Gisaengchung (2019)
A marvellous film (albeit 20% of reviewers don't 'get it').
Not everyone will understand the subtle ironies and dark humour written into the script. This is a slowly evolving, funny and engaging film for those who have the ability to let the magic unfold without any expectations or needing an explanation for everything. Storyline and characterization are all that's needed for any film to work at a basic level and there is so much originality and depth here to keep the viewer engaged throughout the duration. Many, many contemporary films follow established formulae whereas this one stands alone. For anyone after repetitive, safe, bland, boring and brain-numbing, CGI-laced 'entertainment' I'd recommend trying something other than this work of admirable quality which is well-filmed and acted throughout.
Beatriz at Dinner (2017)
Thought-provoking
A well-written and poignant reflection on the modern world and all that's bad about it. This short (by usual standards) film says more in it's entirety than the majority of film makers will say in a whole career. A modest but accomplished achievement. Well done to all involved - more like this please!! It is art, not simply entertainment and what good film making is all about.
Concrete Plans (2020)
A fair original effort
Well written and acted, good characterisation and unusual plot with a few twists and turns to keep it interesting. Some flaws but overall not bad and worth a look if you want something different for a change rather than remakes, rip-offs or repeated formulae.
