Hopefully not the last Star Trek movie!
6 July 2003
Warning: Spoilers
*WARNING: SPOILERS WITHIN, please don't read this if you don't want spoilers!*

I agree with those who have said this film was highly underrated. It truly was, I thought it just as good as Generations and First Contact (my personal favorite of the NG series), and as a comeback after Insurrection it really shined.

I have to say that I cried like I did in the Wrath of Khan (strong similarities), and I'm hoping that like the Wrath of Khan, there will be a way to bring (SPOILERS, LAST CHANCE TO TURN BACK) Data back. I grew up with Data, and Star Trek fans have watched him grow and evolve, and it was very sad for me to think of how all of that is gone. The story is revolved around what it is to be human, and I think by his sacrifice, the ultimate sacrifice, Data has become as human as he ever wanted to be. Very touching.

The movie gave us a strong sense of family, and the story was in itself strong - the characters are all so human, and in this movie they're brought to life in a way like never before. The camaraderie adds good humor, well thought out, not cheap.

All in all, I think fans and even those who aren't fans will enjoy this movie. But bring the tissues! And pray this won't be the last movie to carry the next generation crew!

Keeps you interested.
20 June 2003
This movie was, to me, a teen generally interested and amused by movies like "Bill & Ted" and "Waynes World", trying too hard. It's not the fault of the actors and actresses (Victoria Abril was adorable, I got attatched to her character), but more the writers. This was supposed to be a comedy/drama and it turned out to be more of a strained drama with Joe Pesci. His character was loud mouthed, and rude, but sometimes a good, loyal friend would poke through. Like when he interacted with William (Christian Slater), his spaced out friend suffering from head trauma and anxiety due to an accident we never really learn much about.

Christian Slater's performance kept me watching the movie - he was very passive in this, and was very unlike his usual roles. I really like his William. He played it very well - I almost forgot I was watching Christian Slater, which is a sign of good acting. I would see this movie if you were a die-hard Christian Slater fan, but otherwise, don't bother.

A great laugh, not a history lesson.

A lot of the comments on this film I have read seem to think that this movie was produced, directed and put out for a history lesson. If this were it's purpose, I'm certain the director could have done it that way.

On it's own, it's a very pleasant movie. I was never bored, there was never a moment where I thought of turning it off or fast forwarding. It's fast paced, action packed, hilarious - it's supposed to be a family movie! It's certainly not Oscar worthy, but it's on my favorites list.

I'm a big Sheen and Sutherland fan, and I enjoy movies where one of them does not play a blood thirsty psycho (as Kiefer tends to do). This was all out fun. Funny dialogue, Porthos is a bit far-fetched, but he added greatly to the humor, the different perspectives we're given from each of the Muskateers on how they view each other ( "Aremis takes death very seriously" "Athos takes his drinking very seriously" ) had me cracking up. All in all, I loved it, give it 5/5 and recommend it for those wanting a good laugh.
