Fool Me Once (2024)
Infuriating
Well I think the title says it all. A series that tries to make a hero out of the most unlikable character of any production I have ever watched.
The protagonist is a suspected war criminal, who uses violence constantly, holds innocent people at gunpoint to make them answer her questions, hides evidence from the cops, etc.. And the series insists on portraying her as a hero, which is infuriating.
The entire series is littered with inconsistencies. For instance, in the first episode Maya thinks her husband might be alive and suddenly in the second episode she's trying to convince her sister-in-law that he's dead!!! A whistle blower who released some damning videos about Maya is sitting on evidence that he will not share with the cops. Instead, he shares them willingly with Maya; the person he blew the whistle on! Why would he do that?
At one point in the series, Maya's child is screaming and she's clearly in distress. Instead of running to her child, Maya wakes up, runs to the gun cabinet, calmly puts on her gloves, picks up a gun, and just stands there for a few seconds giving a determined look to the camera and then slowly goes to help her child. What kind of a mother does that? If you want people to watch the show and like it, you have to give them a reason to root for the protagonist, not several reasons to despise her.
All in all, do not watch. I wasted my time, don't waste yours.
The Night Agent (2023)
Mildly Entertaining
Acting is simply horrible. With a few exceptions (Phoenix Raei, Eve Harlow, D. B. Woodside) everyone else is either horribly miscast or simply a very bad actor. The leads are unbelievable and simply laughable at times. The White House staff are ridiculously bad.
On to the story, there are several holes in the story. I don't want to give too much away, but things happen for no logical reason. It seems like logic doesn't play a big part in the series. You can guess the main plot points after episode 3.
All in all, the combination of horrible actors and mediocre storylines make this into a below average TV show.
Ojing-eo geim (2021)
Predictable, but Awesome
So, I just finished watching the Squid Game and I have some contradictory feelings about it. For instance, some episodes get my heart racing. They're so good that you cannot look away from the screen and you start sweating in weird places!!! Then some episodes do very little character development, there is very little drama, there is very little addition to the whole series.
Another thing that I think could've been improved (and maybe should be - if there is to be a second season) is that a lot of times there are enough clues in an episode where you can guess the exactly what is going on. The fact that doesn't ruin the show, must tell you how great it is. But, if you're looking for a big mystery, maybe this isn't your show, because you'll be able to guess what the heck is going on after just a few episodes.
BoJack Horseman: Time's Arrow (2017)
Best Episode Ever
I was going to write a review for this episode, but then I saw and read some of the other reviews. I think they are enough to tell such a sad episode this is. After watching this, I couldn't help but think who is the true victim here? Are they all bad people, or victims of their upbringing? I guess that's a question that cannot be answered... by the show or me. But that, in my opinion, is the sign of an amazing tv series. One that make you ask a question, and then look for the answer in your own life. Do you know anyone like BoJack's mom? Perhaps, you will look at them differently the next time you see them.
Mr. Robot: eps3.7_dont-delete-me.ko (2017)
Beautiful
This episode is all about grief. People process their grief in different ways, and we get to see a handful of people do that here. It was a truly memorable episode for me. It made me think of a time in my life when I was in grief...
Mr. Robot: eps3.4_runtime-err0r.r00 (2017)
Perfect Example of What TV Should Be
Amazing writing, great acting and fabulous execution. This is one of the best episodes of the show so far.
Stranger Things: Chapter Eight: The Battle of Starcourt (2019)
Here Is What I Think Happened
This is my thought process, the minute I saw Hop step foot on that platform: He's going to get sucked into the doorway, and the gang will spend Season 4 trying to rescue him from there. But then I started thinking that would he super repetitive - after all, they did that with Will on the first season and (kind of) with Elle (I know, I know, I like it this way) on the second season.
And then I watched the rest of the episode, until the last moment. I think I was wrong. Here is what I think happened. Hop got sucked into the upside down. The Russians didn't stop trying to open the gate, except this time they succeeded in the motherland: Russia. What did they find there you ask? Well, they captured a demogorgon, and an American. Who could the American be except for the one who got lost in the upside down - Hopper???
I finished watching this episode 10 minutes ago. I cannot wait for the fourth season. By the way, Mike is so freaking gross. At times, I wanted to puke my eyes out. I do not like him or the guy who plays him. Elle, if you're reading this, you can do so much better.
Dead to Me (2019)
Amazing Show
I'd like to start with the writing. Do you know those shows where you're constantly thinking "Why would they do that?", "Come on, you could have done that.", or "I cannot believe you decided to do that!"? Well, if you don't, I am talking about the kind of shows where characters do not behave exactly as the average man or woman would have behaved in that situation. I personally, do not really like that kind of a show -- it always makes me mad when people do stupid things, however, I can understand why it can be appealing to some people. Alright, let's get to this show. I really enjoyed the writing. There are some things that characters do which I did not get at first, but as their character is developed I can completely sympathize with them. I really liked how the story unraveled itself naturally, it does not fell forced at all. I commend the writers for the job that they've done, but hey, it wouldn't have been perfect without the right actresses, right?
