A Mixed Bag of Thrills and Lulls
11 December 2023
Squid Game: The Challenge, inspired by the gripping Korean TV series, offers a unique take on reality competition. What sets it apart is its diverse cast, ensuring that the spotlight isn't monopolized by a select few. While the show initially piqued my interest, it left me with a mixed bag of emotions.

One commendable aspect of the series is its refusal to center solely on a handful of participants. The ensemble cast brings a variety of personalities to the forefront, making it engaging and unpredictable.

However, my enthusiasm waned during certain game sequences. Some lacked the intensity that initially drew me into the series. The waiting periods between the action became tedious, particularly in the final episode. The pacing seemed off, and it diluted the overall excitement that the show promised.

Speaking of the finale, there was a moment where a participant checked their balance at an ATM machine using their participant number as a PIN. While this was likely added for dramatic effect, it raises concerns about cybersecurity. Makers should consider the impact of such scenes, as they can influence viewers' behavior. Encouraging good cybersecurity practices rather than compromising realism for a captivating shot would be a step in the right direction.

Despite these drawbacks, Squid Game: The Challenge retains the essence of its source material, offering a glimpse into the human psyche under pressure. With a bit more fine-tuning, particularly in the pacing and attention to small yet crucial details, the show has the potential to secure a solid spot in the realm of reality competitions.

Heart vs Heart: Human with AI vs Human who want AI
16 August 2023
This movie has enough action sequences to keep you on the edge of your seats. It also includes subtle humour and contradictions which can make you smile. The storyline is good, especially in the first half.

Action movies with female protagonists are rare, and this one sure does justice to the genre. It almost feels like a Mission Impossible movie, and the background music makes it even better.

If you like action thrillers, you should definitely like this movie. Make sure you use a good audio system with surround sound and effects. I would have watched this in a movie theatre if it got released in the ones near my location.

Mostly for faint hearts & introverts
14 August 2023
You may mostly enjoy this drama if you have ever been a hopeless romantic with the craziness level of at least 8 out of 10. It will probably make you cry a lot or feel that pain again which you may have forgotten.

I would suggest watching during a weekend or when you have enough time to binge watch the series. It gets heavier and heavier, so make sure you are prepared for it.

Avoid watching this if you were expecting a feel god romantic comedy. It mostly made me feel sad and depressed, but not all dramas can do that either; so it could still be something worth experiencing. Depends on your taste.

It could have been fewer episodes as I started loosing the emotional connect after episode 12. But if you watch 12 episodes, you may as well watch all of them.

A must watch for emotional fools
27 November 2021
I am an emotional fool sometimes and many people are at certain points in their lives. I enjoyed this movie a lot because I could personally relate to both the male characters Jaggi (Sunny Kaushal) and Gautam (Mohit Raina). Many millennials in India have grown up watching movies like DDLJ; which I think plants the seed of overzealous love; which sometimes meets the definition of being mad and thus called madly in love.

Shiddat will take you for a roller coaster ride if you accept the characters with an open mind and don't try to scrutinize each of their actions. The storyline worked perfectly for me and the contrast between a mature yet egoistic husband and a happy go lucky boy in love has been showcased very well. There are some surprises for you in the movie so I won't write details about the story here. I would highly recommend this movie to my family and friends.

It could make you smile, watching Jaggi go that extra mile.

It could make you laugh, and give high fives to your better halves.

It could make you tense, as you hold hands while wishing for a happy end.

It could make you feel like getting a breath of air after being underwater for too long.

It could make you cry and let your heart drop!

In an age of Tinder and TikTok where instant gratification is often the highest priority; Shiddat makes you rethink your priorities in life especially if you have been in love; "madly".

Don't underestimate Shamitabh
13 February 2015
Warning: Spoilers
Don't underestimate this movie as another Bhoothnath flick. The story is good, acting is better and Amitabh Bachchan is the best. This movie made me laugh and enjoy several moments that includes sarcasm and egoistic remarks shared between Dhanush and Amitabh. Some things did fall apart for me like the lessons given by Akshara in a primary school and the chemistry between Dhanush and Akshara. But I guess it's OK as per Bollywood standards. What I liked though, is that the movie also had an important appeal with it which makes us think about people who work behind the scenes and never get the recognition. The fact that you will see the names of the corresponding valets in the credits at end, establishes this further.

It also explains how ego can hurt us all if not controlled at the right time. Some of the sequences were simply excellent and succeeded in sparking the targeted emotions. The theme set for Dhanush as a die-hard movie fan, plays an important role in justifying some of his extreme actions. The child like playfulness, the fun loving personalities and the human bonding is portrayed very well.

I also felt that what Dhanush was trying throughout the movie while acting as dumb, Amit Ji pulled off right at the end with much more perfection.

Not just a chick flick
21 September 2014
I watched this movie not just because my wife wanted to watch it, but also because it is a Disney Production. This fairytale has enough punches and turns to keep you interested and aligned with the story. It lives up to the expectations of audience by including a number of activities and events that are known to all of us. For instance, some of the hobbies and postures used by the protagonists are funny yet common.

