The Pope's Exorcist (2023)
Typical Exorcism Movie
Well I wouldn't be lying if I'd say I was expecting anything special going into this.
It's your same old same old exorcism story with all the familiar things you'd expect. Nothing new. Even though the blueprint already exists for this genre, the implementation in this movie is also nothing to wrote home about. Nothing stands out in a good way.
All in all, a forgettable "scary" movie that honestly is not even scary.
I don't recommend this one. Save your money and time.
If you are craving for an exorcism movie, do yourself a favor and watch the "Exorcist (1973)" or even "Exorcism of Emely Rose.
Tenet (2020)
A Very Good Netflix Film
I'm gonna make this short. This was probably one of the first big movies that was allowed to be screened during COVID19 so everybody was excited to be back in the cinemas but those excitements were short lived. Right off the bat, the movie hits you with some inaudible dialogues that makes you think if you are hard on hearing or if they are talking in another language. Then the movie starts to paint the picture and finally the finale which was more or less predictable for this genre of movies.
Pretty much everything in the movie from acting to visuals to music was a solid 3/5. After all, it's a Nolan movie and you cannot expect less.
I personally don't like watching movies that I won't understand well enough after once spending my money and time in a cinema. If a movie is going to me too complicated to be understood (to a reasonable level) in one go of cinema, it should be a Netflix or HBO or Amazon show so people can watch it over and over or pause and think. Watching these type of movies in cinema are waste of time and money and you will walk out feeling dumb and a ticket price poorer.
P.S
If you are really into this type of contents, I'd highly recommend Dark on Netflix which is in almost every respect better than Tenet.
Dark (2017)
Outstanding (but a tiny bit too much)
It's an unbelievably well made and detailed show with fantastic cast, directing, cinematography and music. It walks the fine line of confusion and curiosity which is incredibly difficult to pull out. You won't understand but you want to keep watching, then you'll find more things to not understand and start watching to learn about those and all of a sudden you forget what was it that you were trying to decipher in the first place. It's perhaps one of the bests in the history of film making to this date.
The only problem is that as the show keeps going forward, it uses the same formula again and again and again and again until you become numb to it and it's not satisfying anymore. The trick is that the show never gives you a sound understanding of the world so whatever the show makers show you, sounds like the biggest thing ever, especially when delivered with good good music and a bunch of weird dialogues and shots. Then, they come and make everything cloudy again and dump another huge load of things you won't understand on top of everything else. I wish the show was a little more generous in giving the audience a sense of discovery and not keep bombarding the viewer with mysterious stuff literally every 5 minutes. It's not fun.
It seriously becomes nauseating eventually and not in a good sense. There's almost nothing in the world that you can cling on and make a foundation on it. I got desensitized toward it all gradually by mid season 2 onward. The cost of thinking hard to understanding the plot is not proportional with the satisfaction of that eureka moment so it becomes pointless towards as we go forward. You'd just get used to not understanding what's happening anymore and you'd not bother. This is very prominent in the later parts of the show.
All in all, this is an amazing show, nonetheless, and I highly recommend it. Take the first 15 or so episodes seriously and the other 15 or so as chill as possible because every time you think you got something figured out, you'd be probably wrong. So just take it easy
Avengers: Endgame (2019)
Great pPotential Wasted by Weak Writing
Well, this has been what we all have been waiting for quite some time now. 10 years in making, characters we grew find of and vast and complex storylines. They all have ended up to this movie. I wanted to watch this movie on the opening night and couldn't wait to get in. As someone who has been following the Marvel universe fairly thoroughly and watched almost all of the movies leading to this one multiple times, to be honest, I wasn't blown away. The problem for me was that while I was enjoying the movie, I couldn't help but to realize this is going to be THE last one, so all of a sudden I wasn't that impress with the way many scenes were being handled. Especially, when you compare it to some of the other Marvel movies which were fantastic. If I were to single out one problem, it would be poor writing. I don't know whether they had time issue or spmething else but the material is so weak and the dialogues are so forgettable and superficial that were robbing the beauty out of the fantastic visual effects and sound effects and acceptable directing and casting. There were numerous occasions I was literally yearning for a killer line by the characters to hit me write in the heart and lingers with me for the rest of my life but the magic was far far from there. It was weird in a sense that they have already had many splendid writings in the Marvel movies to this date but why the most important chapter (the finale) should be like this is truly astonishing. All in all, it is not a bad movie in any ways but for the folks who have been following the Marvel movies seriously or semi-seriously, you will be a little disappointed that why this potential has been wasted in this way.
Badigard (2016)
Good attempt falls short
I'm a fan of HatamiKia and Saw this movie on the first day it came out because the fuzz and buzz was so much beforehand. I was expecting another masterpiece from Hatamikia, something like Glass Agency. Movie started well and was very engaging but suddenly fell down to level of a very normal film and stayed there for the rest of it... Actings were not superb at all even Parastoei who's a phenomenal actor wasn't extraordinary let alone the other actors. The worst part of the movie in my opinion is directing and story, specially the latter. Screenplay was just oofffff and gets you lost (not in a good way). Most of the Dialogues were either too much of a show off or hard to understand or relate to. Simply put, the movie was struggling so hard to be a masterpiece but falls short. Due to a new story, Bodyguard could be entertaining for normal people of the society (who watches movie occasionally) however professionals, semi-professionals and critics would probably find it boring and kind of weird.
Mohammad Rasoolollah (2015)
A masterpiece on a whole different level
I was following the making of this movie from far and knew it would turn out to be an extraordinary piece of work. After lots of waiting, Muslims tribute to their prophet is out in a time that aggression and brutality is offered in the name of Islam. let's get to it: first of all the cinematography is ***unbelievable***... wow.. Whole movie looks like a dream, literally. When the movie is finished, you feel like getting up from a dream. Actors and actresses are suitable for the roles and offer a better picture for early Islam. Music is so good and driving that makes you sink into the scenes and is a very fine mixture of modern Hollywood scores and classical Iranian music. Visual effects are acceptable in comparison to lots of modern movies. And the story..., it's an artistically beautiful and amazingly emotional piece of screenplay that covers the Pre-Islamic world from couple of months before the birth and to the Prophet's 13th birthday. WARNING it'll probably make your eyes wet. This movie is definitely the best religious movie of all time so far by far, just compare it to the Passion of Christ, Noah, Messenger and ... then you'll quickly get the point, it's completely on a different level. To be honest, Muhammad (PBUH) may not be a 100% flawless movie but it's one of those you simply cannot resist giving 10/10... it's UNBELIEVABLY beautiful and emotional.
