Who writes this rubbish?
5 November 2009
I mean seriously.... watch this and see the holes that come from the writing, it's like swiss cheese. It's just plain bad. The characters are utterly unbelievable, the conversations trite and the whole thing progresses like it was written by a high schooler.

Don't get me wrong, I think the actors aren't half bad in it. And I'm happy to see Baccarin back. But what can a good actor do with a rubbish script? Nothing....

Scott peters should be fired from Hollywood. If you think otherwise, watch it again, or wait for ep2, but pass on the flashy CG and look at what should make a show good, the writing. V lacks this 100%.

Quarantine (2008)

Totally lame
29 September 2009
This was an almost scene for scene copy of the much better REC, a Spanish film taking place in Barcelona. To make it fair, I watched both day after day, and went into both with an open mind.

Simply put, I have no idea how Hollywood managed to think that a remake was necessary? They could have just dubbed the original, put it out in the US theaters, saved on production costs and made more cash for everyone.

Long story short is watch the original, don't bother with the remake, character development is much better, Angela Vidal is better is Spanish and more human than Carpenter, and notwithstanding overall character development is better in the original.

From what I've heard it's even wore is that the director doesn't even mention during the commentary that the film is based on REC, doesn't mention i.e. "that this same scene was in the original and we though it was great so we used it ourselves." Total ripoff, total rubbish, total Hollywood crap.

Uprising (2001 TV Movie)

Disgusting! An audacious portrayal a great historical moment.
29 November 2005
I'm not going to deliberate, or point out the historical inaccuracies of this film; other posters have already done this. I will instead say how utterly disgusted I was by the portrayal of the Pole during this film. Being of Polish Jewish decent, and having a grandfather who lived through the Warsaw uprising, and having heard first hand of what occurred here, I can only say that this film does a great disservice to the men and women who fought with next to nothing to keep the Germans at bay for over a month. If anything, it should also be pointed out that in all likelihood the uprising would have been a success if the governments of Britain and the United States had come through on their promises, however that information, like so much other vital information about the uprising and the AK is excluded from this film.

Another comedy from the skewed world of Mr. Moore
25 June 2004
I recall the good old days when mr. moore was someone to be taken seriously, where his political convictions meant something, where he was after that all so fabled word "the truth", but that was Roger & Me, and that was 15 years ago. In farenheit, mr. moore takes what information is already readily available to the public, be it through general knowledge, government papers, etc... and turns it meet his own political goals, which seem to be an utter hatred for our current puppet of a president, mr. bush. Necessary, no, amusing, maybe, comical, by all means.

However, the movie does portray some things that we all as humans should at least acknowledge, the atrocity of war, the hatred of peoples, and the undesirable death of innocents; but all this can be done with a film such as Stalingrad (1993), and not with a piece of propaganda that utilizes this country's recent wound to prod at and make you . Not to mention a bit of prisoner sexual abuse footage shot in Dec, that never made it to the media. Why? Could we not have prevented the abuse of numerous other POW's? Who knows, but it sure points to what undoubtedly is mr. moore's end game, the greenback.

Anyway, enough of this rant, but I do wonder if mr. moore will make a film about one John Kerry his ties to the Kennedy's, the Heinz fortune, his somewhat questionable senate voting record and a little thing called special interest. Yeah he probably will, being an independent and all (sarcasm off).

More typical garbage from France
3 January 2004
Like most French made as of late that are not based on the works of Dumas, Hugo, Moliere etc... this film is total and the huundreds of other French films that by the the will of the gods do not make it state side, Les Triplettes de Belleville tries to present the viewer with a number of "think about this topics" such as fate, love, devotion etc... however as fine as this sounds, they are presented in the most obvious, simplistic and utterly mundane ways ever, so poor is the exectution of this that a two year old child would be able to fully rationalize and understand these concepts. The story is nothing spectacular either, and is written in typical ambiguously esoteric Amelieish fashion, i.e. I am esoteric to be esoteric, so love me or hate me I dont care, I am french. Personally, I'm utterly sick of these types of films, and can we get off the god damn caricatures, from De Gaulle to Eddie Merckx to similarities between the main character and Goscinnys early works, this has just gotten absurd. But moving onward; and I consider this to be the films last and saving grace, the animation is truly spectacular and unique in every fashion (minus the caricatures and the blatant stabs at the Italians, and Americans, these two nationailites were not portrayed in the kindest, yes some stereotypical french country folk were put in for a quick laugh, but I did not find the constant stabs at the americans and Italians amusing), nonetheless, ohter animations, such as the city, the birds eye views, the disproportion of certain objects to others, etc... etc... was inetersting, but that's about it.

Now if you're in a French Film mood, dont waste your money on this, go rent Delicatessen, or Le PLacard, or The Dinner Game, and just say no to ambiguously esoteric french crap.

Cheers,

A fantastically stupid comedy that needs to be seen!
3 October 2003
I recently rented this film and all I have to say is that I was pleseantly surprised. The absurd facial expressions of Gooding, Jr. and Horatio Sanz, are a hillarity to the max (though there is a brief moment where Sanz does a Blutarski move, a salute to Beluschi). Roselyn Snachez is simply put hot, and the overall story line is comic, and reminiscent of the stupid B comedies of the 80's. This movie really is a gem, and the people who find it "dumb" and "pointless" don't see the real meaning behind the film, it is meant to be "dumb" and "pointless". It's hillarious, and the laughs just keep on coming. I gave this a 9/10, and yes I am buying the DVD.

This was hillarious
10 June 2003
From the beggining the movie takes a cooky turn with and "Italian" explanation of the JFK murder, follwed by humour that is fun, witty, and at times charming. Though I do not recommend this film to people who have not been exposed to italian culture, and speak the language, the film itslef is a breath of fresh air to come out of Italy.

Meh....
10 June 2003
Being Polish, I was excited to finally see this film. Family, freinds, and others explained at length how wonderful the film was, and how accurately it portrayed the novel of the same title by Sienkiewicz. Well in my honest oppinion, they were all utterly wrong, and I dont mean just a smidgen either. The film was horrid, it was a poor adaptation of the book, the cinematography resembled that of a C student at your local community college, and Scorupco in the lead was, to put it bluntly, horrid. I wholeheartedly believe that this film could have been much much better, and at times I even found myself laughing at its poor quality. Well as they say c'est la vie.
