21 Bridges (2019)
Entertaining old school feel cop film
12 October 2020
Thoroughly enjoyable with good cinematography, strong cast and decent plot. Reminiscent of Heat, The Town and Serpico in the storyline and pace.

The Gentlemen (2019)
Story spoiled by poor casting
24 September 2020
Generally Guy Ritchie films are engaging with a distinct cinematography, this is no exception. However, you simply cannot overlook the dreadful miscasting. Aside from High Grant, and the Toddlers, the other characters would be better served with different actors. The leads lack gravitas and are misplaced in the film's gene. It comes across as though some of them asked to play the role just to be associated with this type of film rather than actually having the ability to pull it off.

Brilliant - best things on Netflix for long time
16 August 2020
Quite simply this series is outstanding. The insight it offers on the drivers and team principles as people and employees is truly ground breaking. The onboard race footage is unparalleled. The brutality and violence of the racing is eye opening. This is a MUST SEE!!

Midway (2019)
Did not know they still made films like this
30 July 2020
This film missed the mark big time. The quality of cast and production is clear but the editing made the story disjointed and the style appeared to be from the 1940s USA propaganda machine.

Enjoyable except for Butler
13 April 2020
This is a decent action / conspiracy type film with some enjoyable scenes and reasonably entertaining plot. Lance Reddick does his usual good job and who does not like Morgan Freeman as the president. However, Gerard Butler is once again hopeless and hapless. Why does he try to do an American accent when he has trouble with his native tongue due to some weird speech impediment. Frankly he has done unexplicably well for himself in Hollywood given his best role to date was from Tomb Raider. Butler aside, this is not a bad film and quite enjoyable for the genre.

Outlander (2014– )
Occasional decent acting but annoying characters
14 March 2020
Story-line is ok but the subject matter is quite politically divisive making watching a bit uncomfortable at times. The lead female character is about as annoying as you can get. The lead male character does improve a bit over the various series. Overall, i can see why people like this show but if you are close to the politics it is a bit jingoistic.

Awful directing and script
14 March 2020
Quite a decent cast for the genre of film but truly dreadful directing and terrible script ruined any chance of this film being entertaining.

Uncut Gems (2019)
Pretty bad film
9 February 2020
I am not an Adam Sandler fan so my expectations were low but the hype surrounding this film tipped my hand into watching it. As far as my expectations being low, I was not disappointed The story had promise but the script and acting totally ruined it.

The characters are cartoon like stereotypes and the acting only serves to amplify this. Only a couple of the supporting cast get pass marks.

The flow of the story blurs logic and timelines leaving you wondering if you had drifted off and missed part of the film. Wish I had missed all of it.

Unwatchable
16 December 2019
The worst accents in a film ever!! Story is disjointed and characters are too weak to be recognizable. Actors are terrible. Obvious that a few dollars were spent on the budget / set and some nice locations but the whole thing is just dreadful, boring and ultimately unwatchable.

Overlord (2018)
Good quality production, nothing film
3 April 2019
Just over a hour in and we start to get some teaser of interesting action that is quickly dispelled as nothing much else happens.

the promise of zombie types simple does not materialize, leaving the strength of plot exposed to enthusiastic acting let down by the trailer.

Not worth watching.

Creed II (2018)
Boring
2 April 2019
Frankly this is a strange film in terms of how it was styled. Not sure what the targeted demographic audience was as not much in the way of boxing, a bunch of pseudo family emotional stuff and overuse of one dimensional music score.

Give this one a miss and you won't miss anything memorable.

Entertaining

Story progresses at a good pace and there are a few twists in the plot albeit a bit obvious but entertaining none the less.

Not a good film
16 February 2019
Hard to understand the hype for this film given the poor acting and weak story telling. The on-screen interaction between the characters is wooden and the lead actor passing a vague resemblance to Freddie Mercury needs to offer more than a pair of goofy teeth to make things credible.

The editing is mixed, some parts, mainly concert scenes are pretty good but the story jumps around with little transition and little build up.

Overall, this is a dull attempt.

Mumbly, cliched garbage.

Hunt for Red October this is not. Terrible acting and dreadful CGI. Zero suspense, underwhelming action and Gerard Butler is atrocious.

Beautiful country and food, insulted by the presenter and editor
5 February 2019
Why do we have to endure a total idiot presenting a show called Bizarre Foods when there is no bizarre food shown, plus the guy spouts historical and cultural inaccuracies, no doubt falling foul to the locals taking the piss. The episode gets 10/10 due to the country and food and not for the insulting presentation.

Dreary, verbose and very brown!
5 February 2019
Just about every scene is brown. Brown clothes, brown wallpaper, brown furniture....just brown. This fits with the uninteresting nature of the film and story. Can't even see this being interesting to Woody Allen fans as lacks corny one liners. This type of film deserves to be consigned to a time gone by as is simply not entertaining in any fashion.

