Somewhere (2010)

that's not funny

Dr Director, You just wasted over 2 hours of my life, and I want it back! I've been a keep supporter of many types of films for decades. I am open-minded and welcome different types of story telling. I also worked in the industry full time for many, many years. To be blunt, this project is the biggest joke I've ever endured. The fact that you also wasted the time of the cast and crew, let alone the $ money it took to make is obscene. Please go to film school and screw around with other people's time and money. If you seriously think that we should be interested in, or feel anything for any of these characters, then it's time to cut up your credit cards and go out, travel and live life. There are a million beautiful stories of passion, love, loss and life to be told. You don't have to resort to such pointless, self indulgent subjects and characters. Shame on you for taking yourself and this project so seriously.

I value my leisure time, and would rather watch paint dry than spend over 2 hours hoping that you can construct something of value with the resources at your disposal. It is a big, complicated and compelling world out there and the fact that this is what satisfies your ego indicates that you really don't have a clue about any of it.

An embarrassing and pathetic attempt at creating content.

The worst cinematic experience of my 54 years.

ReGeneration (2010)
Excellent
10 July 2012
So many great minds, so many different points of view and things to consider. So great to keep all these things in mind and try to stay aware of how the world is changing, and perhaps what we can do to affect that.

Although most of these 'state of things' dox are a bit depressing, it never hurts to hear words of inspiration and be reminded of our own power.

Another great wake up call looking at how apathetic we all are, and the differences in the direction the world is in, than just a few decades ago.

Worth a view.

One Fall (2016)

really lacking
8 April 2012
Some of the acting was quite good, the directing was overall - weak. I found the story and the film to be self important and really lacking in originality (for the type of film that has only that to offer).

The music was saccharin and most of the scenes were over lit, creating something that just screams: TV production, trying to be a serious film.

I see that the lead actor also wrote and directed this project. Not surprising.

The actor has charisma, no doubt, but as a director, his work is very homogenized and predictable.

I had big hopes for this film after finding it listed on iTunes. Really disappointing to pay the same for this film as a film by Oliver Stone, One of the Scotts or any of a list of A list pros.

Give this one a miss. My teeth are still aching.

I'm not even going to begin to delve into the imperfections in the production here. Not worth the time.

Thumbs way down.

WARNING: This is NOT Sci-Fi, it's a boring war flick.
30 June 2011
What an enormous disappointment! Almost every frame is of a marine firing a weapon against some hostile force. Lots of testosterone and machismo, but a very weak plot.

REALLY boring. One cliché line of patriotic dialogue after another. Very predictable, unoriginal and uninteresting.

It's my guess that the US military funded this film as a subversive recruitment vehicle, because the last decade has seen the US spend billions of dollars every year, on wars that some of the country don't even support. The Aliens seem like an ideal enemy, because everyone should agree that they're bad and dangerous.

More flag-waving than I've ever had to endure. If you are looking for Sci-Fi or a true invasion movie, keep looking.

Cargo (2009)

Spectacular • powerful • beautiful • terrifying

I'm so glad that I overlooked some of the poor responses posted about this film and rented it.

I found it absolutely riveting - and beautiful.

The first few minutes recall aspects of the BladeRunner modern cityscape - but on steroids, with the aid of modern day visual effects. The plot is interesting and unfolds nicely keeping your interest and attention. No big stars, no truly stellar performances, but the story line is solid and I was so taken in by it, that I'm going to watch it again tonight, with someone else who's not yet seen it. Some mesmerizing visuals and scenarios. The lighting is particularly strong, creating great ambiance and dramatic effect, without drawing too much attention to itself. This movie is about human frailty, various emotions and connections, about the work we do in order to follow our dreams. It also relates feelings of being small, powerless, and becoming disconnected because of technology - assessing trust in others and in the systems which dominate our lives, searching for 'truth' and authentic experiences...

A very unconventional melding of ideas which for me, worked on many different layers.

Highly worth a trip for any Sci-Fi lover.

SICK and pointless.
24 October 2010
What kind of sicko writes ship like this???? I mean REALLY? Who produces, directs, shoots, acts, and edits movies like this? Some people have spent weeks or months of their lives working on this dark, disturbing movie - which really has NO redeeming qualities. My wife and I kept thinking that at some point, something would happen that would make it interesting or worth watching, but it just made us uncomfortable and sick all the way through.

One line at the end of the movie was put in to make us feel like there was some big plot twist or revelation, but in reality, the whole movie was disgusting.

There's plenty of unfortunate, unavoidable violence and drama in the world without spending millions making movies with the intention of creating tension and suspense.

Grow up Hollywood.

Don't waste your time or mind walking down through this darkness. It's pointless and hopeless.

Probably the most pointless film in history.
