Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire (2024)
This was better than expected and I had high expectations
I came into this with high expectations and was not disappointed. Godzilla and Kong movies have a pattern where they take turns as the lead if you keep that in mind you will love this movie.there are several Kaiju battles and all are great. The human part of this movie we important because it ties in a couple of the past movies and sets the stage for future films. I also want to mention that in the Japanese Godzilla films, Godzilla was caused by nuclear bombs dropped by the Americans on Japan. In the Americans canon like this one there is an ancient history with all the kaiju you can't mix the two or you just find fault in everything. As expected lip, smack the two main kaiju Kong and Godzilla are both bigger than they were in the last movie and with the addition of Mothra vamped and looking pretty amazing I was pleasantly pleased and that's not saying there ain't other Kaju but watch the film so you can enjoy those too.
Gojira -1.0 (2023)
Best Godzilla with a solid storyline
Saw Godzilla Minus One yesterday and it was excellent. It was a prequel to the original 1954 Godzilla movie and done in the same plot style. Yup it had a plot. The creature Godzilla was amazing and the audience actually gasped during a couple of the destruction scenes. Seeing Godzilla's "origin" story was great. The Godzilla music was present in all the right places too. The classic roar was missing, but I literally did not realize that untill the end of the movie, I suspect that if there is any negative reviews on this movie, it's going to be because it was in Japanese and had subtitles but I never felt lost Reay the subtitles and following the film.
Wish (2023)
This is a really great Disney film
Tonight was family movie night and we all went to see Disney's Wish. No spoilers here but this was a truly great movie. I have seen some people complain about this film for ridiculous reasons and that is what any complaints about this movie are, ridiculou . The film was full of 100 years of nods to all of Disney's animation styles as well as the films. The characters were adorable and all need to be plush characters. The story itself was solid and had a classic Disney style. The music was excellent, you could hear the audience singing along with the movie and the soundtrack rivaled Encanto too!
Kraa! The Sea Monster (1998)
Kraa-tastic film
Read in the voice of Stephan from SNL. This kaiju monster movie has everything. A buff kaiju with big teeth and no neck, a small good guy gooey turtle alien with an Italian accent, a Skeletor ordered off Temu, and a biker wearing a Farrah Fawcett wig. The city of empty buildings is leveled as the good aliens I think from Galaxy Quest, try to take out Kraa by hitting him with the Death Star they got off Wish. The men in black are all here for the party with their assorted types of facial hair. You will gasp as they attempt to take Kraa out with the middle launcher they built with an erector set. The one crew member tries to stop Kraa with her migraine power while the other crew member pressed the grommets on Gene Simmons belt. The resulting ray beam hits Kraa right in the nipple. They definitely set it up for a sequel. I hope they make 10 more movies like this. I probably won't watch any of them, but I hope they make them. Only complaint was that we kept waiting for it to become a porno but that never happened.
Cocaine Bear (2023)
Exactly what I expected, gory and funny
Just saw Cocaine Bear and it was hilarious. Gory yes but the kind you laugh at the entire time. If you go expecting some deep plot you will be disappointed. The story was good but it is not Titanic. It's a bear and cocaine and exactly what your mind is picturing right now. This movie is in that same category as Sharknado and Piranha 3D just silly gory fun.
The entire theater laughed the entire time, mixed with a lot of oh no's and screams. The CGI was pretty darn good and no CGI bears were hurt in the making of this movie.
Excellent cast and directed by Elizabeth Banks. I give it 10 out of 10 kilos.
Bros (2022)
Great gay romantic comedy
Unlike a lot of these other reviewers I actually saw the movie. I also want to note it was two hours not ninety minutes and the theater was packed so that right there tell you they were just trying to down rate the film.
As for how the film was, it was hilarious lots of funny moments and although there were a few that straight folks might not get but they didn't lay into those and as a whole anyone that is not a homophobe will enjoy it. Lots of shirtless guys as you would expect and some same sex kissing but it fit the story that was very well written. The story also had just enough surprises that you could not guess where it was going.
Huluween Dragstravaganza (2022)
Cute and campy
Unlike some of these other reviews I actually watched ithis show and know what network it was aired on. This is a light hearted campy Halloween party with some of the best of drag. Silly dad type jokes and one liners. I highly recommend it if you appreciate drag, like to laugh, and are not traumatized by the Rocky Horror Picture Show. There is a number that is a little bit more adult horror based but it's not something that will send you to therapy.
One of the best things about this is that it taps into drag personalities from all over the drag entrainment spectrum. The musical numbers are catchy and camp. The drag itself is as you would expect from this stellar cast A+.