Which bring us to acting. First of all, I am really glad to see Christina Applegate show her face again, on TV. I had really missed her -- and I have only seen her in Friends, as my Rachel's sister (she's my favourite sister). She and Linda Cardellini have explosive chemistry. I have every scene in which the two of them are present. Other actors have also done a very solid job or portraying their characters.
All in all, I look forward to series 2.
The Dawn Wall (2017)
A Tale of Dedication, Heartbreak, Obsession, and True Friendship
I watched this documentary one day after I did my first (unsuccessful) endeavour at rock climbing at my local gym. By the end of the film, I was sweating hard; so much so that I had to take a shower to shake off that feeling.
The narrative does a fabulous job of showing Tommy's motives prior to the big climb. His background, as well as his relationship is looked into deeply. And it all justifies his crazy idea, his crazy obsession, to climb an impossible wall.
This is an amzing watch, even if you're not into rock climbing. You should watch this just to remind yourself that everything is possible. No matter how hard it may look, no matter what others may say, if you want it hard enough you will find the strength to do it.
At the end, I just want to give a shout out ti KJ. You rock every bit as hard as Tommy, if not more.
Steins;Gate (2011)
Amazing in All World Lines
It starts kind of slow and lazy. Unlike other masterpieces (i.e. Death Note) that capture you from that first episode, it takes more than few episodes here for the viewer to invest in the story. It is absolutely crucial though, to see the first few (say 10) episodes. It is in those episodes that we learn the world the characters are living in. Their relationships, their goals, their ambitions. We need to know these in order to enjoy the rest of the show. It's been so long since I binged this anime and I can still hear Okarin's "mad scientist" laugh and the sweat sound of Mayuri's tutturu!
When you enter the second half of the anime, every episode is a race for dear life. It is pure gold if you endure the first few episodes. I don't want to give anything away, just watch the show. I'll give you a piece of advice though. It might be more convenient to watch the dubbed version. I think in order to really relate to the characters (how innocent Maturi is, how crazy Okarin is, how disgusting/genius Itaru is) it is best to watch the anime with Japanese audio.
Twin Peaks: The Return: Part 16 (2017)
My God, It's Great!
Oh my God! I just finished this episode and that's all I can say about it. In one word, it was great. After 25 years and 15 hours of waiting, he finally gave the fans what they wanted. Oh, and more! Thank you, chief. This was truly one of the best episodes of TV that I have ever had the joy of watching.
Four times during this episode, I said to myself "This can't get any better"; I was wrong the first three times. Maybe even the fourth, I'll have to watch the next episode to know.
Gravity Falls (2012)
Supernaturally Amazing
Gravity Falls in a wonderful ride on which you will laugh, reminisce your childhood memories and possibly even cry. Based on the family and acquittances of its creator, Alex Hirsch, Gravity Falls introduces an array of unforgettable characters. If you think about it for a second, I am sure you can think of a Dipper, a Mabel and a Grunkle Stan in your own family.
What I love about this show, is that the mysteries never end. Just when you think you have found a break-through the next mystery presents itself. The funny thing is, the show itself has a lot of puzzles for the fans to solve. A die-hard fan of the show can track this puzzles and never get tired. To give you an example, there are subtle hints to the identity of the Author in form of hidden letters in the background and various objects in flashbacks. It's really amusing to try and find these. (I would recommend you to watch "Behind the Pines" before you watch the last 40-minute episode of the show.)
This is a must watch TV show. There are some scary scenes, but nothing a 13-year-old boy cannot handle. Have fun solving the mysteries of Gravity Falls.
Archer (2009)
Not As Good As I expected
Just finished watching season 2. Up until now, this show is a lot of unnecessary screaming, irritating mess ups and well, a whole lot of sex! I was led to believe that Archer is a spy TV show. That couldn't have been more wrong. If you call 'occasionally shooting someone while you have absolutely no plan to deal with what's coming' a spy show, then this will be your piece of cake.
Truly annoying! Lower your expectation before watching the first season. Seriously, this is what most of the show is about: Not putting your phone on silent and constantly talking to yourself while doing a secret mission, always throwing a new tantrum and acting like a spoiled little brat, talking about their secret missions in public and bragging how Archer is a secret agent to anyone who passes by.
To be completely fair, there are three or four episodes that are actually worth watching towards the end of the second season.
The Missing (2014)
Edge-of-the-Seat Amazing
This is a review for the first season of this show.
This is an absolutely must-see TV show. You will experience the frustration that the characters are feeling and more importantly you will feel how damaged they have become through the years. My wife burst into tears at the end of one of the episodes and she is the type of woman who does not get influenced by TV easily. Two thumbs up for the story and another two thumbs up for the way it is being delivered to the audience.
Aside from the amazing story and narrative, all the actors have done a superb job of portraying their role in the fate of poor Oliver Hughes. Directing is great and the soundtracks are perfect for the mood of the show. All in all, this is a piece of masterpiece TV which you must try.
I have heard the second season is even better. Will update my review once I saw the second season.
The Intern (2015)
Amazing movie to watch with your family
Well, I just watched the movie and my only regret is that I should have watched it with my wife. Although It's probably okay, I'll watch it a second time with her later. I know I'll enjoy just as much.
