Star Trek (2009)
Unfortunately, as expected
This movie played and felt exactly like almost all other recent Hollywood blockbusters. The characters are the exact same ones you see in other films just with different names and the balance of action-packed and plot-lacked is just as similar.
Overall the story was awful and basically destroyed anything remotely connected with the Star Trek as most fans know it. The action meanwhile was very good and the movie came very fancy and fast-paced.
Spock was done the best. He was most like the Spock we all remember while the new Kirk seemed pushed too heavily on the arrogant-American side. Also, a structured main character who is the cool, hard life genius that knows-he's-better-than-anyone-else is such an overused creation these days that if this was any other movie I might have given up watching it. A lot of focus was also put on Uhura obviously because the movie "needed" some sexual element.
I wish these Star Trek movies and shows would finally end. If it wasn't a "Star Trek" movie than I might have called this just an average action movie but unfortunately it was supposed to be a "Star Trek" movie, somehow.
Inglourious Basterds (2009)
Better if it had been shorter
Entering this film I was expecting a gore-fest similar to that of Kill Bill. Happily, my expectations weren't fulfilled this time. I thought the film decent overall with some good sections of witty dialogue and prose. There were some funny instances with the Basterd team as well which I enjoyed watching but I still found that the last third of the film dragged on and wasn't as good as the first two-thirds. The ending to me was also a letdown since there was so much build up for it and then in a minor instant it was all over.
I was surprised at how few scenes Brad Pitt actually had - since he was billed as the starring actor. The actor whom played the German Colonel I thought did a fantastic job overall and would be happy in seeing him in more films.
Perhaps multiple watchings of this film would be required to get a better appreciation but for now I would only cautiously recommend the film to most others.
Happy Feet (2006)
There are better animated movies out there
Since 90% of the recent animated films I've seen in the past six years or so have been overall good, if not great, I thought that Happy Feet could not be a let down. Overall I found the movie a struggle to watch and all the contemporary pop music which you find penguins singing and mimicking so uninteresting that I'd rather be watching Youtube videos than this film.
Happy Feet puts up little competition against the Disney/Pixar behemoth. I found the story uninteresting and somewhat crude to be presenting to children. The multiple sex-based themes in the film I found offensive and not appropriate to be showing. The scene alone with Robin Williams playing the wise penguin and leaving with a dozen female penguins and asking "who will be first" was shocking to me.
Overall I would quickly recommend other animated films before this one.
Tempo di uccidere (1989)
Why was this film made?
Found an old VHS version of this film in my parents house so I thought I'd give it a go. Right from the start I wasn't expecting much from this film and I'm glad for that because overall the film was no good.
The acting overall was very poor, even for a Nicolas Cage movie. One scene with a radio controller stands out as being so pitiful that I found it hilarious that this scene wasn't cut. The first 30 minutes of the film had almost no developed plot and I didn't know what was going on.
The story itself had the possibility of being decent but either the director was just bad or was trying too hard to put his own unique touch on the style of the film. I managed to watch the whole thing but I won't likely ever see this film again.
