Le fate ignoranti (2022)
Rarely does a "show" have it all. Le Fate Ignoranti does!
I just finished watching this. I have watched several of Oztepek's films and love his work (bias?) This is no exception.
The celebration of life (even in death) and the true connections and bonds between people are so beautifully painted that I cried and laughed many times during every episode.
A cast of several queer and "non-conforming" (for lack of a better word) people are beautifully portrayed and their challenges in life are dealt with love and a deep understanding for the challenges we meet out there. Strength comes from unusual places and is in no way contradictory to vulnerability. The lipstick scene is priceless.
Then there's the language (watch the original with subtitles), all the Italian dialects, the Turkish (which is beautiful but I don't understand it), the cinematography, the attention to details, great acting, and yes, Ozpetek's amazing direction.
I truly enjoyed having more than the movie-time to get to know the various fates of these characters. Amazing show.
San Andreas Mega Quake (2019)
This is so bad it's not even funny
There's something to be said for Syfy genre movies with their bad CGI, simplistic scripts and acting straight out of high school. At least the plot is fun and unusual. But this? Plot holes bigger than the state of California, CGI so bad it's painful and a storyline so bad it defies all common sense or logic. Painfully bad.
Absolutely nothing makes sense: why would a chapter land during an ongoing earthquake rather than waiting a minute? Why would people be tossed out of a chopter if the cabin crashed in one piece? How would people be able to lift a heavy piece of equipment out of a helicopter if they can barely push it along the ground? To just name a precious few crazy notions.
The Mysterious Note (2019)
This should be accompanied by a warning label
Decided to watch this with our son. Regretted the decision after ten minutes (as the grown-up) given the horrific acting. Worse than a c-reel.
It goes rapidly downhill from here. This is an evangelical indoctrination movie, nothing else. And unless you belong to one of those churches that are all talk the talk (and take your money), stay clear!
DNF!!!
