The Boondock Saints (1999)
Awful
A simply awful movie. No one should be proud here. Hilarious that a sequel is in the works. Copycat films like this should not get rewarded. Guess that is what Hollywood understands best - copies of better films. Even the usually outstanding Wilem Dafoe doesn't seem comfortable here.
I Love Budapest (2001)
Coming of age
Reminded me of one of my favorite all time movies Dreamlife of Angels. Lead actress was fantastic. It is enternal story of the innocent small town girl moving to the rough big city. Gave an insight into Budapest today and its youth. I highly recommend it.
My Sweet Killer (1999)
strange little film
This film really should be a midnight cult film. It features one of the best performances in film today by its lead character and yet has other far less developed performances. The lead actor exudes a Brando like mystery. The film is painfully low budget but I do like how they used the voices and sounds to fill the lack of visuals. The film is really a case study in watching a person deal with madness and feeling sympathy for someone who is, well a killer.
The Indian Runner (1991)
My favorite movie
Indian Runner remains my favorite movie ever. Director Sean Penn told the most tender realistic portrait of brothers ever here. I had no idea that Charles Bronson could, well act. He is terrific, as is everyone else. Too bad Hollywood doesn't prefer great actors or Vigo and David Morse would have been famous along time ago. Valerie Galino is sexy and simply awesome.
Mean Streets (1973)
Still gritty after all these years
Keitel and DeNiro show why they have been forces for so long. The film is gritty and oddly warm and charming in the moments with Keitel and his girlfriend. Kent Wakeford's cinematography should get more credit than it does. He also shot Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore. If you go back and watch Who's Knocking at My Door - which is horribly shot. It makes me wonder whether the still unbelievably great learned his visual style from Kent Wakeford. Just a college kid's opinion anyways.
