August Rush (2007)
Incredible!
This film is great for the entire family. The acting is wonderful and the story line is powerful. I read a comment that the film was sappy. I disagree. Although it had the potential for sappy, the acting was so strong that the movie was believable. I found myself wrapped up in this boy's magic. I wanted Evan to find a happy ending to his dream. I was hoping for him and moved by the music he felt in the world around him.
Normally I don't watch movies of this genre, but August Rush captured my emotions. I smiled, cried and believed that Evan's music would find his family. When this comes out on DVD, I will add it my my collection of favorites and will watch it many times.
The Lake House (2006)
Beautiful Movie
I saw this movie with my seventeen year old son. Both of us enjoyed it.
Now for the spoilers. The dog and the mailbox helped to keep the mood light. We bonded with the dog , since our own thinks he's human too. I read a complaint that there was no explanation for the time rift. I disagree. I felt that the rift was caused by the untimely accident, which would have separated two people who were meant for each other.
The flick was a little predictable, but that's okay. I didn't figure out the twist till halfway through. This movie moves at a comfortable pace. The dialog and performances were believable. The cinematography was stunning. Keanu and Sandra have a natural chemistry and their roles captured our imaginations and attention. We were both trying to figure out how to get these two characters together.
This movie will be added to our collection of favorites.
DC 9/11: Time of Crisis (2003)
Slow-moving comedy
Was it supposed to be a comedy? The melodrama is reminiscent of the original Star Trek series, but not as believable. This pathetic work of fiction is an attempt to manipulate the uneducated and unmotivated American.
I love my country, but American politics is a filthy game. I tried to watch the whole movie, but my the time I got halfway through it, I really couldn't put up with the continued assault on my intelligence. I must force myself to sit through the last half, though I'm sure it is no more factual than the first half.
Farenheit 9/11, by Michael Moore is biased, but verifiable. DC 9/11: Time of Crisis, is a fallacious farce. Some of us are ready for the truth. Is it out there?

The Notebook (2004)
Very Powerful
I would not have changed a thing about this movie. The Notebook provides the audience with a wonderful blend of laughter and tears in a visually stunning setting. The performances are so powerful that you forget these people are just actors reading scripts. I don't remember the last time I was so deeply moved by a film.
I have read a few detractions. Those comments, however, were written by emotional amoebas who couldn't put together a cohesive sentence. With this in consideration, I would have to say that this film is not for the desensitized or mentally inept.
I would give this movie a 9.9 out of 10, but only because nobody's perfect. I will buy the DVD and watch it until I can see it through dry eyes. Perhaps then, I will find the flaw.
Fahrenheit 9/11 (2004)
Powerful movie
Michael Moore's documentary compels one's attention. My family was riveted and I learned a few things I did not know before. His detractors seem to be fools who voted for Bush, without researching his past, because he appeared to be a 'good Christian'. These ridiculous idiots could not be expected to take advantage of information technology because; gaining knowledge requires effort and discipline. Michael didn't distort information, he exposed dirty facts and, he left enough out to make another movie. The Bush family hasn't felt bound by anything as pathetic as legality, morality or humanity since before grandpappy Prescott. Bush is not an intelligent man, but he believes in his divinity and would not lose sleep over the deaths of a few thousand Americans. Don't be angry with Michael's methods. He's just trying to pull your head out of the sand long enough to glimpse the world.
Michael, you're a brilliant and witty educator. I have some projects for you, how about researching Leonard Peltier's case? Why not run for president? You'll get my vote.
The Day After Tomorrow (2004)
Wow! Who needs rollercoasters?
I read some of the other comments and felt that many of the critics were lost. They didn't understand the flick, despite complaints of a fifth grade script. It is ironic that the people who complained about the intellectual level of the movie were unable to put together a proper sentence. A good example of misunderstanding on the part of other critics is the repeated reference to 'rabid wolves'. This shows a basic ignorance of animal behavior. The wolves were frightened and hungry. Any of nature's creatures would attack under these circumstances. The person who thought that a child with cancer was funny needs therapy. The individuals, who scoffed at the idea of global warming causing catastrophic disasters, elucidated my point.
This is a very exciting movie. With the exception of a few minor flaws, this film is worthy of multiple viewings. It is almost good enough to become a classic.
