Kombi Nation (2003)
A fun ride
I saw Kombi Nation in a theatre packed full of smiling faces. There was many a giggle, gasp, chuckle and guffaw as these classic Kiwi characters scandalised their way around Europe. I'm sure we can all relate to the whole OE adventure, whether we've done the trip, are planning on doing it, or know someone who has. It's not only a Kiwi traddition, but also one for Australians, South Africans and even Europeans themselves. Somewhat naive and extremely excited these fresh faced youngsters set off on 'the road trip of a lifetime', expecting to learn all about foreign lands, they learn more about themselves than anything. I won't give away too much of the plot as I recommend you see it for yourselves, but I will say it contains a Kombi van load of sex, lies, drugs and alcohol. Definitely a must to show the kids as a warning before they set off for the other side of the world, and one for granny to see too if she's feeling nostalgic about her youth. Enjoy!
Peak Experience (2003)
Interesting Characters, shame about the story
Peak Experience brings together some quirky and intriguing characters for a ride of their lives. They are diverse and attractive, and even balanced and likeable. The setting is gorgeous and production values are relatively high. The let down is the bizzare sci-fi twist to the story that really de-rails any hope of a satisfactory resolution to the conflict between the characters. This element to the story is entirely unnecessary and ugly. A real shame as the film would otherwise have real appeal and market-ability.
