How to turn an awesome novel into an awful movie
8 June 2015
7.2 rating points for this ghastly movie? I wonder if those people who gave this s**tty movie a high rating (everything more than 3 is ludicrous) have read the awesome novel by Robert Heinlein that was "used" to make this film. The novel is great,it caused controversy when it was published and is one of the Classics of Science Fiction. The film is so loosely based on the novel that it should have had a different title. The actors are bad, really bad, and the general look of the motion picture is fake, polished, sanitised. To those who gave a rating higher than 3: make yourself a favour, read the novel then go back to change your rating.

A wonderful movie
29 December 2013
I don't need to tell anything about the plot (of which you can read here on IMDb). But what I really want to say is that this movie is a great one: full of poetry, witty moments, fantastic landscapes, a nice soundtrack and an excellent Ben Stiller (and Sean Penn is always good). It is one of those movies that gives you something that will remain once you leave the cinema. The message is 'live with intensity, without being always scared, expecting things will fix themselves'. A very simple meaning, I know, but in this movie it was rendered very well without being cheesy or trying too hard. To me one of the best movies of 2013, no doubts about this.

a masterpiece
13 February 2013
It is always tricky and very hard to turn a (great) novel into a movie with good results. So many times the result is quite bad. But in this case this rendition of Carlo Collodi's wonderful novel (read it! And have your kids read it!) by one of the greatest Italian directors will leave you totally delighted and moved. The actors are superb and the atmosphere is absolutely perfect. Andrea Balestri (Pinocchio) is... well... THE perfect Pinocchio. Geppetto (the great Manfredi) is unforgettable, and so Lollobrigida, and so Franco Franchi e Ciccio Ingrassia and... well, try and find a copy: every effort you will make is worth, trust me. I have to say that Disney's version (after all a cartoon. A great one, but a cartoon) disappears if compared to Comencini's Pinocchio. I watched Comencini's Pinocchio when I was a kid and many times since then (I am Italian so I have had more opportunities to watch it) and I do think that this version is a masterpiece.
