The first GOOD film in this franchise in YEARS!
21 February 2022
Warning: Spoilers
After what seemed like an eternity for this to be released, I have to admit I wasn't expecting much. The last film I enjoyed in this franchise was The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning (2006). I could not stand the 2013 reboot at all and the Leatherface prequel in 2017 wasn't much better. So as I stated, I had low expectations.

This film exceeded them in almost every way. I didn't hate these main characters. They didn't feel like they were just here to die, even though it's pretty obvious that the majority of them are. They tried to do something different with the plot that didn't retcon the original and still builds upon it. The gore did not disappoint; this film is BRUTAL. Leatherface hasn't felt this menacing in a long time. The characters try to fight and do the smart thing more times than not and I was very pleased with that. There were some very good moments of tension in here that kept me guessing what would happen next. The plot, at least for me, wasn't predictable from beginning to end and that left me very satisfied.

My only complaints after one viewing -

It's pretty obvious that they were influenced to bring Sally Hardesty back because of Halloween (2018). But man, did they do her DIRTY! She didn't have much character work to do throughout the film and came off a bit static, as she only had maybe a little over 10 minutes of screen time, but I still cared for her deeply. Her death scene left me feeling disjointed... not because I was angry that she died, but it felt a little disrespectful. I didn't know if I was expecting her to survive or not, but I don't think it was a proper sendoff. It definitely could have been worse, though. Had the late Marilyn Burns still been with us and reprised the role herself, I may feel differently about this. It would have felt much more iconic. Olwen Fouéré does a phenomenal job with the material she was given, however. Mad props to her for still bringing the role to life. Also, I wish that Dante, Ruth, Richter, and Catherine had been fleshed out a little bit more, because this whole cast gave some great performances! I felt bad for characters when they died, especially Ruth. Had this film been 15-20 minutes longer, there could definitely have been some more characterization.

I do recommend this film to fans of the franchise. I haven't had this much fun in a chainsaw film in almost 16 years. Give it a watch!

Watch the trailer instead. It's better.
8 May 2021
Have you ever had an experience where you were so unbelievably excited to see a horror film that the trailer looked so promising for? If so, did that trailer give away the entire film, leaving everything predictable and expected? That's what happened with this film for me.

The entire film was marketed under the illusion that paranormal events are products of the human mind and ghosts are only real because we believe in them. If you believe it is real, it can kill you. It was an interesting theory that really pulled me in for the ride. But it was all a ploy to get my money I guess, because these things just happened to these people whether they believed in it or not. It's similar to so many other horror films we've seen before: someone plays with a ghost/spirit and it latches onto them haunting everyone around them and spreading. We've seen it done before, and we've seen it done better.

It's unfortunate that the likes of Ashley Greene, whom I find to be a fine and somewhat underrated actress, Sebastian Stan, and Tom Felton wasted on this snooze fest of a movie. The locations were great, the photography is decent, and the score is interesting. The script is awful. It's just not scary... at all.

Skip this one unless you're a diehard fan of one of the 3 big cast members, because there really isn't anything else here.

The Heat (I) (2013)
10/10
Almost Wet Myself I Laughed So Hard, So Funny
29 June 2013
I do not even know where to start with this movie. I attended on opening day with my cousins and the theater was packed. I went with high expectations, and honestly, I was not disappointed one bit. This film contains the most hilarious and lively jokes I have ever witnessed in any movie. Melissa McCarthy is definitely worthy of a comedy crown with her role. The screenplay was brilliantly written from beginning to end. Do not go into the theater with a low tolerance for jokes, because you will quickly leap out of your seat. For anyone who is looking for an original, highly enjoyable, and fresh comedy flick, The Heat will satisfy in every aspect. I am definitely purchasing the hopefully unrated DVD the day it becomes available, and I really look forward to seeing a sequel and possible series. I can honestly say that this was the most hilarious film I have ever seen. And by the sound of the rest of the audience, many of them would possibly agree. Definitely a solid 10/10.

Scream (1996)

The perfect movie to SCREAM about!!!
29 November 2011
This movie is truly an American horror classic, and I can guarantee that it will continue to be such for decades to come. The movie is a landmark in film making, considering the fact that it redefined and entire film genre! Scream is smart, funny, and suspenseful all at the same time, which gives the movie the perfect taste for anyone who wants to see a scary and satisfying horror sensation. I remember being so terrified by the Scream mask when I was little. I think I first saw the mask on TV when I was 2 and I was terrified of it, and I nearly peed my pants when I first watched the movie at the age of 6. Scream is the scariest movie that I have ever seen, and along with that, it is the best movie that I have ever seen. It has characters that are easy to connect with and love, especially Sidney Prescott. It is a very enjoyable movie, along with the other 3 in the series so far. I recommend this movie to everyone. It is a true horror phenomenon!
