Putney Swope (1969)
When I saw this movie, I had to stop what I was doing.

As far as I know, the film debuted in drive in theaters. It was the first minute that caught my attention. Helicopters! Don't you just love 'em!

Imagine that there's this nuclear bomb dropped in the Middle Ages, and there's no mass media, see? The people close up are killed and they don't understand why. Further out, some of the people are only injured and sort of "get it". Further yet, people hear the explosion, but only find out what it really was 'way later. And reeeely far away, the people don't find out about the event until years later. (No media, see?)

This movie is like that. No one understands it, even now. Black exploitation films used the ideas found here, and anyone who wants insights into the control of the masses needs to see it. It's about advertising!!!! Now who would think that such a subject is worth a whole film?

Sooooo,uh, how did YOU get here, anyway? Do you come here often? You should really get some sort of a life. The next thing: you'll be trying to buy Gene Autry's movie "The Phantom Empire".

When I saw this I couldn't believe it was allowed to be on the screen.

I saw this film in Europe after I had been in France about 6 months and was just getting solid about the incredibly powerful control of the media in the US. Viet Nam propaganda was in full swing, and yet, here was this film! I never knew if it had actually been shown in the US until I saw the mention on this site, so I suppose that it was shown here. (The USA)

Of course this film isn't for everyone, but so few real ideas are. One could imagine that this is a blueprint for regaining control of the media and power etc. and thereby the minds of the people of this country. But heck, it's probably not important. Nope, it's OK in fact. As long as we're free to get any job they will let us have and we can go to any church we wish...hey, why complain. Some day, some Master's Degree in Sociology will write about this movie and tell you all about it, so you won't have to think too much on your own. It would have been bad for you anyway.

B.F. Skinner was right. I haven't found a way to buy a copy yet, either.
