Mujeres al borde de un ataque de nervios
10 July 2023
I rarely feel the need to write reviews, but this show really left an impression. It's very gritty, there's a lot of screaming going around, and I can understand that some viewer can be put off by the really over the top performance of Madeleine Sami for her Eddie character, a very grating persona, obnoxious, rude and vulgar, horny, dumb, she sure has a full plate.

In fact, most of the characters are really cranking it to 11 and then pushing some more, with the notable exception of Kartanya Maynard, whose Miranda Hoskins was really nuanced and subtle.

In any case, if you're able to stick with it beyond the first 2 episodes, you'll find it increasingly likable, and actually more and more astonishing. I thought the characters were really well defined, their many relationships between one another always unique and interesting. The interactions between Dulcie and Eddie are particularly great (which makes sense, as it is the main story), but all the subplots were also quite good.

Also, it keeps you guessing as to who could be the culprit until the end, which is always a plus for a whodunit.

Take your shot

Maybe it's when you have the least expectations that you can be the most enthused. I had not heard anything about this movie, did not know that the game had ever been banned anywhere, and have never played much pinball myself (never been any good at it, which helps, of course).

And I was absolutely delighted by this movie. It's an underdog story, obviously "based on real events", probably a little spiced up for the movie, and that's all right. The story is great, the characters are likable, the actors do a great job, the editing is neat, the direction efficient, the photography perfect. It's a very pleasant ride through and through, really uplifting. I loved it.

A major turd

It's almost immediately obvious that this is a very bad movie. There is one impressive chase in Prague (although CGIed through the gills), but the script fits on the back of a subway ticket, the dialogues are cheesy as hell, and the acting is absolutely unconvincing all around.

Suspect from the start
2 September 2020
I started watching this movie because I'm interested in Physics and science. I had no preconceptions about it, yet, from the very start I began to suspect it was a vessel for an unholy, if you will, purpose. What with the permeating cheesy music and the sparkly graphics superimposed on largely meaningless accumulation of words, it soon became obvious this was only trying to sell God, of whatever ilk.

As another reviewer said, sheer garbage.

Unforgettable

I'm not going to describe the plot, plenty of that below. However, i want to agree with the most enthusiastic posters : this movie is a true gem.

It's a punch in the face when you see it, and you keep on carrying it with you after that. It's been 2 years since i saw, only once, Chaos, and still i cannot get it out of my head.

Many movies have come and gone since, but how many of them have left their mark, how many made you *really* reconsider some aspects of your life ? (Not that i was a male chauvinist pig to begin with, i think/hope.) This is one angry, 100% essential movie.

a subtle drama about working women
5 March 2003
This is a story about a women-only cleaning team for a supermarket in the suburbs of a large city in a somewhat bleak part of France. The team leader is played by squat actress Muriel Robin, previously known mostly for her one-woman comic shows. Her character is hard working, driven, uncompromising, often harsh, and she covets a prize for best cleaning team of the supermarket.

Despite this, despite being affiliated along with her flailing husband to a far-right political party, and despite being abused by the store manager, she reveals a tenderness for her (often illegal aliens) teammates, that is simply stunning and overwhelming. This is probably Mehdi Charef's best film to date, profoundly moving and intelligent. It was without a doubt one of the 2 best movies i saw in 2000.