I have loved Anne Hathaway in every movie I have seen of her. She once again did an amazing job. I'm not saying she deserves an Oscar for it, but I also wouldn't be surprised if she got nominated. She perfectly succeeded to capture her role: A woman who loves her job and her family and wants to make everyone who matters to her happy at all costs. Oh, did I mention she was great?
Where would the movies be today if it wasn't for Robert De Niro? Show me a single person who doesn't love him. I'm serious, show me!!! Once again he did it. He plays a senior intern in a huge up and coming company. That's all I'm going to say. I'm not going to praise him or say that he was good. I'm going to say that he is the soul of the movie and I loved seeing him. But that's just me, I love him in anything.
There are some scenes in the movie that kind of vaguely reference other movies that the stars have played. It was really fun for me to watch this scenes. There's of course the bride whose name is Rachel (Rachel Getting Married (2008)), the scene where Ben is talking to himself in the mirror (Taxi Driver (1976)) and of course my personal favorite, the airplane scene where Ben and Jules are chatting (Midnight Run (1988)). Gosh, I was so excited to think that He might do his iconic laugh.
All in all, this is an amazing movie that you need to watch with people whom you love. I assure you it will a good two hours, for all of you.
Arrested Development (2003)
First 3 Seasons: Great
This is an excellent series created by Fox. The first 3 seasons are really great filled with funny moments and dialogues. The casting is good, directing is good and the script, although a little bit out there, but is above average.
I wished they wouldn't end this when watched the last episode of season 3. The series returned for a season 4 after 7 years, I watched the first episode of it and ... well, it didn't feel like Arrested Development. The actors had changed a lot, and I just couldn't buy it. Plus, the camera work was kind of odd, I mean it's Arrested Development, the camera should be moving constantly, but it wasn't like this in the first episode of season 4. For the first few episodes I was really disappointed, I kept telling my self: "Don't worry, it gets better" ... It didn't.
Actors had changed a lot: The only thing left from Lindsay was her voice! Tobias had gotten fat, George Michael looked like he was recently in a car accident - kinda stupid, Michael had also changed a lot. Buster and GOB hadn't changed much but they were nowhere to be seen in this episode. The only one who hadn't changed a bit was Lucille - which is worse than not changing at all!!
Each episode in season 4 portraits one of the characters as the main character and shows events from their point of view. So for example, you end up watching one scene from 7 different views (it happened). It's nice to notice new angles of what happened but it's kinda predictable at first and well you get tired of it after some time.
The ending ... Don't even get me started on that! It was awful, so many loose ends. They're saying that there's going to be an Arrested Development movie or maybe season 5. I don't know about that, I just know that season 4 didn't start well, didn't go well and particularly didn't end well.
All in all, watch the first three seasons and then kiss the series good bye. Why would you ruin your good memories of Arrested Development by watching the fourth season?! Take my word for it..
Her (2013)
Don't miss this - It's amazing
I just finished the movie and I'm still shocked. It was amazing, I should probably run by the store later to buy the soundtracks. Everything about this movie is above average, to be more precise everything about this movie is plain perfect.
The directing is just marvelous. The views, peculiar angles, time to time irrelevant shots (you might think they're irrelevant, that's the genius of it). The acting was also top notch, Phoenix was amazing in particular(I loved the scene where he spins and films him self), other players where just as good. Honestly, I didn't think there was enough material left to portrait the cliché story of technological love and how computers have influenced us in ways that are not normal. Spike Jonze proved me wrong, if there's one thing that's even greater than the directing and the cast, that is the writing. There's no word to describe how authentic and good it is, You're just gonna have to watch it for yourself.
Altogether, the set of people I mentioned above managed to make me feel for an operating system, something that I never thought I could do.
Watch this, it's really amazing.
The Walking Dead (2010)
Worth watching if you ask me
I've only seen the first two seasons of the show and that's what's been aired so far. So this review is for the first two seasons.
Directing is great, writing is clever, casting is very good and the result is something you don't wanna miss. It kinda reminds me of the first two seasons of Lost, where you learn the island and the people and their stories and I used to count minutes between two episodes of it. This is another show with every bit of suspense that's required to make you count seconds for the next episode.
It's about a group of people trying to survive a epidemic that's caught the entire earth: The Walking Dead. One thing about the world of the series is that every one seems to be out of their mind, the dead and alive. People are fighting the dead and worst than that their fighting each other all the time. I don't know about the other guys who watched the series but I hate the majority of the group. They're a crazy bunch of people who prefer their own good rather than the group and don't wanna play for the team. But isn't that what's true? I mean how do you expect everyone to be calm with what's going on?
All in all it's a pretty good series with a strong writing and definitely worth watching.
Update: Okay, it's been a couple of years. I was reviewing my IMDb reviews when I stumbled upon this one. I have watched six seasons now. I can confidently say that the series is not as good as it used to be after season three. Every once in a while, there is a really good episode but most of the time the group is just roaming around, doing nothing significant. I specially like the mid-season finales of seasons four, five and six but the rest isn't really like The Walking Dead we used to watch.
