The Monkees: The Chaperone (1966)
Fun Monkee Shenanigans
Caught this episode today. I don't think that I had seen it since I was 9 yrs old. I doubt that I noticed then that Mr Clean made a guest appearance. I probably only had eyes for Micky! The best part was the final song, which was written by Mike Nesmith. It was fun to hear each individual voice, and watching the dearly departed Davy and Peter having such a good time. For 30 minutes, I was 9 yrs old.
The Goldbergs (2013)
Just rent "The Wonder Years"
Because I like Jeff Garlin, I had some hope for this show. Five minutes into the first episode, I knew I was going to be terribly disappointed. Early-on was a rip-off of a "Wonder Years" episode, where Kevin has to go shopping for new pants with his mother. The horror! While Norma Arnold was sweet, caring and unaware of the embarrassment that she was causing her son, the same scene with Beverly Goldberg was just embarrassing because of the over-acting.
The character comparisons between the two shows are unavoidable (same 3 children, and a narrator whose voice is a dead-ringer for that of the one in "Wonder Years"), although you can't compare the talent. I saw nothing in the actors of The Goldbergs that would make me want to tune in again.
I can only hope that this show goes off into oblivion and "Curb Your Enthusiasm" returns, so I can once again see Jeff Garlin in a role that is enjoyable. Playing the long-suffering spouse of Susie ( Essman ), is priceless. I can only imagine that he also longs for those days.