Get Out (I) (2017)
Poor and predictable
4 February 2019
Biggest shock about this film was that it was classed as a horror. It was pretty boring and awkwardly acted. The story line was clearly aiming at racial divide but lacked edge and frankly seemed watered down to the point where it did not hold the viewer's interest with its lack of a well crafted story.

The Grand Tour: The Colombia Special Part 2 (2019)
Season 3, Episode 3
Dreadful, over the hill
29 January 2019
Season one was a bit hit or miss but put it down to the new format, season 2 was a lot better so had high hopes for season 3. However, the Columbia special was probably the worst thing they have ever done. Fantastic scenery was butchered by amateurish editing and the "stunts" were not even puerile so as to be slap stick funny but were so terrible and predictable they were boring.

Irreversible (2002)
Not great but worth seeing to the end
16 October 2018
I was ready to give up on this after about 20 minutes as I just did not settle into the reverse story thing and found the camera work and colors distracting. I've seen comments suggesting it is hard to watch given the violence but that was not what made the first 20 minutes or so hard to watch. Stick it out though and the story and way the story is being told starts to make more sense and you begin to understand the characters and I quite liked the way each character was introduced in sequence.

The story was decent, the acting was pretty good but the direction and cinematography was what let this film down for me.

Good story, good characters, well acted
1 July 2018
Hard to mess up a true story and invariably make for very good films that stand or fall on the cast.

The lead actors, Christopher Plummer and Williams, are fantastic.

Plummer carries out the role of the miserly JPG outrageously well as by about half way through the film you are expecting him to soften but he just keeps going and even manages to amplify the insight to the money is everything mindset.

Williams has a less dramatically defined character but nonetheless delivers a realistic mother with limited options fighting an institution performance.

The story itself was well paced and the locations well picked. However, the '70s stylized camera work was a bit distracting and is now tending to be overused.

Act of Valor (2012)
Better off watching an episode of the A-Team
1 July 2018
Had high hopes for this given the real SEAL dimension but it was not the SEALs who let this film down, nor was it the cameramen but the plot and direction.

It is nicely shot, good locations, albeit too many switches, and decent acting but the story was overkill and the constantly changing locations made it reminiscent of the the opening credits for The A-Team.

The voice-over was distracting given the lack of emotion in the voice and the good vs evil characters was comic book like.

Overall it came across like a cold war era propaganda film which I'm sure was not the intention as movie goers today are too savvy to fall for such attempts. I feel the filmmakers let the SEALs down and should have taken a leaf out of the Tears of The Sun playbook.

Decent story let down by Butler
21 June 2018
I quite enjoyed the plot and the though I was well filmed, mostly. The cast was pretty good on the whole but the biggest distraction was the miscasting of the lead character.

The film had potential to be a hybrid of HEAT and Training Day but the acting by Butler of troubled lead character was nothing short of dreadful. It was cliched to the point of amateurish.

He was so poor he even made 50 Cent look passable. His wooden portrait made his scenes drag on and on.

That said, the rest of the cast, 50 Cent included, contributed well and made the plot and action pretty decent. It does remind me of HEAT and that was a good thing. The lead character reminded me of Training Day and that would have been a good thing if it was not for the miscasting.

Hopefully the squeal will feature less of Butler.

Line of Duty (2012–2021)
Lacks grit and is poorly cast
25 April 2017
I watched this on the strength of the IMDb reviews but was a major disappointment.

For me the biggest issue is the cast who are unconvincing and too weak to make up for the generally slow pace of the series.

Compston is the main offender and I am baffled how he continues to secure headlining roles. He is better suited to the cameo NED type, think Sweet Sixteen, where his lack of acting is overlooked by the loathsomeness of the NED genre.

Given the positive reviews by others, this show may just not be my cup of tea so I cannot wholeheartedly say it's not one to go watch.

The Wee Man (2013)
Dreadful acting and ridiculously one sided
25 April 2017
This film is truly awful. The lead actor is totally out his depth as a Glasgow gangland enforcer and the way the story was portrayed was nothing short of a pantomime in it's attempt to position the lead character as the hero.

Does this film have any redeeming qualities? No!

If you think you will see a good British gangster film full of big characters, violence, betrayal and other must have ingredients you are wasting your time.

Do not bother to watch this, you will be angry at how amateurish it is.

How did this film franchise get so bad?
18 April 2017
The first film was engrossing as was new concept. The second film was intriguing as you were curious on how they would follow up but this film as the third carnation is simply pure garbage.

The plot is dreadful, the acting is dreadful, the effects are dreadful.

The unfortunate thing is it is not even in the category of its so bad its good. Its just bad, bad, bad.

The only bright spot was the blonde secretary, she fulfilled her character quite well.

Do not waste your time on this, it is rubbish.
