The Last of Us: Part II (2020)
Masterpiece - Don't listen to the negative, often homophobic reviews.
It's clear that the first few reviews on iMDB, having read through many of them, stem from homophobia and misogyny and are written by MAGA and Brexit supporting type folk.
The graphical genius and attention to detail is SPECTACULAR. From blood in snow to the effects of shooting or breaking glass, etc... Naughty Dog has taken this to a whole new level.
It's an incredibly emotionally driven story that makes you start to question your own morality and decisions in life.
Undoubtedly THE BEST GAME ON PS4 and a great end to the PS4 saga. It takes the PS4 to the absolute maximum and even requires an extra disc to install the massive world.
On to PS5 and hopefully the last of us part 3 on next gen!
Downsizing (2017)
Boring boring boring BOO-RING!
My goodness have I ever watched a more boring film than this... The 'story', rather 'stor(ies)' are all over the place, it's like some nonsense put together by a bunch of amateur film producers.
There was zero comedy in it, there was a Vietnamese character whose accent was stereotypical and borderline on the racist side and overall... The film was dragged out, lost its focus, yet is so disappointing considering the amount of things that could have been done with the concept of 'downsizing'
Steer clear, you've been warned!
Janaan (2016)
It's my moral duty to tell you how awful this is.
I rarely write reviews for films, but for this film I just had to make an exception and at the minimum try my best by doing my moral duty of WARNING at least one person to not waste any money on this film...
This film is GARBAGE. It appears to be somebody's middle school media project... ABYSMAL acting, AWFUL soundtrack - It reminds me of the utmost worst of Hindi TV shows with the dramatics, etc...
The story follows a Canadian Pakistani girl who travels to Pakistan. The actors are terrible - over exaggeration, stereotypical, etc... There was an annoying background soundtrack and sound effects throughout the film which makes you feel like you want to shoot your ears off and the story itself is ridiculous.
You've been warned... Watch it if you must, but the 12 or so people who rated it up to 7.5 / 8.0 so far must be the actors and their family members.
Pepe's Chicken in the UK have made a seriously bad investment in sponsoring this film!
Amar Akbar & Tony (2015)
Tries to do too much...and quite arrogantly too.
I wouldn't say this film is awful in the sense of '1 out of 10' on IMDb... but it goes up there with 'pretty rubbish'
Now, the first 20 minutes or so seems promising... There was comedic elements to it and I thought "hmm, this could go somewhere"
Unfortunately though after around 25 minutes - it just drops. The jokes aren't funny, it has far too many story lines to focus on and I would also say it's possibly quite borderline racist - there's constant reference to 'Tony' as 'whiteboy' and although you can tell that the intention behind the film is to demonstrate 'liberal' British Asian attitudes, it overdoes it - and gives off the opposite to the desired effect.
The acting skills were abysmal for some of the characters - watch the film and you will see who I'm on about.
Overall - would I recommend watching it?
No, I wish I had followed my gut instinct and walked out instead of clinging to hope that it will get better... Only for the first 20 minutes or so of the film am I giving it a 3/10... the rest - it goes from 2.5/10 to 2.0/10 to the very end... 1.2/10!
The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water (2015)
10/10 for the trailer 2/10 for the actual film
Okay, maybe my review may be slightly unfair - I'm a 24 year old male...
My verdict is that it was just a very kiddy film targeted to audiences of around 5/6 years old. It wasn't funny at all, it was extremely boring and simply predictable.
I rate it 2/10
But then, here's the verdict of my 11 year old sister...
Her verdict is that it's the worst film she has ever seen and after months of waiting for it, she asked to walk out 45 minutes into the film.
Her rating is 1/10.
You make your own mind up - If you want to take your child (unless they're aged 3-7) to watch a film this Easter holiday, opt for Cinderella, or something else - Because this was just awful
Diana (2013)
Why one should ignore the media...
Entering the cinema auditorium with a pre-conceived pessimistic judgment on the film yet determined to watch it anyways, I can only say that I am glad that I had not allowed for media and critic opinion to dissuade me from watching "Diana." The film does not portray Diana in a bad way at all. If anything, it reiterates the absolute disgusting habits our press have had in terms of absolute disregard and disrespect for people's privacy. You feel a certain connection with Diana throughout the film, and see her for the "normal person" she was deep down. Naomi Watts' performance was spectacular, and she certainly did Diana justice. Although the film is most certainly disliked by many - i.e: the media, Islamophobes and daily mail readers... It is disliked for the mere fact that the film provides an insight into things that make certain people very uncomfortable, such as the prospect of the Princess of Wales marrying to a Pakistani Muslim, and the fact that Diana was actually a human being, with feelings, and with a difficult life.
So all I can say is, ignore the media, and make judgements for yourself. Perhaps after watching the film, you would rate it as highly as I have, or perhaps you may walk out half way through... Regardless, it's a fantastic film with a beautiful portrayal of the 'People's Princess'... Be warned: Take some Kleenex with you...The ending... is rather emotional
