Everyone has a miss in their filmography
8 October 2022
I'm a big fan of Mr. Flanagan. However, I do believe this show is a miss for him.

Hill House was perfect

Bly Manor was meh but beautiful in its own way

Midnight Mass was exceptional

Midnight Club is just plain disappointing.

It's well written and the acting is truly exceptional especially coming from these young actors I've mostly never seen before. However, the directing is mostly flat and it's shot like a typical CW or Netflix teen supernatural show. It felt very derivative. The plot was also very predictable.

The stories the kids tell themselves were great on their own but the overarching story was very disappointing and basic as hell.

It's a big miss for Mr. Flanagan and all great filmmakers have at least one. This is his.

It's a good story for the acting and the written drama and themes are great. But it fails itself by being soooo similar to other shows of its kind and having predictable story beats.

Some will love this but I'm just not part of that demographic. It is what it is. I will still be looking forward to Fall of the House of Usher.

I loved it!
26 November 2011
This movie was one hell of a surprise for me! A little while ago, I was really looking forward to it since I'm such a fan of Matt Damon and I adored his most recent movie The Adjustment Bureau. I'm glad this was my first advanced screening.

Another thing was that I'm probably one of the first people to see this movie and I'm happy for it! The story was involving and kept me glued to the screen, the little romances between some of the characters were cute and believable, and most of all, THE LITTLE GIRL! She was so cute and an incredible actress for her age!

The script was phenomenal and the performances were stellar. The direction was great (expected considering Cameron Crowe, director of acclaimed Jerry Maguire) as well. It made me feel very happy and will most definitely take you out of a dark place if you're in one.

Only one gripe was that it was pretty predictable considering the trailer. But, avoid the trailer if you really want to be in love with this movie. I still was! Despite having had seen the trailer.

I highly recommend it, great Christmas flick!

Full 10/10. No, I wasn't involved in this movie at all. Just got a very lucky advanced screening.

Fast Five (2011)

Summer truly has begun!
30 April 2011
Summer begins April 29.

And yes, yes it did.

This movie was friggin' awesome! I thought Fast & Furious was the best of the franchise, but Fast Five has completely blown all of its predecessors out of the water!

Despite it completely breaking all laws of physics (especially including a scene where a small muscle car manges to trip a bus over) the movie was awesome. This makes a Fast and the Furious movie worth watching! Being a huge fan, I loved this movie to death.

Never has a movie made me sweat in the theater seat and pump me full of so much adrenaline that I almost peed my pants.

They drive a SAFE through the STREET!

The other awesome part of this film is that it's a Fast and the Furious movie with a story and more depth to the characters. The previous movies were meant solely for their action and this one does that, too... Plus some more!

I got the honorable pleasure to see this pulse pounding film in IMAX and it was worth every cent. I suggest that, for the full effect, you see it in IMAX as well.

This is the pure testosterone of 2011. 2010 had The Expendables and 2008 had Rambo, now Sylvester has met his match, and his name is Justin Lin.

My all time favorite King adaptation!
3 April 2011
This film is about a group of people who fall asleep on an airplane, but wake up to them having gone through a rip in time and the people who were awake, disappeared. They must now try to find a way to get back to the present before the Langoliers (time eating monsters) eat away at the past. Leaving it a barren void.

I thoroughly enjoyed this film. I saw it for the first time on the Syfy channel (a place I never expect to see a good movie) and I adored the storyline most of all. It made SENSE! The whole idea of everything not working in the past, cuz it's not used anymore and it needs to start to thin out for the Langoliers to finish it off.

Great movie overall. The main issues are the acting by the main lady and the little girl and some of the other minor characters. The only good actor was the science fiction writer guy. The other issue was the horrible effects on the Langoliers. They looked like bad CG'd balls of fur with awkwardly shiny, moving, razor teeth.

Unless you actually care about CGI (I'm talking to you Avatar fanatics) and you could care less about story, see this movie! It's on Syfy tonight (Sunday, April 3) from 10 to 1:30. It's a two part movie series. The Stand (four part series) is also on today. 2-9:30. I recommend The Stand as well.

I enjoyed it.
1 April 2011
It was definitely not a great movie but it wasn't horrible. It had a great storyline that was sacrificed to bad execution.

