Pyaar Prema Kaadhal (2018)
Total waste of time
This is down-right one of the worst Tamil movie I have seen in my life. Firstly it does not deserve even a bit of the appreciation it gets. It is not at all anything of what it is being advertised to be. It's not a story of love. It's just a two people who are facing a whole lot of commitment issues and are at the sexual prime trying to satisfy their physical needs while they are pressurized by their parents to get into a serious marriage relationships. The director does not have any guts to provide solution to the issues the lead character faces. His parents want him to get married to a girl of their choice, he loves a girl with whom he works with, the girl is not ready for any sort of stable relationship. So, what does he do ? He gets the boy make a compromise and he marries a girl his parents find for him. After a 3 years gap, within which, the Girl realizes his love for him during his absence and finds out that the boy had divorced his wife and now single and available. Now they get together. I mean what bullshit. It all appears to be like a made up bs.
Veedu (1988)
A masterpiece artwork
I desperately wanted to watch this movie as soon as I can because I saw in one of the very last interviews of Director Balu Mahendra sir's after the release of his "Thalaimuraigaal", he said and I quote - " In my entire career, I only made 3 movies completely according to my desire. There were Sandhya Ragam, Veedu and Thalaimuraigal. The rest all had compromises that I had to make for Kodambakkam (referring to the commercial aspects)"
So, as soon as I watched the movie I write this review.
This movie spells Balu Mahendra in every aspects and in every single emotion of its. Watching this film is like knowing who Balu Mahendra is.
1) If you tell him how well he captures images in the available 'Natural Light', he would immediately stop you and say - "You call it Natural Light, I call it The God's Light. What better light am I going to make than what the almighty throws on us in abundance ?" This movie has entirely been captured with the God's Light itself in a manner which the God himself might be astonished to know can create.
2) The story as he always says, is the simplest one ever. There isn't even the slightest of complications in narrative to elaborate. It is just about a middle class woman who has set out to build a house for herself.
3) Realism. This movie could feel very much like something that could have happened to you.
4) Ilayaraja sir's music. I must agree, after being a born A.R.Rahman fan, I finally begin to understand and develop a liking towards Raja Sir's music.
A lot can be told. But it is better you watch and know for yourself.
Manithan (2016)
A good entertainer for all.
This is essentially a well made remake of the original Hindi version of Jolly LLB. This movie has been very well made to suit well for the Tamil audience better and appeal to mass crowd. Nevertheless it also manages to scrape of good marks in terms of being a good film.
The core story is closely based on a real life incident - " 1999 Delhi Hit and Run Case " involving a person named Sanjeev Nanda, son a rich Industrialist Suresh Nanda ran over and killing many.
The story has slightly been modified and has been made into a fine script to suit the silver screen.
The performances of Radha Ravi as the Judge and Prakash Raj as the Lawyer are simply brilliant. Udhayanidhi has made a good attempt to perform, but he requires a to put a lot more efforts. Hansika looks beautiful in this movie, providing the moral support needed for the protagonist but other than that she merely remains a set property like most heroines do inn commercial cinema.
This is a definitely a cinema you can watch for some good entertainment.
The Conjuring 2 (2016)
James Wan knows how to scare you.
This movie was way better than it's previous part. Towards the end of the movie, it was on a whole new level.
If you are someone who wishes to watch some quality horror films - not the cheap ones where they use gore deaths to trick you into feeling the horror. Instead James Wan really knows how to scare you and send chills down your spine.
The movie was thoroughly entertaining. THe lead characters Ed Warren (by Patrick Wilson) and Lorraine Warren (by Vera Farmiga) have given a very beautiful performance. The young girl, Janet Hodgson (by Madison Wolfe) needs special mention - her's is yet another extraordinary performance.
Lorraine does not receive anything or is not able to sense any abnormal presence in the place they have been asked to investigate. Not until they find out the real real why she couldn't sense anything - everyone knows the magnitude of the problem ahead of them. Then comes the final showdown. I guarantee you it's gonna a thrilling ride from here on.
If you are thinking whether to watch this movie or not, spend not another moment thinking, just go right ahead and watch.
24 (2016)
A fantastic and perfect Time Travel movie with commercial touch
This film is essentially a commercial movie, nevertheless it has been made with such care that it will also please those who are interested in watching only those movies of high quality.
The movie has handled the time travel genre in a different manner unlike other movies. There is a small difference which the Director Vikram has conveniently chosen to ignore.
The performance of Suryah in the antagonist role is definitely something that requires a special mention. He has really put a great amount of efforts in ensuring the output of that character is good.
There are many "WOW" moments in the movie during the first half of the movie when the protagonist finds out that he has the power to travel in time. The song that comes subsequently in celebration of his control over time has also been extremely well made. A.R.Rahman's music as always does its job brilliantly.
The showdown during the climax is thrilling one and is very fast moving and keeps you on the edge of the seat.
Verdict - Watch it already. Enough said.
Iraivi (2016)
A must watch for real film enthusiasts.
This is one of those rare movies where, the second viewing will reveal many of the hidden clues which point to what is going to happen in the climax of the movie.
The director has handled the movie in such a class manner. This can very well be used as a perfect example movie for those who are interested in writing good scripts.
The story essentially is not a movie about women nor does it speak about feminism. It merely showcases what repercussions do the acts of some careless cause in the lives of the women around them and thereby making us want to give more attention on them in making our life decisions.
This definitely does not look like Direct Karthick Subbaraj's 3rd movie. He seems to have fair a great amount of talent inborn and also executes his ideas in a great manner.
Kushi (2000)
One of the best Rom-Com in Indian Cinema !!
This is definitely be one of my most favorite Rom-Com that I've ever seen till date. The way the story is narrated simply makes the movie one of its kind. This is the second movie for the Director S.J.Suryah and he shows such brilliance in the way he moves the story ahead. It is apparent that the Director's ample knowledge of music has really helped a lot in extracting the best out of the music director Deva. If you compare the music of this movie with any of his earlier works, this would surely stand apart from his album. In fact one would be even surprised to know that Deva scored music for this movie. Even after a long time after watching the movie, its theme music will reverberate in your ears.
The screenplay of this movie is the biggest highlight of this movie. The way the plot moves forward and how the knots are tied and how its finally untied in the climax is what makes this so interesting. This movie is full of such intense emotions which have beautifully brought out by the well written dialogues.
This is also the movie where Vijay and Jyothika have given their best performances in their career. This is also one of the biggest hits of Jyothika in her career and also her debut movie in Tamil. It also made the audience decide that she must stay here for long.
If you are a Tamil cinema fan and you love the Rom-Com genre, then this is a movie that you must never miss.