I liked the set up and all the actors played their characters well. The USP of this movie for me is the fact that it connects with you in no time and then maintains it till the end.

Found it pleasant
20 April 2014
If you have ever been in a situation where it get's difficult for you to understand your relatives, than you will be able to connect with the movie very easily.

The actors have performed a good role in bringing the characters to life. Even though I had read the book, I enjoyed the scenes as the visuals were able to keep me interested.

This movie showcases a number of habits and rituals followed in the 2 different states of India. From state of mind to expectations, from loudness to proficiency in English language, differences are many but despite of all that, can two people of different origin be together?

Watch this movie to learn more.

Beyond the law
20 April 2014
There are various unproved theories about the way government works, the way MNCs work and the way terrorism works.

Showcasing another example of a setup where government and private agencies create a conundrum to keep the civilians from learning the truth; this movie starts with a bang and ends with a light note.

For the love of his child, the detective father will go by all means to find not just the killer but the reason for her death.

People often create problems for others, or become a means of bringing pain to them. Unless they feel that pain by themselves, they won't understand the agony and thus they can't be expected to be humane.

Watch this movie to learn a tale of a loving father who unravels the secrets of a dangerous corporation.

The inside story.
20 April 2014
We often see the news on Television telling us about the situation in Africa. But how many of us can actually explain why this is happening? Why a certain group of people are being exploited again and again? Why so many people have to leave their homes and move to refugee camps.

This movie gives you a good look at the details and tells you a story that is often ignored. It revolves around a soldier cum smuggler who has learned his way around the governments, businessmen, journalists and the rebels. He would say and do anything to get the things done his way. Coming from a background that made his heart a stone, this man can hunt, kill, persuade and convince.

Can something really change his heart? Can he feel the love that represents human compassion? Can he enjoy the beauty of nature and freedom in it's true sense?

Do watch this movie to learn the inside story.

Jack Reacher (2012)

A good investigation takes different perspectives
20 April 2014
Starting with a professional shoot by a sniper, this movie revolves around an ex-army man Jack Reacher.

It lets you look at both the ends of the story and allows you to figure out the things slowly. There is reference made to the methods followed in the army and how they are quite different from that of the police. At the same time, it also refers to the hardships faced by soldiers and the effects of rigorous training on their lives.

It also makes you think about "freedom" and its meaning. Even if you are living in a democracy, can you be called "FREE"? How many of us are really free from debt, anxiety, stress, fear, failure, indignity and betrayal? Why do we have to keep trying to solve this conundrum?

Well, if you like movies that may exercise your brain a little, than go for this one. It also involves some good action sequences. Though they don't last long as it is often a soldier against a hooligan.

Unravel the thread
18 April 2014
Lies are what makes life complex.

In this case, the complexity is enough for your to think hard and think straight while you try to guess what's coming up next. The movie takes you through different stages of emotions. From the guilt of killing a man who came to you for rescue, to the courage of putting your life on risk for someone you hardly know.

It has got some scenes that will connect with you right away and help you understand the spy world further. For instance planting of a spy can be done anywhere ranging from a dining table to a terrorist station.

DiCaprio has given a magnificent performance and has been natural through out. The thwarting and frustration demonstrated by him, makes you feel the warmth of the situation.

Go watch this one, if you are in for lies.

What is primacy?
18 April 2014
This movie made me think about the primacy of things that we deem so important, and relations that we often take for granted.

Are we merely living to generate assets and maintain relations? Do we have the liberty to point at someone and say, "He is not normal!"? Are we living with compassion or do we get frustrated over little things? Do we have enough patience to listen to our loved ones? When everything is lost and we are left with nothing, is it really the end of it?

Watch this movie and you may be able to answer these for yourself.

"Making friends is not always easy, but the ones that you have, make sure that you can trust them with your heart." "Maintaining relations requires revisions; so make the things straight as many times as it is required." "Understand the difference between giving up and letting go!"

Do you hide your love?
17 April 2014
Scientists have proved that our brain creates new cells whenever we create a memory. This movie will tell you everything in the beginning but will keep you on your toes up till the end. If you already knew what is going to happen tomorrow, would you try changing some things; or would you not play with your fate and just let it be?

It not only makes you think about your deja vu experiences but also leads your mind in the direction of love. The love that we seldom express and try to keep hidden.

After watching this movie, you are certainly going to understand love more. You may or may have not fallen in romantic love, but the love for your parents, friends or even a class-mate can be felt and expressed better if you grasp this movie in the right manner.

Go tell your loved ones what they mean to you.

Simple yet educational family drama
17 April 2014
This movie has depicted the lifestyle of a lower middle class Indian family in the most appropriate and comical way.

Teachers do not get as much salary as engineers or doctors, but they shape the future because they decide what our coming generation is going to be like. Of course with the increasing popularity of massive open online courses, a teacher's relation with his students on a personal level is decreasing day by day. But that does not mean, that teachers are not going to be important. Something very similar to this is proved in this movie.

It showcases a lot of things that can go wrong in a family. From quarrels to sulks, from shouts to tears, from over-confidence to regret, you will get to experience almost all the emotions.

Go enjoy these little moments of joy!