What I liked about it was its dark under-tone and scenes that were actually pretty scary! The acting was pretty good too and the meaning that popped up in the end was decent as well.

A one star review to this movie just isn't cool. Two stars maybe. Three stars, four stars WHATEVER! It seems the most reasonable ratings would be a five, six or seven. A ten is not acceptable unless you only liked the films darkness and storyline and completely avoided the bad execution.

I think that the best way the director and the writer could have fixed this was to show what went on when the survivors (Hayden Christensen, The black chick from Riddick, John Leguizamo (not sure if that's spelled right) and some kid) were learning about what was going on with the whole darkness thing. If they showed that it would've been way better.

Overall, the only main bad part in this movie was the execution. If they had better execution for the great storyline and premise it would've been a million times better, maybe even Oscar-worthy. Maybe.

At least it's better than Skyline.

The most beautiful film ever made... In my opinion.
1 April 2011
The main reason why this is such a great movie is because how far Matt Damon's character is willing to go to be with the love of his life, Emily Blunt's character. The acting in this movie is also amazing. Matt Damon and Emily Blunt's chemistry was great and needed to be great to make the film make sense. Terrence Stamp's big monologue scene was awesome and literate, making George Nolfi officially one of my favorite writers of all time (along with Aaron Sorkin and Ehren Kruger and some others). Anthony Mackie needs to be in more movies, proved his acting is great.

There's also the cool thing that this movie is the most non-violent thriller film ever made! There are no guns even shown in this film! That is new! The only violent parts that I recall are two punches and one scene where Matt Damon trips violently. That's it! The rest of the movies is just big bad-ass chase sequences.

It's a romance movie too that is tied in with an extremely cool and original sci-fi concept written by the greatest sci-fi author of all time in the 50's, Philip K. Dick. I plan to read the short story soon, and from all the bad comments (which amaze me!) must be completely different from this movie. Maybe there's no romance or something. I personally thought that it made the film more intriguing and it fit well. I liked it.

This is the date movie of the year! (Avoid Beastly) And, it is a date movie that girls AND guys will like. That almost never happens! The last time I saw that was in The Fountain.

Okay, I take back what I said in the summary. The Fountain is the most beautiful film ever made. This holds a close second, though.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! The best movie of the year so far!

All beautiful imagery and awesome action!..... Until the ending.
27 March 2011
Warning: Spoilers
Anyone can disagree with me on this but here's how the experience was for me in the movie.

Beginning to middle was pure beautiful action sequences. Some of the images I saw in these fighting sequences won't be forgotten. Instant classic! And that's just the chicks! The action (fighting) sequences were badass! An awesome scene when Babydoll fights the samurai robots was amazing and is the greatest fight scene I've ever seen!

Then the ending came. The entire end sequence from Blue blowing Amber and Blondie's heads off to Sweet Pea getting away while Babydoll gets her lobotomy just made me kinda depressed and freaked out. That whole sequence was somehow disturbing. I don't know how but it just was. Revealing this film to be a dark action film.

I loved it!

Scream of the Banshee (2011 TV Movie)

Blue Moon

You know, every once in a while, Syfy brings in an original movie that is actually really good (i.e. Dinocroc vs. Supergator, Maneater, Wyvern, Sunshine, Goblin, The Final, Splinter, Headless Horseman and maybe a few others). This has been added to that list.

Now, this isn't your average Syfy monster stalks and kills movie Syfy always puts in. This is a psychological thriller movie with great acting and some really scary stuff and a lot of blood.

This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to see a psycho-horror movie by Syfy. They will most likely never do that again (considering the next movie of the month, Ferocious Planet) so see this while you can. Its actually pretty scary. Not horror movie scary, psycho-horror movie scary.

1st act is amazing as is second, why do you complain about the third?
12 March 2011
Warning: Spoilers
Most people who have seen this film complain about the film's third act because it turns into a big old horror/slasher flick. It did turn into that, but honestly, WHO CARES? I thought it was fine and made the movie much scarier. And I honestly don't think they could've made it any different. Maybe the crew just screws up and something breaks and everything goes to crap. Basically the same thing. As if someone went crazy and started killing everyone. So people, stop complaining and enjoy the movie for how great it is! I love this movie! I recommend it to anyone who likes a great sci-fi film with some horror elements that I thoroughly enjoyed and amazing acting!
