Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer (1986)
A movie which failed to give me what I wanted
This film is a failure. It could be a normal or good one if it weren't about Henry Lee Lucas. I expected the film to depict the protagonist realistically. The movie could be impressive, but it was just ridiculous. I expected it to portray a serial killer with an awful background, a murderer for whom killing people is as easy as drinking a glass of water, and not a respectful man who kills a guy only when he becomes too rude (the fat shopkeeper) to make us think that he actually deserved it. I expected to see the dark, gruesome story of a serial killer who lived a terrible life, not a typical Hollywood murderer who makes clever remarks like "No plan is perfect". This is ludicrous. His love story was also absurd. I don't really expect a ruthless killer to recount his ugliest memories so easily for someone he loves to make her sympathize with him. He finally even killed the woman he loved. How scary!! The director has made magnificent films such as Mad Dog and Glory or Wild Things, but this one was not good, not even for a beginner as he then was. He shouldn't have directed such a worthless script.
Teheran Tabu (2017)
Another worthless cliché
Don't waste your time watching this. The movie offers nothing new. It's just another cliché about social matters in Iran. A cliché can be well-made and realistic, but this film is not. The beginning scene is so awful, just like rest of it. This is not Iran. Everything is so awfully exaggerated about Iran's society in this film. What is the director trying to say? That Iranians are living in a very bad condition because of the current government or something? That the society is very corrupt? Unfortunately, the new trend in the Iranian filmmaking industry is much more corrupt than the society this film tries to demonstrate. I think films like this spoil the art of filmmaking and cinema. It's just worthless.
A History of Violence (2005)
A good film but I expected more!
In comparison with other movies by David Cronenberg, this one is rather a simple film with a simple story, though it doesn't mean that it ain't good at all. A History of violence is a good film but maybe not a unique one, as Cronenberg is a unique director.
I suppose that Cronenberg made a successful move into making crime films, especially when he made Eastern Promises after this, but I believe that Eastern Promises which is usually compared to this, is maturer in every aspect.
I somehow didn't find it an original work by the director, but anyways It was great and certainly worth watching. I recommend A History of Violence to those who like Cronenberg.
Mafia II (2010)
The best video game I've ever played!
Mafia 2 is probably the best video game I've ever played. I was a great fan of Mafia: The City of Lost Heaven and it remains one of the best games ever made. But yet, in comparison, despite many people or critics, I found this one far more perfect. The game will still be great if you haven't played the first one, but if you have, you will make the best of it.
Something that amazed me in this game was the perfect story full of unexpected surprises. The Gameplay was also good along the rest of the game, but considering only the Gameplay, it may not the best video game for me. The visuals are also outstanding.
It doesn't make sense to me to see people compare this to games such as Grand Theft Auto. GTA series are fun, but mafia and GTA are separate worlds. Mafia is not a type of game that you play for hours and hours and yet every chapter is the repetition of the previous one. Looking for a game like that, you may find this too short or limited.
No vote less than ten will satisfy me about this one.
