Mai (2022)
Same old story
The bag of cliches (owned by the desi tv producers) has been passed to the makers of this show.
Why does the bad guys look so stereotyped.
What's with the muddy Color's?
Couldn't even watch for more than 15 minutes.
Looop Lapeta (2022)
Avoid at all costs
Could last 10 minutes.
Dialogues and frames looped too.
Tris to be hip with camera cuts and vivid Color's.
Totally misses the point.
'Show don't tell'
Avoid at all costs.
Small Island (2009)
Must watch
Ruth Wilson! Why is she ignored. First Luther and now this. She is so emotive.
Benedict cumberbatch! In a small but significant role. His eyes say so much.
Both in a role that will linger in your mind for a long time.
Naomi Harris plays her part perfectly.
British television at its best.
Suraj Pe Mangal Bhari (2020)
Antagonist
Never understood the motivations of the antagonist.
Good acting saved this movie.
Manoj, Comedy is not your forte.
Dialogues seemed like they were strung together
Khuda Haafiz (2020)
Good acting
Acting:- Vidyut, Annu and the antagonist were brilliant.
The supporting cast did their job adequately.
Story:- gripping and eye opening.
Direction:- in the action scenes I got flashes of Daredevil, Taken, John Wick and of all the movies Mad Max: Fury road!!!
Could have trimmed about 20 minutes of the movie.
Overall: worth a watch for the lead actor!!
The Final Call (2019)
Mediocre
Things I never understood:-
Arjun ramphals motivation?
How did he go from antagonist to protagonist?
His stupid pony tail.
Bad CGI by prime focus.
The grandpa heading the task force?
Things I like:-
Shahski tanwar,
Suresh Kalbi
Javed Jafrey.
Overall:- for fans of Arjun worth a miss.
Little Voice (2020)
Lost amongst the shuffling or shuffling amongst the lost
Loses momentum after episode 5.
Seems like in episode 6 & 7 the writers are throwing everything in the wall and hoping something sticks.
Only redeeming factor is Sara Bareilles song. Hope she got paid well, and this doesn't hurt her career.
Bhaukaal (2020)
Up there with gangs of wasseypur & mirzapur
Solid writing and direction.
Dialogues were cringy.
What stood out was Mohit as Ssp Navin Sakheria, along with the task force and the baddies.
Having said that, the guy acting as Shaukeen was the hammiest actor I've ever seen. I hope he has a day job.
Breathe: Into the Shadows (2020)
Zee tv soap
Pedestrian direction. Scenes seem to go on forever like a tv soap opera.
Background music sounds like a 80's tv serial.
Female lead phones in her performance.
My review is based on 1.75 episodes.
I'd taper watch the 1st season again.
Breathe (2018)
Pathetic Dexter
Mahadevan should give up acting.
Drink cop cliche has been thrashed to death.
His hip flask has an endless bottom.
Pathetic.
Hope season 2 with abhisehek bachchan is better
Spectre (2015)
3 stars for the cinematography (SPOILER ALERT)
After finally watching Spectre last night, I couldn't help but notice an insane amount of similarities between it and MI:Rogue Nation which came out earlier this year. Here are the similarities: Main Character goes rogue: in both movies, Ethan Hunt and James Bond respectfully go rogue and operate independent of the spy organization they work for. Both characters are searching for a shadowy organization (Spectre or the Syndicate) that is responsible for worldwide mayhem. Nobody seems to believe that these organizations exist, except for the main hero. Spy organizations are out of date: in both movies, while the main character is out on his own, the organization he works for is getting shut down. Literally, a major plot point in both movies involves the absorption of the IMF and MI6 into a larger government body. Austria: Both main characters travel to Austria in their respective movies. Bond goes to learn more from Mr. White in his cabin on a lake, and Ethan Hunt goes to the opera. Either way, both go to Austria Morocco: Bond spends a lot of time in Spectre in Morocco, specifically in the city of Tangiers. Ethan Hunt, in a stunning turn of events, spends a good portion of MI:Rogue Nation in Morocco too. -Both villains have weird ways of talking. Not too much analysis involved here, but that doesn't make it any less true The head of the British intelligence ends up being evil: In both movies, this is true. In Spectre, C becomes head of MI6 during its absorption into the government. He is revealed to have been working for Spectre at the end of the movie. The head of MI6 during MI:Rogue Nation, is revealed to have been the creator of the Syndicate. The rest of the gang joins in: after being separated for the entire movie, in both movies, Bond/Hunt's friends at the MI6/IMF join the fight against the villainous organization. M and Q join the fight during a car chase scene in London. Similarly, Jeremy Renner and Ving Rhames join in the help Ethan during, once again, a car chase scene. London: both movies end in London. I know, I know. But it's true Bulletproof boxes: In MI:Rogue Nation, they finally catch the villain by putting him in a bulletproof box. He tries shooting his way out but can't. In Spectre, bond find Oberhauser in the old MI6 building, but he can't kill him because he's surrounded by bulletproof, clear wall.
I'm thoroughly convinced either Christopher McQuarrie's script was stolen by Sam Mendes, or vice versa. Have spy movies become too clichéd over the years? Verdict: I preferred MI:Rogue Nation much more than Spectre) :)
Piku (2015)
worth a watch
Dear Mr. Bachchan, While your acting was flawless I do not think that a thespian of your stature should be acting in this sort of role. You should have mentored another actor in this role and taking the credit. Please see 'Danny Collins', Sunshine Boys (these two come to mind immediately). That's the kind of role(s) you should be doing.
Deepika was great, fitting into the role of an independent heroine who doesn't need a (actual) love interest to keep with the norms of Bollywood.
Irrfan....err...why?
Story was linear, yet the companions in this road trip made up for the bland depictions. Yet, can't understand why bowel movements (or lack of) should have been made into such a big deal.
Cinematography was pleasant with quaint glimpses of Calcutta v/s the hustle of a big city.
Stand Up Guys (2012)
horrible
The entire lead cast is wasted. I wonder how this movie got funded. Don't waste a single moment of your time on this piece of sh*t. If this movie wins an Oscar for anything I'm off Hollywood forever. The only redeeming fact was the production design, I could really smell the prison stank/ and the retirement home smell of death. All the female cast were way too good for the peers they were cast against. Gotta see Scent of a Woman (an caricaturisation homage done in this movie) & True Romance again! Too much of the movie is wasted dialogue which doesn't lead anywhere. Fisher Stevens you would be better off making a follow-up to Short Circuit.
Raat Gayi, Baat Gayi? (2009)
adult dramedy
Loved this movie and thought it would get more viewings with a better name. Guess the promoters/producers thought this cheap name would bring in more front benchers. Rajat why the beard??? Neha stop going over the top in slutty roles! Ranvir what were you doing in this movie?? Makrand- wanted to see more of you? Sudhir Mishra- nice look. Naveen - thank you for playing your age and not over-acting. Dalip - got more footage than you should have. anu/ Iravat - well played. Music was nicely complimenting the movie
Overall an excellent growing up for Bollywood. Keep it up Rajat, nice follow-up to Bheja Fry. Do not succumb to mainstream cinema please...
