Sai de ke · ba lai: Tai yang qi (2011)
reminded me of a bit of black hawk down.
first things first, seediq bale came out in USA today. I'm not sure what version i watched... but it was a 2.5 hour movie without any mention of a second part. anyways throughout the movie, it kept me entertained. It kept me thinking and trying to figure out the back story, who the new characters were and etc. There were bits of the movie that was so ridiculous, it seemed almost comical... though it's not supposed to be but the theater laughed anyways. The movie is presented in the Seediq native tongue and so, translations/subtitles were necessary which kept me from fully enjoying the beauty of the shots of landscape and action / etc. It tells the whole incident and explains everything that happens perfectly. the introduction is sufficient, the building to the climax is smooth, but what i think killed it was the hour or so fighting scene... it made it seem too long and by the end of the movie, i felt as if the whole movie was basically fighting... though that IS what it's based upon, it felt... a bit too much. not that its a bad thing or anything, but all in all, i think it was a great movie... for anyone 14 or above.
The Island (2005)
i really don't get why everyones got negative feedback
what a GREAT and i mean FANTASTIC movie! the storyline was great. morality lessons were all there. To be honest, in the beginning, i thought. are these... actors? why are they so bad? but later i realize that it was just that. just acting. I think its a great lesson to show to a human right's club. i don't know. just a greatttt movie overall. everyone needs to see it. There are quite a few amazing lines in here that make great quotes. I suggest getting people to watch this without even reading the plot line... but if you're on this page its probbably too late for you... there is quite a bit of eyecandy if you're a vehicles person. ignore all the negative feedback and enjoy!
2001: A Space Odyssey (1968)
two hours about special effect and philosophy no real plot line.
what i got out of this film, was a ton of human improvements in the field of technology.... watching this for the first time, i'm barely 18, 2012, i think its amazing that about 44 years ago, video chatting was envisioned. being a photographer, and beginning cinema photographer, 2001 space odyssey sure does make one think "wow... how the heck did they pull that off?" for example, how exactly were the scenes shot? were the animals all animated? was everything animated? the space ships, the everything? how did they enable them to walk upside down? simple observations such as these... its obvious that this is a film about evolution.... when you begin to think about it after it's ended, one message is clear: beware of technology, and if you delve deeper, it will become apparent that kubrick intended to show that the future is uncertain...
besides the accomplishments of this film, I'd say it was rather boring and monotonous... it was emotionally flat and most of it did not make any sense. for example, it was never explained exactly what or how the black tablet/wall whatever thing came to be or what it did... and then they begin talking about the journey to its discovery... and after it, the pain the astronauts experience is not explained. hal's purpose was not physically shown but one is obviously intended to deduce the fact that hal dislikes humans and wants to do the mission by himself but yet, why exactly he was doing what he did and what he was going to do after was not clear.... the prerecorded message at the end does not make sense and leaves the viewer at the end of a cliff. why was it hidden from hal? it seems as if there is no significant meaning to anyone. and finally the last scene where it gets completely messed up.... how does the pod get in a room? how does it disappear? how does he suddenly get out of his space suit and how does the black tablet thing appear? what is the meaning of the starchild?
OVERALL: i did NOT enjoy this film, i felt like i wasted 2.5 hours watching something that could have taken 1 hour... though there are some great achievements, i would not spend my time watching this when i could have done something else yes, it is good in some ways, but it was not made for me... my generation desires action. i desire emotion and continuity in films i watch. this movie had none of the above.... anyways watch it, enjoy it for its achievements of the time and not for the plot line.
Hanna (2011)
if you don't like loose ends, this isn't the movie for you
when i first saw this trailer in movies, i decided i wanted to see it... its a waste of time... unless you just want a quick action flick with no meaning. so basically you're introduced to this girl Hanna being brought up by her father... whatever blah blah blah, she presses a button and people come to try and kill them... so basically the whole movie is this girl's search for who she is and to find out who wants to kill her and her desire to be free or want more... anyways. so basically everyone dies and it ends with Hanna killing the one person in charge of looking for her and killing her... it doesn't show what happens at the end... idk. i felt like it was lacking something. lacking details. but lots of good special effects i guess... lacks content and contains only a basic storyline.
