For the Bible Tells Me So (2007)
From a New Testament Perspective
This documentary is about a few different families who have had to deal with the realities of their children who were/are living an alternative lifestyle.
Science has revealed that a small percentage of the populace has the gene that could cause one to have a propensity towards an alternative lifestyle. This is why, for example, some males will act somewhat feminine. These are the people who, more so than others, will deal with an attraction towards the same gender. Does this mean that they are bound to be gay or that they should give in to their propensities. Absolutely NOT.
However, all of us have to fight temptations of various vices. People living an alternative lifestyle are not the only ones who have issues. Read Romans 1:16-32 for a better understanding about living a life of faith vs. a life without it. Also, John 3:16 which speaks about God's love.
Finally, no one should be cruel or mean to any human being, (except if you need to defend yourself physically). The Bible teaches us to love and pray for one another. However, we do no one a service by pretending something is right when we know that it is not.
I give a lot of credit to the African American family in this documentary. You can see that they love their daughter in spite of her alternative lifestyle. However, they make it very clear that the Bible teaches against such a lifestyle.
God Bless them for standing up for the truth in love, which will ultimately bring the freedom others so desperately need in these days we are living in.
I Just Wanted to Be Somebody (2007)
Nothing Wrong With What She Did
The film was somewhat ambiguous. While the filming of Anita (except the pie incident) showed nice pictures of Anita, the letter being read during the filming is intended to discredit her.
First of all, she did not do anything wrong. She simply took a stance against the openly "alternative life style" that the gay movement wanted to propagate. Hence, this was no "Martin Luther King" peaceful civil movement she was opposing.
Lastly, had Anita today done what she did in the late 70's, she would have had a lot more support from the conservative medias which we enjoy today. Anita did not have the support which a lot of conservatives have and enjoy today, and yet she took a stance and allowed the chips to fall where they did.
Anita Bryant is one of my heroes. I believe she has helped to pave the way for others to stand up for what is right no matter the cost. She has gained more than what she has ever lost. Today she is a fulfilled Wife, Mother, Grandmother, friend and mentor. Her best years, and life after, is still ahead of her.
So then, if one is in to ambiguity, than one may want to see this film. As I wrote earlier, nice footage of her; not so nice of a letter being read during the filming.
Invisible Child (1999)
A Gentle and Compassionate Movie
First off, it should be noted that this is NOT A LIVE DOCUMENTARY! It appears that it is a story about a woman who was venturing into madness, but then recovers. Why did she recover? Possibly because she began to realize the pain she was causing her family; and possibly because an outsider (the nanny) had entered the picture and somehow this triggered Mrs. Beeman towards reality. One really does not know why or how she recovered, but she does.
The plot involves a family of four, an imaginary child, and a nanny. The story focuses on the heartbreak of mental illness. A woman (The wife and mother of the movie) believes she has three children, when in reality, she only has two. Her husband, two children, and eventually a nanny, pretend along with her. The make-believe child is called "Maggie." Mrs. Beeman (the wife and mother of this story) has a gentle and kind personality so this may be the reason why others in the family simply go along with her and act as though it is true concerning a third child.
Everyone one of the actors and and actresses gives a heartfelt performance, especially Rita Wilson (the woman with the illness) and "Doc."
If one is looking for a tender and heartfelt movie with a good ending, they may want to try watching this movie. It will bring out the compassionate side of some who feel the pain of others, and best of all, it has a good ending.
