The Outsider (2018)
Moody, gritty and absorbing
I watch a lot of movies, I mean, like a lot of movies. Most movies are awful, summer watchable, some are good, some are great and some are amazing. This is a good movie, which is saying a lot when compared with the massive amount of trash floating out there, especially with so many streaming services nowadays. I like movies that transport me into another world, and this one does it for me. The writing and dialogue are excellent, with no cringe-worthy scenes. The acting is superb, even if it's not easy to sympathize with Leto's character. The cinematography is serviceable, and even striking in some scenes. This is a great late night quiet yakuza gangster take. Watch it.
Der Mann aus dem Eis (2017)
Ancient Story of Humanity
I love when movies are set in history, and done well, and Iceman does not disappoint. This is an ancient tale of humanity, with very little dialogue that focuses on visual story telling. It's a revenge story, set in Neolithic Europe. It successfully transports you to a long forgotten time of small clans with little interaction with one another. The historically accurate detail and gorgeous landscape shots are woven together artfully throughout emotional drama and brutal violence. If you enjoy movies like The Quest for Fire, Apocalypto, and even The Revenant you will no doubt enjoy this film also.
Perry Mason (2020)
Excellent detective noir, plus courtroom drama
This is an excellent entry into the detective noir genre. Don't walk into this with any preconceived notions, simply allow yourself to be immersed into its dark and gritty world. You will be rewarded with a multifaceted story, rich with complex characters and deep subplots. Dive in, it's well worth it. I wish there was more.
Villain (2020)
This rating seems too low, just watch the movie.
I don't write many reviews, but I watch a lot of films. This is a solid film, from start to finish. Have crime tragedies been done before? Of course, but this one is good. Fairbrass is moving as the strong, regretful criminal getting long in the tooth. I won't give it all away, but it's worthy of your time, for get the low rating.
The Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day (2009)
If you like wasting time, this ones for you
I love all types of movies. I have a special place in my heart for movies as far apart as Bloodsport and Leaving Las Vegas, but this movie.... ranks at the all time bottom of the list.
I think the original Boondock Saints is fun film with lots of great acting and quirky characters. Willem Dafoe's performance was amazing, he really secured a place at the table of great character actors with this role. The second Saints however, is just plain garbage. Imagine if you will, all the worst clichés you have ever seen in a movie. Now string them all together like a pale skin on top of the reputation of a ten year old great movie. THAT is what this movie is. Within the first five minutes of this movie I began to suspect this would be a nightmare. The bad acting and ridiculous scenarios were painful to watch. If you want to waste a night watching this movie, well, you'll regret it. And by the way, who in their right freaking mind is giving this piece of crap more than one star? There should be some sort of IQ test for registration on IMDb.
