Crimson Tide (1995)
Not What I Expected
I saw this movie for one reason, and one reason only: Viggo Mortensen, who was as brilliant as he always is. I didn't know what to expect, as in general, I really don't enjoy war movies. I have to say I was REALLY impressed with this movie. The acting was for the most part superb. Denzel was great, though I do have to say that at times I found that he lacked the authority that someone in his position should really have acquired by this point in their career. Gene Hackman gave a great and very believable performance, as well, and to be honest, though I was mostly in favor with Denzel's character I couldn't really decide at points which had the smarter motive, because you really don't know what is going on in the rest of the world.
G.I. Jane (1997)
RE: G.I. Jane
When this movie first came out, I was semi-interested in it, not enough to go and see it in the theatre, as this is not the kind of movie that I am usually a fan of. When it was aired on TV, I decided I would give it a try, and I have to say that for the most part, it was quite an enjoyable movie. The most appealing part of this movie, I have to say, was without a doubt, Viggo Mortensen. I have seen him in several movies, and he never fails to steal every scene he is in. He has a magnetic, enigmatic presence on screen. The fight scene between himself and Demi Moore, I have to say, was really well-done, and I do have to say, that although I am a HUGE fan of Viggo, he deserved that. Demi Moore was also pretty good in this movie. I am not really a fan of Demi, but I do have to say it is incredibley refreshing to see a movie with a woman who can prove that she is strong and capable, without resorting the typical cliched lines that the 'tough' women always use in most movies, which I find absolutely repulsive and nauseating.
Anna Karenina (1997)
RE: Anna Karenina
To be honest, I have not read this book. I have heard that it was a classic and all those other things that people say about his book, but really had no idea what the story is about. Actually, the main reason that I watched this movie, was that Sean Bean was in it(I had previously seen him in Lord of the Rings, and really enjoyed him). I was surprised to find this story so engaging. I thought that he was amazing in this movie, very charming. He just has this intangible quality that always has me rooting for him.
This is the first movie that I have ever seen Sophie Marceau in(playing Anna Karenina) and I found that she portrays Anna with a delicate grace, that makes you understand Vronsky's(Bean) dogged pursuit of her.
True, I have to say that I found the end a little disappointing, and heart-wrenching. Sean Bean shines at the end of the movie, I think he really shows well just how much Vronsky finally realizes he has lost.
The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (2001)
Big Surprise
Before this movie was made, I had barely even heard of the Lord of the Rings trilogy. When the movie came out, it got such rave reviews and looked so interesting that I was quite eager to see it. When I finally did see it, I was SO impressed. The story is absolutely enthralling, the special affects were amazing, and the acting was superb. This movie really got me more interested in all the actors playing the hobbits, and also Ian McKellen, actually to be honest, I REALLY enjoyed all the actors, especially, Viggo Mortensen(playing Aragorn). There is not one element, one scene in this movie, (in my opinion) that could use any improvement. I would strongly recommend this movie to any who enjoys the fantasy\science fiction, even if you have not read the books. This is the best movie I have ever seen, and I can't wait to see the rest of the trilogy.
