I've never laughed so hard. I hand it to Will, Grace, Jack, Karen and Rosario! What a team! What a show!
The Commitments (1991)
What a wonderful feel good movie!
This movie kicks! These street band guys that all get together thanks to their buddy Jimmy Rabitte for a Soul Band in the heart of Dublin. Who'd a thought! The music is fabulos, the story and plot believeable down to the very last scene. Based on friends of mine in the music business, this is so close to real. This has some of the greatest soul I've heard in a long time. I constantly play the CD in my car, and watch the DVD at home. Since 1991 I've been hooked! And I'm proud of it!
The In-Laws (1979)
The absolute funniest movie I have ever seen !!!
This movie has become a cult favorite between my brother, his friend Jim, my cousin Rich and I. We LOVED it. I never laughed so hard. I really do think it is the funniest movie I've ever seen. My brother and Jim were playing Sr. League baseball at the time, and everytime they would come in from the outfield or get a hit we'd all shout serpintine! sperpintine! Their coaches thought they were nuts, because they did it right there on the field. I work in a video store, and every time I recommend this video to someone they come back and tell me how much they loved it. What a classic!
The Royal Tenenbaums (2001)
dreadfull!
this was absolutely the most worthless piece of garbage I have ever seen. I cannot express how much I hated this film. The writing (if you can call it that), acting, direction all falls in the category of horrible. The only saving grace is Gene Hackman...but even he can't save this insulting drivel.
