CAMP is this generation's FAME
11 August 2003
I read some reviews before going to see the movie & the critics said it was similar to FAME. I saw Fame when it was initially released in 1980. I thought it had an outside chance for a Best Picture Nomination, but it was nominated in 4 categories & it did win best song for Irene Cara. I give it a 10/10. I like the premise ( acting school for teenagers). Everyone was excellent, I looked up most of the cast history in IMBd of course, a majority of them are acting on screen for the first time. Don Dixon is excellent as the washed-up, alcoholic composer & Daniel Letterle (Vlad) could be the next Brad Pitt. The dialogue is excellent, sensitive & adults should be able to relate to it as well as teenagers. Steven Sondheim make a good came. There is also an ' All About Eve" subplot which is hilarious. It will probably be nominated for Best Movie (Musical/Comedy) in the Golden Globe & also best ensemble acting by SAG (Screen Actors Guild). The Oscar may give a nod to Don Dixon some astute observers once said the Academy loves alcoholics )

The 1st & Best Women's Prison Movie Ever Made
23 July 2003
I saw this movie years ago before cable when they used to have the good old Saturday night late show & "late late show ". The movie & acting are over whelming. Eleanor Parker is excellent, but Hope Emerson steals the movie. Both were nominated for Best & Best Supporting Actress. I could understand Eleanor not winning against Bette Davis or Gloria Swanson, but I would have 't wait for it to come out in VHS or DVD A Must! 10/10

The 1st movie Oscar nominated in all 4 acting category.
4 June 2003
Why it did not receive a Best Picture nomination is a mystery to me. This is an excellent screwball comedy with a sane & socially conscious message. Although the whole cast is flawless, I would give a slight edge to Alice Brady. She did not win the Oscar in 36, but did win in 37 for "In Old Chicago". She had one of the best lines in the movie when speaking to one of her daughters 'It took me all these years to realize insanity runs on your father's side'. Eugene Pallete is excellent as the father & should also have been nominated. This is the only movie I can remember watching with Carole Lombard & she illuminates the screen in every scence. A must! 10/10

The 1st All Star Cast Movie.
2 June 2003
I saw this excellent movie over 20 years at a theater specializing in showing old movies. The whole cast is excellent & I can't think of anyone who stands out.Greta Garbo is beautiful, Wallace Berry is Wallace Berry & Joan Crawford is interesting as the secretary. One book I read Joan Crawford would play Marlene Dietrich's record to spite Garbo, but in an biography, Joan said she met Greta on the steps in passing& she told her "you have such a beautiful face".

An excellent & compassionate movie.10/10

I went to see A Patch Of Blue in 1966 because it starred Sidney Poitier & it had just been nominated for some Academy Awards. This was Elizabeth Hartman's first movie & she received a well deserved nomination. I was hoping she would win the Oscar in an upset, but I thought one of the Julie's would win (Andrews or Christie). I was glad Shelley Winters won in a role that you love to hate. I tried to keep up with Elizabeth Hartman's career, but she faded from the acting scene & returned to the Pittsburgh area & committed suicide in the 80's. People magazine said she had suffered from mental illness & had declined some very good roles. I read somewhere they were going to re-make this movie. Although the county's racial attitudes have changed since the 60's, it still might make a potent statement.
