The Nurse (1997)
Must have ONLY for Pierre David film buffs
Canadian Producer Pierre David has a one track mind. His scripts generally do too. It is as follows...
Female is hurt by someone. Female swears revenge by befriending/marrying/seducing/working for the person who she feels slighted by, and then killing them. Anyone who begins to suspect her alternate identity of intent of malice is eliminated as soon as she knows they are on to her. Children are never killed, but often save the day at the end. Generally the Villainous female is killed in the attempt for "Final Justice", meaning the death of the one she got closest to.
This is the same for at least 100 Pierre David Films, with a few variations here and there, but if you're a huge fan of "Psycho Chick" films ALA "The Hand That Rocks The Cradle" or "Fatal Attraction"... This is for you.
If not... You'll likely laugh, complain, or just turn it off.
Night of the Comet (1984)
Chakotay, Kayla Brady#1, and Kelli Maroney save the world from zombies!!!
Hey, you can complain about it all you want folks, but this is classic 80s!!! Those of you who feel nostalgic when you hear synth music, see super fluffy layered hair with LOTS of Aqua net, and skintight SV's or Jordache, this is for you.
Robert Beltran is our Ponchlike hero, we who are Trekkers have come to know him as Chakotay from ST: Voyager, but some of you 80s buffs might remember him as "RAOUL" from a little picture from around the same year called "Eating Raoul" with the great Mary Waronov, who is also briefly in this movie as a mad scientist/zombie gone good with a conscience. Her part I wish had been larger, and that her interaction with Beltran had been more detailed... they are great on screen together, and she fits right in with this 80s camp.
Catherine Mary Stewart who used to be Kayla Brady on Days of our Lives shines as the tough chick, while cute Kelly Maroney of Ryan's Hope is her naive cheerleader sister. Sorry if some of you think it is awful, but if you grew up during the time this film was made, I believe you will really enjoy it. The music is really nostalgic... there's one slow song that is really reminiscent of the Frank Stallone days when he was on top with "Staying Alive"... Anyone remember "Moody Girl"? This song will remind you of that, and this movie will make you long for days before the world lost all it's creativity and started copying everything great from that time.
Enjoy, Children of the 80s, this one's for you.
PS... Had to edit this upon just watching it again... How funny and predictive is it that Kelly says "Beam me up Scotty"... As The future Chakotay is listening!" :)
New York Minute (2004)
Amanda and Alyssa Aged about 10 years
These characters are basically the same girls as in It Takes Two, just with different names and parents. But the fan of that movie can easily see how the personalities are as identical as the twins faces.
Picture naughty Amanda as wild Roxy, and Prissy Alyssa as neurotic, anal retentive Jane. Have them grow apart during teen years due to clashing personalities and the send them into Manhattan on a wild teen adventure being chased by Eugene Levy, and you have the picture.
Curious, I check the twin's bios to see which played which in both films...
Ashley played Alyssa Calloway, the priss, and also plays Jane here...
M.K. played both Amanda and Roxie...
So I guess probably in real life the girls are the same, with Ashley the proper one, and MK wild... Makes sense with all the anorexia and other stuff...
Well the movie was OK, but I prefer the girls first plot involving these girl characters.
Anger Management (2003)
You kind of have to be a New Yorker to love this movie...
This movie starts out kind of weird and boring to some extent, and the humor is indeed juvenile. But if you can hang in through all the meaningless drivel, the ending's worth it, if you like Rudy Guliani and the Yankees.
Otherwise, it's just another average Sandler comedy like Billy Madison, Happy Gilmore, or Punch Drunk, nowhere near as good as Wedding Singer or Big Daddy.
Jack is interesting, but when grading him on recent works, I would say rent "Something's Gotta Give", instead of this one... That was a great flick that showed his better abilities.
All in all, only rent or watch this if you are from NY, cause the final scenes are the only saving grace.
