Class of 83 (2020)
Good Performances but writing could have been better
"Class of 83" is based on the underworld/mafia rule in Mumbai during the 80's era. The film starts with Police training academy of which Bobby Deol is the dean, where four rebellious but smart trainees who do not like typical police guidelines or training material. This attitude caught the Dean's eye, who makes certain changes in their training to prepare them for the actual police role. He consciously makes them aware of a certain gangster who Bobby Deol (Dean) was pursuing few years back, however, due to political influence the gangster slipped away. The narrative is build where the 4 trainees becomes encounter specialist where in they have started enjoying killing bad people just for the numbers sake. The build up to the ending looks rushed, hence, you do not witness seat of the edge kind of thriller.
Overall the performances of all the actors are great. It is nice to see Bobby Deol back in doing good roles. Overall a decent watch.
La isla mínima (2014)
Good thrilling movie with great performances
Set up in 1980's two homicide detectives were sent to a remote town to investigate the disappearance of teenage sisters. During their investigation they found similar cases of girls disappearing in the past which lead them to think that they are after a serial killer.
With stellar performances from Juan (Javier Gutiérrez) and Pedro (Raúl Arévalo), beautiful locations and superb writing La Isla Minima is definitely one of the best thrilling movies of 2014. In some ways it reminds me of the True detective season 1 with long roads shots, isolated houses and dark forests.
If you are into classic thrilling movies like Se7en, Silence of the lambs, Bone collector etc. you are going to appreciate this movie so go for it.