Action packed
17 April 2014
If you like action packed movies, there is a lot in store for you.

Jason has impressed us with his exceptional martial arts display and thus of course the story revolves around his physical and mental abilities. This movie sets an example by showcasing that a single man can change the whole game if he gets messed up.

We all understand the pain of losing our love or at least the feeling or fear of losing the ones that we love. This story is about a person who loses everyone that he loves in this world and then finds a person in a similar situation who is a small girl with exceptional intellectual skills. This deadly combination will give you enough to think about, so go watch this one.

My favorite quote from this movie: "One day at a time"

Happiness is the answer
7 March 2014
I gave this movie a rating of 8/10, because it made me think about things that I once pondered upon but then forgot. In the daily rush of life, we often get so involved with our tasks that we forget what we were aiming at. There comes a point in the lives of most of us, when we are performing mundane tasks just for the sake of it. The best way to learn if this is true, is to sit alone and think; why are you doing this? What was your goal when you started? What all things have changed? Do you think what you are doing is not making you happy? Once you find these answers, you will know what you have to do next and more importantly, what you need to stop doing.

This movie is another form of such a philosophy. If you believe in free spirit, if you were once confident about your life's aim, go watch this movie, and it will help you get back on the right track.

P.S.: Happiness is the answer!

Entertainment based
27 December 2013
Warning: Spoilers
This movie was suggested to me by my friends and after watching it I completely understood the reason behind this. The lack of logic and abundance of gun fire perfectly matched the popular Bollywood style and served to the needs of popcorn audience.

Though there were many instances when the above lines were proved, to quote one, "If they knew that the white house has been compromised by someone from inside, why would they suggest a secret escape route which was certainly not a secret to the insider? Do they really think that it was a random attack without any plans and the attackers wouldn't have thought this through?"

But if we keep the logic aside and ignore the details, this movie can be considered as an entertaining flick. It contained enough action to keep me awake even after mid night and showcased various nice lines with a touch of valor and bravery. Humor was also mashed up quite well wherever required and the sense of patriotism was instilled at some points.

I would recommend this movie to you if you can watch an action flick without using the stronger side of your brain.

Vanilla Sky (2001)
You can't run away from reality
21 December 2010
Warning: Spoilers
Vanilla Sky revolves around a man who goes through an accident (which disfigures his face) and opts for an option called Lucid Dream, because of which his body is preserved at very low temperature while he continues to dream and live what he wanted. Eventually it came out to be a nightmare as he confuses the two women in his life, the one he shared bed with who was responsible for the accident and the one he truly loved. He was finally given an option to choose between a dream better than this one or go back to reality. After having a last moment with his love he decides to choose reality.

It made me think hard and I have to admit that it is having a very effective theme.

Good deeds are necessary
21 December 2010
Warning: Spoilers
There are a few movies, which can make you change the way you think about this world. One among those is "Pay it forward". This movie starts off with a very basic idea, "what does this world expect from you?" That is actually a question asked by a social science teacher to his 6th grade students, and an 11 year old kid answers innocently, "nothing"! Well, that's what this movie is about. Before cursing this world you are living in, you just need to think once, "What have you done for it?"

The kid comes up with a revolutionary idea called, 'Pay it forward' according to which he helps three persons in doing something they are not able to do. In this materialistic world, nobody expects anything even from their relatives. However, this movie tells you about the good deeds people have been doing for complete strangers.

Its all about drugs
21 December 2010
Warning: Spoilers
This movie was recommended to me by my friend. The story line was good and the music was lovely. The direction was superb at some moments.

I was bit annoyed with the excessive repetition even though they might be necessary for the movie to build up a good background.

The mother's role emotionally touching, it tells us what we do to our parents when they get old and how they must feel when they are left alone.

Drug addiction is shown in a very good manner, one can learn a lot from this movie.

Stay away from Drugs...!

Technology is good
21 December 2010
Warning: Spoilers
Was expecting a lot from this movie, as I loved the entertaining first movie that came before it(Iron man). Robert Downey was as good as ever, I couldn't take my eyes off Scarlett Johansson. She is bold and beautiful. I would suggest you all to watch "Iron Man" (part1) before laying your hands on this sequel.

These movies will always be loved by engineers. And that's one of the reasons I love them. The technology is not only used but it is also tried to explain the reason behind it. This makes it look less like a fiction.

The Iron man movies tells you about how a single man can turn it all around by using his mind. The utmost intelligence is unparalleled and can't be defeated by the highest of all odds.

Scarface (1983)

You need to have guts!
21 December 2010
Warning: Spoilers
When I watched Scarface, I got greatly influenced by it. The Great Al Pacino, who is admired by the Bollywood king Amitabh Bachan himself became my role model. His style and acting just carried me away.

The character Al Pacino played is just remarkable and filled with confidence and wrath. Originating from nix he came out to become the most powerful man. He got what he wanted and never looked back. I learned a lot from this character. And all I would write here is: "All that I came into this world with are my balls and my words"

Yes, we should live up to our words and always speak the truth. And success will be on our side. I would suggest you to watch this movie as soon as you can.
