Just another exercise in style writing
This movie from Paul Currie is what I consider an exercise in style. You look at it and see: wow, nice cinematography, decent music, neat looking actors. But after seeking for a plot you see a poorly written script, that hooks on a single event, repeated again and again for the whole movie. Quite annoying.
Spoiler below
To complete the arch of things I didn't like, the movie closes the plot in a very trivial and foregone manner.
Kedi (2016)
Kedi: A documentary about Turkish cats
Kedi made me discover how deep is the cat culture in Turkey. Unlike other places, in Turkey cats and humans live in the same place at the same level. This Ceyda Torun's documentary is well accompanied by the photography of Charlie Wuppermann and Alp Korfali. People explaining their relationships with cats, newborns or longtime lost are the main component of this documentary, after cats, of course.
Wonder Woman (2017)
Childish writing
Wonder Woman is just another Zack Snyder attempt to bring on cinemas a childish script made by DC.
Hear me out, wonder woman comics character is awesome, but this movie is all about FX and showing how beauty Gal Gadot is.
The movie starts with a young Diana who lives in the Amazon island, protecting people. We'll discover that she is a demi-god but there is no true discovery of that sentence. Only "hey, my mother made me out of clay and Zeus gave me life".
When she encounters the human world for the first time there are a lot of contradictions between her actions. Sometimes she seems to be a whole new baby in the world, willing to discover it. Sometimes she seems to be living within it since always.
Let's skip to the enemy: an awful David Thewlis that gives nothing to the movie, that's truly one of the worst villains ever. All that even happens with this villain is the final fight with it.
There are a lot of obnoxious GFX works in this movie. Every jump in action scenes about WW is made in a way that you feel the GFX and feel bad for it. Even slight dodges are done with GFX.
DC is trying in the worst way to copy what Marvel did 10+ years ago, with the technology of today.
Tossing money at the bin is what the studio is truly doing.
Collateral Beauty (2016)
Great premise, disastrous fruition
Add some Christmas clumsiness, the unsuitability to talk about a sensitive theme. Now, try to pump everything up with a very starry cast, which adds exactly nothing to the movie. This is the representation of Collateral Beauty. Great premises, disastrous fruition until you happen to watch the movie. The attempt to put sentiment on this movie is done in the most goofy way, resulting in an almost no feeling monster movie.
The Shawshank Redemption (1994)
A movie about patience and loyalty
Leading their roles, Freeman and Robbins are truly outstanding.
This engagingly, with good heart and simple movie will entertain you marvelously.
