Reckless Indifference (2000)
Interesting
I found this to be an interesting look into the justice system. The case had some tough issues surrounding it, and I think the conflict between the two polarizing views concerning the defendants really lends itself to some great movie drama. Also, I found it to be quite informative in terms of learning things about the courts and various laws and legalities.
The one thing that really stood out though was the outstanding musical score. Usually we tend to overlook a movie's score, especially a documentary, but I thought the original music for this film really helped to make it that much more intense.
Great project all around.
24 Hour Party People (2002)
Good -- not great
I had been wanting to see this film for quite some time, but I was kind of disappointed after viewing it.
I suppose I was expecting it to be more of a sober documentary than a jumbled mess. You do get the basic outline of how things happened, who did what and why, etc., but the whole film feels very rushed.
Also, it did seem that the movie was more balanced towards focusing on the Happy Mondays more than New Order. Not that there's anything wrong with it, but I think if New Order's success was featured more prominently, it would have made the film feel a little more balanced.
It's a good movie for an introduction to the Madchester scene, but it doesn't delve deep enough into said scene.
The House of Yes (1997)
The House of No
While this movie may seem to have an interesting premise, it is as the reviewer said, intensely claustrophobic. The movie's tension builds but doesn't really go anywhere and makes you feel like you are trapped for eternity in this house with these people.
One must wonder why this movie was made...what is the point of it? What is it trying to teach us? No one in the history of the earth would stay in that house for more than 5 minutes, and the fact that this movie is trying to tell us the these people began and ended their lives in this house is terrible. ACH!
