Quantum Leap (2022)
Diet Quantum Leap - same premise, but no heart
I watched the first two episodes (the second one only because Beth Calavicci was in it) and to say I'm underwhelmed by it is an understatement and I think I understand why Scott Bakula doesn't want anything to do with it.
They removed everything about the original series from it to make it into a series without substance. They barely give you any reason to care about Ben & no reason to care about the people he's helping. The original series did that. You grew to care about the people that Sam was helping in the episode & not just Sam himself. Instead they decided that they needed to make it into a flat action adventure series. There's also way too much split focus, going between Ben trying to help people back to the project isn't needed. This is a case where telling the viewers that the team was working on trying to fix the problems with Ziggy & figuring out a way to get Sam back was better than showing us what they're doing in the present to get Ben back. What is the point of making the team suspicious of Ben & his motivations? Why did they think they needed a mystery about Al's daughter?
If you want a good time traveling TV series with good storytelling, watch the original. If you want a forgettable action adventure series with an element of time travel watch this I guess.
Terminator: Dark Fate (2019)
Finally a true sequel to Terminator 2
From what I can see in many of the reviews here and videos and in comments on YouTube that many of the "fanboys" incorrectly believe that Terminator is about John Connor. It's not. It's never been about John, but the "mother of the future," as Sarah referred to herself in the first Terminator movie. Of course Rise of the Machines didn't help with that assumption, because apparently the people who made that movie also thought it was about John, since they decided to kill her off because Linda Hamilton didn't want to reprise her role for it.
How do I know that it was always about Sarah and not John? Well besides James Cameron saying so when Terminator 2 came out, he said it as I mentioned above with Sarah referring to herself as the "mother of the future." She's the woman with knowledge about the future that no one will listen to, not even John (as he said in T2) up until he comes face to face with the T-800 that he sent from the future to protect himself, as well as the T-1000.
So despite what the "fanboys" think, it was not a mistake to kill off John. The mistake was made in killing Sarah after T2, one that was fixed with Dark Fate. Killing her off is like the mistake made in killing off Ripley in Aliens 3 and saying that Lorie Strode was dead after the original Halloween 2 and killing her off again after H2O. All three are trying to warn people of the danger approaching that nobody takes seriously, until it's too late, while also preparing themselves for dealing with it because they know.
One of the issues I had with the movie is that John isn't the right age when the T-800 kills him. John was supposed to be around 10 in T2 and it's seven years later, but he looks 13 when he should be 17. But I guess that's because of the trouble that Edward Furlong was already in at that age in real life, so they went with how he looked in T2. Another is the feeble attempt at humor with "Carl" talking about drapes. And what was with the Rev-9 terminator trying to recruit the T-800 in the middle of the fight? I mean I can see why the Rev-9 would think that they should be working together, but trying to discuss why that is as it and the T-800 were fighting instead of doing as the T-1000 did and just trying to at least incapacitate it to keep it from interfering with its mission.
The Devil Wears Prada (2006)
Too many obnoxious characters
Only made it through about 30 minutes because I couldn't stand any of the characters except for Andy and her friends. Hard to say which character was worst, but since I saw & heard more of her than any of the others working at the fake magazine, I'd say it was Emily.
Hawkeye (2021)
Solid start for Kate Bishop's Hawkeye
Going over some of the reviews it's clear that a lot of them don't know that Kate Bishop *is* Hawkeye in the comics. So it's not surprising that the series is centered more around her than Clint, having her take up the mantel for in future MCU projects. I really enjoyed the series, and a lot of that is due to Hailey Steinfeld. Jeremy is great though as Clint, still grieving over Natasha's sacrifice in Endgame as well as dealing with the memories of his time as Ronin. It's not really surprising that because of both Nat's death and having been Ronin that he's ready to retire to be with his family, especially since he lost them for five years due to the snap (still can't get used to it being referred to as a "blip" as they have in every series since WandaVision) and since Natasha, Tony, and Steve are gone. I wouldn't be surprised if he returns, even if it's only briefly.
Yelena and Kate have a great rapport with each other, so I hope to see them team up in the future. Alaqua Cox is also good as Maya/Echo, so the three of them as a team would be fun.
