Fantastic Four (I) (2005)
5/10
A comic movie geared towards the kids.
27 May 2006
It seems most comic book films are receiving the royal treatment these days. Aiming towards the more adult audience, making the characters more dark and true to life. Examples obviously include Spiderman, Sin City, X-Men, Batman etc...

And while all those movies were made much darker and more serious, The Fantastic Four seemed to cater to the younger audience and the more cookie cutter movie crowd. (There is a snowboarding sequence in this movie for pete's sake.) But regardless of all the safe-way-out flaws, it remains a fun flick for kids and parents. But the core comic crowd might be a little disappointed.

Ghostbusters (1986–1987)

The Ghostbusters before the Ghostbusters
27 May 2006
Filmation's Ghostbusters was created in the early eighties- several years before the hit live-action film.

The show was basically your run of the mill eighties slapstick children's show; where two guys and a monkey catch ghosts. They are continually pitted against their nemesis- Prime Evil.

The rights to the name "ghostbusters" were bought by columbia pictures when the film 'Ghostbusters' was released. When they turned the hit movie into an animated show it was then legally required to be called The REAL Ghostbusters. Because filmation held the rights to the animated medium.

It's a kooky show and interesting to watch. I remember renting it when I was a little kid and being really really confused. Expecting slimer and the gang; I instead got two inept dudes and an ape.

Fun stuff. Check it out!

Perfect Hair Forever (2004–2014)

This show is comedy gold. Plain and simple.

Though not for everyone, this is honestly one of the funniest shows on television; especially when it comes to just plain random humor. The creative minds behind Space Ghost, Aqua Teen and various other adult swim shows are insanely apparent.

The humor isn't really jokes or even visual gags most of the time. More so it's the completely off the wall dialog which sometimes is humorous muttering (Uncle Grand Father) or just plain incomprehensible yelling (Coiffio). Though this might be somewhat off-putting to a certain demographic, it should prove very effective to the typical adult swim crowd. If you like Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Harvey Birdman or any of the other hot adult swim shows, you will LOVE this. It's not for everyone, but if you get it, it's comedy gold. Plain and simple.

Elder (2004)
8/10
Very well written and well directed film.
6 June 2005
Elder is an excellent little film about two young Mormon missionaries. It covers what their spiritual journey is like, and some of the trials they face. Only slightly more dramatized.

The acting is a little one-sided. The lead, (Meekin) completely steals the show. His reverence for the part and his soft-spoken naive mannerisms make his character stand out brilliantly. The other actors hold their own just fine. Perhaps one or two shaky lines, nothing too objectionable. But it's a good cast overall.

The film truly is just plain good. It gets you emotional, and keeps you interested. I would recommend this film to anyone with high praise.

Probably the best Kenpo movie ever made.
4 June 2005
..But that's not to say the movie is all-around great. It's a very typical low-budget action flick. The story is pretty cookie-cutter as far as action movies go. It isn't Shakespeare believe me. And the acting is substandard at best. But Jeff Speakman to his enormous credit is a very accomplished martial artist. And having studied Kenpo for many years I can safely say that it's one of the most faithful films to capture the art. And what is even more impressive is the way the film portrays how Kenpo works when compared to different styles (like Tae Kwon Do).

So despite some minor inadequacies it's pretty awesome in many other respects. So for that I give it major credit. And to be honest it's a fun, feel good flick. I would recommend it to any martial arts fan. It's a good time.
